Unlike the fashions of the Twenties post war Fifties clothing is a curious mixtures of glamour and austere conservatism. In these years women were at last able to afford clothing

rather than making do what they had in their wardrobe during the war years.

Even then they were wearing trousers and dresses such as the very fashionable Dress With White Collar And Cuffs which gave

them an aura of freshness and naturalness which was sadly lacking between the Thirties and Fifties.

The fashion denotes wide skirts and narrow waists which were ideal to show off an hour glass figure. It is for this reason that vintage fashion has made somewhat of a comeback. Women are trying to recreate this ultra-feminine look.

It is not surprising that vintage clothing and replicas of them are now widely available either online or in specialist shops.

The post war style was first created just before 1950 by a prominent fashion house in Paris. Unlike the drab colours of the decade before, clothing became more vibrant in colour. If you should find some authentic clothing of that era you will find that garments were made to last and had a real feel of quality about them.

Later in the Sixties when the Mods and Rockers groups were formed the fashion became really popular. The groups did not want to fit the norm and rebelled against what normality was at that time.

If you are going to buy into this fashion you need to know what accessories need to be worn with a Dress With White Collar And Cuffs to look as authentic as possible.

Gloves and hat were always worn if a woman went outside to go shopping or just to take a walk in the park. If they were wearing a short sleeved dress then long gloves were worn, but with a suit short ones would do. Long gloves were worn with formal wear and in the winter months only.

We have all seen Dame Edna on television. If you noticed her glasses then you will know what women in the Fifties wore. Jewellery such as worn by the hippies of the Sixties was not in fashion then. Instead understated pieces such as pearls whether faux or real were worn. The fashion was not noted for high heels. These were only worn at formal occasions. The emphasis was on comfort. Around the home tennis shoes were worn. There are now more flattering styles available in this style and they would not look out of place on your feet.
