1 FebruaryThe members of the Greek Drama Club accompanied by their teacher Mrs Stella Koutsoyianni, travel to Thessaloniki where they watch Iacovos Kambanelis’ play ‘Το Μεγάλο μας Τσίρκο’ performed by the Νational Theatre of Northern Greece (Κρατικό Θέατρο Βορείου Ελλάδας).

2 FebruaryCross country race in memory of Stelios Hadjipetris, organised by the Stelios Hadjipetris Foundation, Achilleas Agrou and the Pericles Demetriou Runners Society.

5 FebruaryThe Careers Department welcomes Mr George Moisi, who gives a presentation on studies in Germany. The presentation is open to all students and parents.

5 FebruaryThe Form 4 Economics classes visit the Cyprus Stock Exchange.

5 FebruaryMembers of the Art & Design Club participate in a three hour print workshop run by Illustrators Ioanna and Simone Philippou. During the workshop the students familiarize themselves with the techniques and nature of illustration as well as printmaking in general.

5 FebruaryThe Current Affairs Club organises the presentation and discussion ‘Volunteer Work: The Indian Experience’. Speakers: From 7 students Andrea Spanou and Yiannis Hannadjias.

5 FebruaryGeography students of Forms 3-5 pay a visit to the Cyprus Seismological Centre.

6 FebruaryThe Cambridge Board of Examinations announces that the following GCS students have been awarded the Outstanding Cambridge Learners Award for the May/June 2012 examination series: Olivia Ioannou for having achieved the highest mark in Cyprus for AS Art and Design and George Kypridemos for having achieved the highest mark in Cyprus for AS Literature in English.

6 February6th formers Irene Efthymiou and Theodoros Stylianou who participated in the “The World Youth Want” conference in Armenia last September, put “The World Youth Want” into the Cyprus context. Together with students from other private schools in Nicosia, they conduct a “The Cyprus Youth Want” activity to ensure the voice of youth is heard during the election campaign, and beyond. The activity requires conducting a survey with the participation of over 670 children and youth ranging from 12 to 21 years old, in order to analyse the results and produce “The Cyprus Youth Want Declaration” that calls upon decision makers to address the issues and concerns specifically identified by youth. 6 FebruaryThe Careers Department arranges for a presentation on Psychology by Dr Charalambos Tziogouros, Clinical Psychologist and the Director of the Centre for training, Research and Therapy associated to the University of Nicosia.

7 FebruaryRepresentatives of the UK’s four leading Universities (Imperial, LSE, UCL and King’s) visit the GCS as part of the World Class Study Tour and give a presentation to Form 6 girls and Form 7 boys.

7 FebruaryThe Careers Department delivers a UCAS presentation to parents of Forms 6 and 7.

7 FebruaryThe Scuba Diving Club organises a seminar on Underwater Archaeology by Dr. Katerina Mavromichalou.

8-10 FebruaryWith a delegation of 12 students, the Debate Club represents the School in the 8th Mediterranean Model United Nations Session as representatives of The Netherlands, Myanmar and Colombia. Participants: Form 5: Chloe Americanos, Katerina Athienitis, Christos Demian, Theodoros Stylianou, Orestis Collins. Form 6: Simos Schizas, Savvas Miltiadous, Andreas Malekos, Stylianos Vrikkis, Angelos Vanezis. Form 7: Nicole Hadjisofocli, Katherine Mavrommati, Antonis Andronicou.

8 FebruaryAndreas Andreou, George Nicolaou and Andreas Papavassiliou represent the School in the Pancyprian Badminton Games. George Nicolaou of Form 6 wins the Silver Medal.

12 FebruaryThe School arranges for a lecture on online dangers and cyber bullying, for the students of Form 1.

12 FebruaryThe members of the Science Club carry out experiments of Chemiluminescence.

13 FebruaryThe Careers Department organises a presentation by Associates from PwC, on the career prospects of the accounting profession and the professional qualifications (ACA and ACCA) PwC offers.

14 FebruaryValentine’s Day at GCS. All proceeds are donated to charity.

15 FebruaryStarry Night 2013: a magnificent show organised by the students of Form 7. Fifteen entries along with the School Dance Club, the Music Club and the Elementary School Gymnastics Club, give an amazing performance before an audience of about 1,300 people.

16 FebruaryMaths Club visit to the Da Vinci Machines Exhibition at the Evagoras Lanitis Centre in Limassol. The visit includes the showing of a documentary on the life of Leonardo Da Vinci, a guided tour of high quality reproduction artworks including some of Da Vinci’s most famous pieces such as the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, and a presentation of over sixty of his drawings including war machines, flying machines and nautical and hydraulic machines.

19 FebruaryThe Careers Department delivers a workshop which covers topics such as Time Management, Organisation Skills, Note- taking and Study Skills. During the workshop, Dr Emilios Solomou, Executive Vice President of the University of Nicosia, gives a presentation on the above topics and offers advice and guidance. The workshop is open to students and parents of Forms 3 and 4.

19 FebruaryThe Current Affairs Club organises a talk and presentation on the discovery of natural gas in Cyprus. Guest Speaker: Ms Marianna Charalambous, International Lawyer Specializing in Energy and Oil.

19-20 FebruaryThe following students excel in the Pancyprian Swimming Competition organised by the Ministry of Education & Culture: Takkou Tereza Gold Medal, Savvides Alexandros Silver Medal, Ambiza Anastasia Silver Medal, Takkos George Bronze Medal, Leonidou Panayiotis Bronze Medal.

20 FebruaryThe School Management congratulates the winners of the 40 Year Anniversary Quiz Competition. Lower School winners: Loizou Anastasia, Argyrou Christiana, Nikolettou Markella. Upper School winners: Christofi Alexia, Kaouros Constantinos, Socratous Christina, Torna Michaella.

20 FebruaryThe Debate Club directors announce the names of the students who will represent the School in the EYP pre-selection session 2013: Chloe Americanos, Katerina Athienitis, Orestis Collins, Christos Demian, Nick Papanastassiou, Theodoros Stylianou.

21 FebruaryThe members of the Adventure Club spend the afternoon Go-karting at Daytona Centre.

25 FebruaryMrs Elena Andreou from the Careers Department attends a presentation on “Studying in Finland,” held at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

26 FebruaryThe Careers Department organises a workshop for Forms 5 and 6 on Interview skills, Communication skills and Adjustment/Adaptability to University Life, by Dr Emilios Solomou.

26 FebruaryThe Science Club arranges for a lecture entitled ‘Haematopoietic Stem Cell Banking’ by Mr Zacharias Kallis, Senior Laboratory Manager; Lifeline Cellular Therapy Products Laboratory and Scientific Manager, Lifeline Cord Blood and Tissue bank.

27 FebruaryThe students of Forms 1, 2 and 3 complete a 15 minute questionnaire on bullying approved and sponsored by the University of Nicosia.
