This 60-minute nonstop burst of energy andfun features Tony Award®-winning show-stopping songs and dances.

Patel Conservatory students in grade fivethrough college participating in this musicalrevue summer intensive will be taught bysome of the industry’s most talented andknowledgeable teachers. Adam Wagner willadapt, direct and choreograph.

Quentin Darrington, star of Broadway’sMemphis: A New Musical and Ragtime, willcoach students enrolled in Showstoppers: AMusical Revue, as well as other theater camps and intensives this summer, including Little Shop of Horrors, The LittleMermaid Jr. and The Tempest. Patel ConservatoryTheater to Present Little Shop of Horrors

Patel Conservatory Theater will present Little Shop of Horrorsat the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts’ TECOTheater July 18-20.

Students in grade nine through college in the PatelConservatory’s summer theater intensive will present this cultclassic about a down and out skid row floral assistant,Seymour, who becomes an overnight sensation when hediscovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for freshblood. Soon the plant, Audrey II, grows into an ill-tempered,foul-mouthed R&B-singing carnivore who offers Seymourfame and fortune for feeding its growing appetite.

Audrey II finally reveals itself to be an alien creature poisedfor global domination. This memorable musical, written byHoward Ashman with music by Alan Menken, is chock full ofgreat hits like “Skid Row,” “Grow for Me,” “Dentist!” and“Suddenly Seymour.”

The critically-acclaimed 1982 off-Broadway productionwon several awards including the New York Drama CriticsCircle Award for Best Musical, the Drama Desk Award forOutstanding Musical and the Outer Critics Circle Award. Whenthe show closed in 1987, it was the third longest-running andhighest-grossing musical in off-Broadway history. The 1986film adaptation starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martinincreased the show’s popularity.

Little Shop of Horrors is choreographed by Michelle Elkin,the Los Angeles-based choreographer who has choreographedfor many films and television shows, including the currentABC hit Baby Daddy. A few of her other credits includeMarvin, Marvin on Nickelodeon and Boston Legal. She alsoserved recently as assistant choreographer to MargueriteDerricks on the ABC Family show Bunheads and as Derricks’associate choreographer for the Broadway show, Wonderland,that originated at the Straz Center. Historic Preservation ChallengeGrant Application Deadline Set for July 31

The deadline for applications for Hillsborough County’s HistoricPreservation Challenge Grant Program is Wednesday, July 31 at 3p.m. The grant program promotes historic preservation, heritagetourism, and related economic development within HillsboroughCounty for both incorporated and unincorporated areas.

Available grant funds will be awarded to selected applicants on aminimum of one-to-one (1:1) matching basis, not to exceed an awardof more than $250,000 per applicant, per project in any County budgetyear. The grant is distributed on a reimbursement basis.

Tampa Bay Senior Games NeedsSponsorships for October Games

Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department is seeking sponsorships from localbusinesses for the 2013 Annual Tampa Bay Senior Games. This 2-week long event will be held October 7 - October18. Sponsorship will help cover the cost for advertisement, bags, t-shirts, food, use of facilities, and other event-related expenses.

As a sponsor, organizations will get their names and/or logos featured in publications, t-shirts and other printedmaterial; they will be allowed to place banners at certain event locations; and can place a display, and hand ourinformation during the opening ceremony and at certain events. The official sponsorship request form can be viewedonline.

The Tampa Bay Senior Games is open to anyone age 50 or older. Emergency Electric Bill Payment AssistanceNow Available for Seniors in Need

Hillsborough County’s Family and Aging Services Department is accepting applications for its federally-fundedEmergency Home Energy Assistance Program (EHEAP). EHEAP assists low-income households who have at leastone member who is 60 or older, and an energy emergency resulting from a past due utility bill, or receiving a shut-off notice.

Households may qualify if they meet the following criteria:• Have a total household gross income below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines;• Have at least one member who is 60 years or older;• Reside in Hillsborough County;• Be a U.S. Citizen, qualified alien or permanent resident of the U.S.; and • Have a recent past due or final notice energy bill.

Additional requirements may be necessary for eligibility determination. Applicants will be informed of theserequirements at the time of application.

How to apply:• Applications are accepted at local Neighborhood Service Centers;• Proof of income for all household members for the last 30 days. Proof of income can be a pay check stub,

employer letter, public assistance check, supplementary security income check, unemployment check or apension check stub;

• Proof of home energy obligation or electric bill;• Social Security Number verification for all household members;• Picture identification for all adults in the household; • Identification for all other household members; and• Proof of Hillsborough County residency, such as: valid driver’s license with current address, a letter from your

landlord or mortgage company, voter’s registration card, etc.

Hillsborough County Seeks Members for Economic Development InnovationInitiative Advisory Committee

The Economic Development Innovation Initiative (EDI2) of HillsboroughCounty is seeking individuals to serve on the EDI2 Advisory Committee. EDI2 isa comprehensive program to drive the growth of technology and innovation start-ups and small businesses. The Advisory Committee will review applications forevents and program support for activities that enhance the entrepreneurial,innovation and technological ecosystem. The Advisory Committee also providesinput and makes recommendations to County staff.

Interested parties must live in Hillsborough County. Individuals with abackground or expertise in technology, entrepreneurship and innovation, such asthe examples below are being sought.

• Professionals with experience in the area of banking, venture capital or angelinvesting

• Representatives of technology companies and/or innovation entrepreneurs

• Attorneys with experience in intellectual property, start-up formation and/orworking with technology companies

• Representatives from a university-based entrepreneurship and/or Incubator program

Tampa Bay Regional Water Supply and Drought Update(June 20, 2013 Report)

Tampa Bay Water has transitioned from a Phase 4 to a Phase 3 water shortagestatus because the Surface Water Treatment Plant has started providing water tothe regional water supply system. The Phase 3 status is designated under theagency’s modified Water Shortage Mitigation Plan.

Early June rainfall has increased flows in the Alafia River and Tampa BypassCanal above permitted threshold limits to provide steady water to the RegionalSurface Water Treatment Plant. As surface water sources provide more of theregional drinking water supply, the Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination plant hasbeen shut down and will remain offline for at least the rest of the summer.

The function of the agency’s Water Shortage Plan is to identify when changesin water supply conditions and/or rain patterns occur. Tampa Bay Water expectsconditions to continue to improve throughout the summer, which could rapidlymove Tampa Bay Water’s drought phase to a Phase 1 drought alert. The regionalreservoir remains offline while its interior liner is reconstructed until late summer2014. Without this source of supply, Tampa Bay Water’s drought phases are highlydependent on river flow and can change often on short notice.

Regional watering restrictions are set by the Southwest Florida WaterManagement District and remain in a Phase 3 shortage until July 31, 2013. Forinformation on water restrictions and to find out residential watering days, pleasevisit tampabaywater.org/WaterSmarter.

Regional water facts in May 2013:• Rainfall totals in May averaged about 2.95 inches, which is near normal.

Heaviest rainfall occurred from northwest to central Hillsborough Countywith amounts generally between 2.5 and 3.5 inches of rain. Western andcentral Pasco County received less than 1 inch.

• Hillsborough River flow was 69.92 percent of the mean monthly flow forMay, while the Alafia River flow was 62.54 percent of normal.

• May temperatures were slightly below normal.• Regional water supply demands averaged about 242 million gallons per day,

about 15 mgd less than May 2012 demand.Rainfall totals are above normal on a 12-month running average, partially due

to recent June rains and Tropical Storm Andrea, which also helped reduce regionalwater demand due to lack of outdoor watering.

Tampa Bay Water remains well below its permitted groundwater pumpinglimits. Tampa Bay Water provides wholesale water to the public utility systems ofHillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties, as well as the cities of New PortRichey, St. Petersburg and Tampa.
