Bulletin for January 2017
January, 2017
Dear Parish Family, As we begin 2017 we do so with hearts of gratitude. A special thank you to God for the blessing of our two new deacons, Hugo and Joe. At the beginning of this year we opened our new Youth Center and we are in the middle of construction at our Parish School for the Cynthia M. Meek Enrichment Center. We are grateful to Judy Jacobs for her 17 years of faithful service and ad-ministration of our parish. At the same time we welcome Rosie Etcheverry Cook as my new Adminis-trative Assistant. Rosie comes to us with 5 years’ experience as an Execu-tive Assistant with Grimmway Farms. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge in working with boards, schools, foundations, and managing special projects. She is also a member of the Etcheverry family, long time members of our Parish Church and School. I’ve watched Rosie grow up and am excited about the new role she is taking with us. On behalf of our Priests, Deacons and Religious of St. Francis, we wish all of you a very Happy Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

Serving Christ by Helping People In Need
Did you know that on any given Monday night at St. Francis, not just during the holidays, you can find hundreds of homeless
individuals and needy families finding comfort and warmth with-
in the walls of our Parish Hall? This year alone, thousands of men, women, and children have come to our Parish for the first
time to receive a warm nutritious dinner provided by our St. Therese Little Flower Society and most of these people come
back on a weekly basis. Why you might ask? Because this is a place where they can belong, a place where all are welcome and
our goal is to embrace all in need by lending a helping hand
when times are tough and we couldn’t serve them without your help.
When you serve in ministry, you are caring for the body of Christ. Jesus taught us how to treat others and how to create a
just world. These teachings remind us to respect all life, to place the needs of the poor and vulnerable first, to embrace family and
community, and to stand in solidarity with others to care for all
creation.
Respond to God’s call to end both physical and spiritual hunger. There are a number of ways you can serve with us year round.
To get involved with the Monday Night Dinner ministry call the
Parish Office at 661-327-4734 to leave a message for the St. Therese Little Flower Ministry.

January 11-National
Human Trafficking Awareness Day
Human trafficking is “modern day slavery”
because it uses force, fraud or coercion to
make people do things thy don’t want to do.
Women, children and men are all affected by
this crime. They are enslaved throughout the
world through forced labor and/or commer-
cial sex. Many times they are right in our own
communities. If you are aware of a situation in
which someone is being forced to work
against their will for the benefit of others,
please call the U.S. Department of Justice Hu-
man Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-428-7581 or re-
port your concerns to the National Human Traf-
ficking Resource Center’s 24/7
Hotline at 1888-3737-888
Tickets are available on the school website http://stfran.org/sfs or we’ll be selling tickets at the
church following mass the weekend of Jan. 21-22
Our Catholic faith is the largest Christian family in the world, yet one in three baptized Catholics no
longer worship with us on a regular basis.
We want to walk with you as you discover, rediscover, or continue to find Christ in your life. In fact, if you are a new parishioner or thinking about
becoming a parishioner at St. Francis, we have a team of people eager to introduce themselves and get
to know you.
