The Pastor's Reflections

Ordained In July we ordained and installed Ruling Elders and Deacons who willeither be starting their three-year terms of service or else filling a vacancyon our church's Session or Board of Deacons. Deacons and Ruling Elders, along with Ministers, are all ordained toservice in what is called the "ordered ministries" of the PresbyterianChurch (USA). It is our belief that each one is called by God to serve inone of these three ordered ministries, and the church ordains them toservice. Deacons and Ruling Elders are elected by the congregation forservice. They (and Ministers) are ordained "for life;" they are Deaconsor Ruling Elders or Ministers as long as they are part of the PresbyterianChurch (USA), even to the point when they join the "church triumphant"at the end of this life. When Deacons and Ruling Elders are called andelected by the congregation to serve additional terms, they are installed

into those ordered ministries. When these saints are ordained they answer nine questions specified inthe constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA), dealing withobedience to Christ and to Scripture and to our confessions, amongother things. Three of those ordination questions have always been myfavorites:

Will you in your own life seek to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, loveyour neighbors, and work for the reconciliation of the world?Do you promise to further the peace, unity, and purity of thechurch? Will you pray for and seek to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love?

If those of us ordained to service can live these three vows (along withthe others), we will assuredly be faithful and effective servants of Godand the congregation. It is good for us, those ordained and those whoare not, to review those questions from time to time. They are goodones. Peace and joy,Pastor John

August 2019

I want to take a moment to express some deeply felt gratitude. I'd like togive a big thank you to Westminster Presbyterian Church for thewonderful Cents-Ability donation....it is a huge boost to this ministry. I'dalso like to thank an anonymous donor (you know who you are) for yourunexpected generous gift, it was an amazing thing for you to do. It isyour generosity, as well as the ongoing monthly support from membersof both Westminster Presbyterian Church, and First Presbyterian ofRoswell, that keep the ministry going. As a result, many lives are beingtouched and many families are being helped in their financial crisis. It is aprivilege to serve in a ministry surrounded by so many wonderful saints. May God richly bless each of you individually for your kindness! T H AN K Y O U!
