The Fourth Biennial CUNY Faculty Diversity and Inclusion Conference

A Resounding Success!

CUNY faculty, staff and students were treated to a comprehensive array of sessions on emerging scholarship and proven pedagogies that demonstrate how effective diversity and inclusion practices can positively impact campus climates and improve student outcomes. This was the biggest conference ever with 27 concurrent sessions throughout the day and 18 poster sessions at the closing reception. The daylong conference featured nationally-recognized scholars, President Freeman Hrabowski of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Dean Michael Benitez of the University Puget Sound.

President Freeman Hrabowski, Ph.D., with CUNY Presidents & Deans

Each keynote speaker focused on the role of collective responsibility in the academy and how all members of the workforce play a part in student success. CUNY benefits when people collaborate by offering a range of perspectives – using the tools of academic freedom grounded in shared governance and engaged dialogue, CUNY is a driver of social mobility. By breaking down silos and building bridges, we have the capacity to realize the dream of engaged campus communities for students, faculty and staff throughout the University.

Dean Michael Benitez, Ph.D

An initiative of the Chancellor’s Diversity Action Plan, the CUNY Faculty Diversity and Inclusion Conference was organized by a University-wide Faculty Conference Planning Committee, with additional oversight provided the University Advisory Council on

Diversity (UACD).
