Assessment Record for determining Year 13 Teacher Assessed Grades in Summer 2021 St Edward’s College

Assessment Evidence Form

The following forms detail the assessments used for the subject cohort (i.e. assessment resource, mock examination, controlled assessment,

homework etc.). The Assessment Evidence Form includes the sources of the assessment evidence being used, the level of control under

which assessments were completed (i.e. exam-type conditions would provide a high degree of control), and any other evidence that

explains the determination of the final teacher assessed grades.

Note: Ideally, the evidence used will be consistent across the class or cohort but that may not always be the case if a student has missed

some teaching, or one or more assessments, for valid reasons. Any necessary variations for individual students have been recorded on our

internal versions of these documents but are not being shared with students and parents for obvious reasons around the privacy of individual

candidates.

The following forms indicate which assessment objectives were covered in each piece of assessment evidence (Y/N), and whether the

assessment was conducted with a High (H), Medium (M) or Limited (L) level of control.

Evidence base

We will give greatest weight to marks from mock examinations conducted under controlled conditions at school (exam conditions): Y11

mocks (two exams before the Easter holiday and the rest immediately afterwards) and Y13 mocks (in the fortnight commencing 26

April). This means that grades achieved under these controlled conditions will be the most significant evidence used. However, we will

use a variety of evidence to inform final grade decisions and work and assessments completed up to May half term may be taken into

account when calculating the final grade.

Across all courses in Year 13 the same order of priority was used when considering evidence of pupils’ achievement. See below. This

reflects Ofqual’s guidance that, “More recent evidence is likely to be more representative of student performance” and that, “centres

should be confident that work produced is the student’s own and that the student has not been given inappropriate levels of support”.

1) a) Mock result (from current mock session); b) NEA (coursework) including ‘performance’ in Music/PE (contribution to grade should mirror usual %)

2) Previous mock results 3) Assessments completed in class under teacher supervision (e.g. timed essays, class tests, etc.) 4) Assessments completed outside of class (online, past papers, essays, etc.), where evidence from 1-3 is not available 5) Substantial pieces of homework/classwork, where evidence from 1-4 is not available

All assessments are based on materials provided by exam boards, including groups of questions, past papers or similar materials such as

practice or sample papers. Any centre-devised tasks will follow the same format as exam board materials. Assessments have been

marked in a way that reflects exam board mark schemes.

Assessment: Component One Portfolio (100% of grade) Composed of Sketchbook and Exhibition of larger work.

NEA: All work produced contributes to Component One and will be assessed holistically according to JCQ grade descriptors and AQA assessment objectives provided. Work comprises a mixture of classwork, homework, teacher led, and independent tasks.

Y Y Y Y Y M/L

If an assessment objective has been omitted at subject cohort level, please briefly outline the reasons why: All assessment objectives have been covered.

As per AQA guidance, pupils will submit evidence for Component 1 only. Work set and content delivered as a part of the Component One Portfolio covers all assessment objectives. All work produced forms part of pupil’s ongoing body of coursework and will be marked holistically to ascertain overall grade. All work produced is NEA and forms 100% of the overall grade. AQA guidance published March 2021 states an overall grade should represent the average level of student performance across the specification, and to identify the grade which best fits the student’s work. A holistic judgement is to be made based on the gathered evidence.

If an assessment objective has been omitted at subject cohort level please briefly outline the reasons why:- Unit 1 principles of applied science was an external assessment due to be sat June 2020 during first national lockdown. We have no evidence for this examination as we did not want to disadvantaged students due to first lockdown so they have not been asked to resit this assessment but instead move onto the second half of the course in year 13.

Independent Research Project

Y Y Y Y Y L

If an assessment objective has been omitted at subject cohort level please briefly outline the reasons why:- All assessment objectives have been covered.

Outline the rationale for the choice of assessment evidence used, i.e. why the evidence above was used and how it supported the grading decision:- Due to the nature of this independent research qualification, the assessment of student projects for the purposes of producing a TAG are in essence exactly the same as in a normal year. All 18 students involved completed the entire project as normal. Their project log book, project essay and project presentation have all been assessed as normal internally, according to the full scheme of assessment. We have also been able to base our grading on published grade boundaries from the November 2019 series, which is when candidates were most recently assessed by AQA for this qualification, following JCQ guidelines.
