The final word from Black Sabbath The Birmingham gig marked the end of an amazing journey for us as a band and thankfully we got to end it where it all started, which was extra special. It’s been eventful to say the least but we wouldn’t change anything. We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved over the years and we’re delighted to have this film to help preserve that final get together. We hope you enjoy it!

A note from director Dick Carruthers

I have loved Black Sabbath ever since I was a teenager in a metal covers band; the music, the legendary stories, the peerless riffs, so to actually work with them, tour with them and make the film of their final performance was my dream assignment.

We all felt the huge pressure and emotion around the last gig and what it represented. The run-up to it provided the perfect frame through which to look back over the band’s incredible journey.

Sabbath mean so much to so many people; they are unique personalities and incredible musicians; capturing their chemistry on and off stage, with all the appropriate urgency and excitement, was an electric experience and a learning curve!

By great fortune, the gig itself, as Ozzy says, turns out to be one of their best ever. With a palpable sense of occasion they play with great gusto and obvious enjoyment, although that isn’t the end of the story.

I think it’s about triumph over adversity, sticking to your guns, never deserting your fans, ultimately the power of music and the curious notion of what it means to call time on the world you’ve created.

When you buy a ticket for a concert you enter into a contract; Black Sabbath have NEVER reneged on that contract in 5 decades. Now you can watch and see why.
