Celebrant We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life. 5

We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

Gianna , you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ's own for ever. Amen A Baptism candle is now presented to the newly Baptized Gianna, receive the light of Christ, a sign of the new life enkindled within you.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon Gianna your servant the forgiveness of sin, and have raised her to the new life of grace. If any one asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this, ‘The Lord has need of it.’” So those who were sent went away and found it as he had told them. And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their garments on the colt they set Jesus upon it. The Lighting of the Paschal Candle

Fire is kindled and the Celebrant addresses the people:

Dear friends in Christ: On this, the Day of the Resurrection, when our Lord Jesus has passed over from death to life, the Church invites her members, dispersed throughout the world, to gather in celebration of the Passover of the Lord, in which we share in his victory over death. Celebrant Let us pray. O God, through your Son you have bestowed upon your people the brightness of your light: Sanctify this new fire, and grant that in this Paschal feast we may so burn with heavenly desires, that with pure minds we may attain to the festival of everlasting light; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Paschal Candle is then lighted from the newly kindled fire.

The Cantor, bearing the Candle, leads the procession to the altar, pausing three times and singing:

Cantor The light of Christ. People Thanks be to God.

After the altar candles are lit from the Paschal Candle, it is placed in its stand and the Exsultet is said.

Rejoice now, heavenly hosts and choirs of angels, and let your trumpets shout Salvation for the victory of our mighty King. Rejoice and sing now, all the round earth, bright with a glorious splendor, for darkness has been vanquished by our eternal King. There are sick who require healing. Peo-ple separated by fear and hate need to be brought together. The deep concern God has for all people needs, desperately, to be made known. Christians, the people of this congregation, are called to do these things. We are to be Christ’s hands and feet in the world. And, for Christ’s work, we must have Christ’s strength. This is received through Holy communion. The Post-communion Prayer is followed, with a blessing and dismissal. We leave the church to resume our service for Him in the world. The story of creation, the tragedy of sin that has be-set us, the history of God’s call to a people to serve him, and finally God’s coming among us in the person of his Incarnate Son, his death and resur-rection, the work of the Holy Spirit in the Church, and the hope of life eter-nal—the meaning of all of this is gathered up in the Great Thanksgiving and stamped on this bread and this wine. To be the Body and Blood of Jesus is to be embodiment of what he has done and what he is, and the living channel of the covenant between God and us. . The Lord’s prayer is a fitting prayer to con-clude the Eucharistic prayer. It is considered the perfect prayer and taught by Jesus. Those who have prepared themselves to receive communion now come to the altar rail. Here, Christ’s life will come into ours. He gives His life to us as we have given ours to Him. Not only, however, do we come into union with our Lord. In Him, we are brought close to each other. Thus it is that the Church is the family of Christ. The food of the Holy Communion is a source of strength and refresh-ment for the Christian. Christ’s followers have constant need of it. They not only need it for themselves but also for the work they are asked to do. The hun-gry need to be fed.

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Celebrant and People: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. The Celebrant continues We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom. STAND Our Lord took bread, and then wine, and gave thanks over them. So in the Chris-tian liturgy, after the bread and wine have been “taken” and placed in the vessels on the altar, the priest faces the congregation and calls upon them to lift up their hearts and give thanks. The peo-ple reply, expressing their agreement. Then the priest, as spokes-man for the congrega-tion, continues with the prayer which both expresses our worship of God and invokes his power to conse-crate the bread and wine, making them, according to Christ’s promise, his blessed Body and Blood. Eucharist means “thanksgiving”. The Eucharist prayer or Great Thanksgiving is the climactic prayer in the liturgy and it has given its name to the entire service, the Holy Eucharist. The words of the Great Thanksgiving summarize all that has gone before in the ser-vice, as it has been expressed in Bible readings, sermon, creed, prayers, and hymns.

A sermon is not just teaching for living a moral life; it is mainly a time when the living Christ Himself encounters His people through His Word bringing to us the full truth and grace of the Gospel. Therefore, as you listen, pray to encounter the life-changing Christ. STAND Priest and People say creed together. Creed comes from the Latin word meaning belief. The creed is the statement of our belief as Christians. STAND The Leader and People pray respon-sively. Prayers of the people are usually led by a layperson. Prayers for others and ourselves are an ancient part of worship. In our pray-ers we remember God, our church, leaders in authority, the sick, and offer thanksgiving for the blessings God gives us.

The Sermon The Rev. William Hinrichs The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. Presentation and Examination of the Candidate

The Bishop says

The Candidate for Confirmation will now be presented. Presenter I present Julia Weaver for Confirmation. The Bishop asks the candidate Bishop Do you reaffirm your renunciation of evil? Candidate I do. Bishop Do you renew your commitment to Jesus Christ? Candidate I do, and with God's grace I will follow him as my Savior and Lord. After all have been presented, the Bishop addresses the congregation, saying Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support Julia in her life in Christ? 2

People We will. The Bishop then says these or similar words Let us join with Julia who is committing herself to Christ and renew our own baptismal covenant.


Bishop Do you believe in God the Father? People I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Bishop Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? People I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. Bishop Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? The service will be preceded by our traditional Carol sing at 6:45 PM. Children are welcome to bring a favorite stuffed animal so that it can be blessed during the blessing of the crèche service.
