A s our new year begins, we have another celebra- tion—the Chinese Lunar New Year. This is honored and celebrated each year on the new moon of the first lunar month. And what a celebration it is! This is a time for cleaning out the old and welcoming in the new. In the days preceding the New Year, houses are thoroughly cleaned of not only physical dirt, but also the poor luck of the past year, to welcome the newly arrived good luck. Of course, all the brooms are put away before New Year’s Day so that the great fortune that is come cannot be swept away. Families will then begin their celebrations with a huge dinner and reunion, many in new clothes and shoes, possi- bly a new haircut, symbolizing a new start. On February 19, 2015, we welcome the year of the wood sheep (goat or ram) and what an exciting year this could be! The sheep is considered an auspicious animal sign in Chinese Astrology—their peaceful nature and kind heart keeps good fortune smiling upon them. This year has much potential for great good. The year of the Yui Weithe 32nd year of the green wood ram (sheep) is seen as one of good fortune and wellbeing, for its hard work ensures prosperity. This year has the potential for innova- tive restruc- turing in education. Care must be taken to ensure that the changes are positive and forward moving. In the world arena, there may be calls for war or other mayhem, but the peaceful nature of the sheep will prevail, putting constraints on negative and violent tendencies. Aggression will not have the ability to change things as it has had in the past. Good old-fashioned common sense and a logical strategy will prevail. This will affect families too—now is an excel- lent time to unite and put old disagreements aside. Forgiveness can bring much healing. There is much potential for advance- ments in technology and space exploration this year. Whatever these new discoveries bring will enhance life and have the power the change how we view both our world and the world beyond. Our perception of the universe and how it all works could take a drastic shift. Overall, 2015 promises great, positive changes.
