PRESIDENT’S NOTES

Hi to all our members Slimmer of the Year is over for another year and I would like to say a big THANK YOU to my

committee and helpers for making it a successful day. I hope everyone enjoyed the event. A special thank you must got to Tony Harding and John Hamilton for all their help and also to all the people who stayed behind and helped with the pack up it was much appreciated. It was lovely to see WENDY CASTAGNA and EUNIC NEWMAN attend as they are long-time members of the Federation and we go back a long way The winner of the 2015 Slimmer of the Year is KERRY GALLOWAY from Maylands who lost a staggering 33kgs in the 12months. She was presented with a sash, trophy and a cheque for $200. Kerry was also presented for the first time with a badge. This is new for this year and can be worn at her club and future functions. Maylands President IRENE SNOW was also presented with a replica of the DAPHNE HUGO TROPHY for her club, as I believe the club should also be recognised as they play a big part in the entrant’s success! We had a tie for 2nd place (which doesn’t happen very often) with COLLEEN WINTER from Cannington (President Jenny Chadwick) and MARIE YOUNG from Forrestfield (President Aileen Addison) who both had an incredible loss of 21kgs. 3rd place was won by CORAL GRIEVES from York (President Alice Stewart) with a tremendous loss of 17kgs.

A full list of all the clubs 2015 Slimmer of the Year entrants is in the centre of this newsletter.

To all metro clubs NOT at the Slimmer of the Year Presentation Day, your medals are at the office for you to call in and pick up. You are welcome to have a cuppa and a chat whilst there. All country club medals will be posted out. For the 2016 Slimmer of the year presentation day, if you have an entrant and they or your President can not attend, could you please send a representative from the club? It is our only big event, so would like to see all the clubs represented. Anyone wishing to give feedback (positive or negative) and/or have ideas on the Slimmer of the Year event, please phone or email us. Your feedback will be much appreciated. For copies of the photos taken on the day, please contact the office. I was also invited to the East Maddington club to give a talk and meet all their members. I had a lovely time and wish to thank the club for their hospitality. Sheila and I were also invited to Moore River Weight Watchers for their 20th Birthday celebration. It was a lovely day and I even won a raffle prize! Jae and committee have a well-run club and it was gratifying to see a club going for all those years with that many members. Shortly, all clubs will be getting the ARS (Affiliation and registration) forms. Please read carefully and return to the office by the due date. The Federation AGM will be held on JULY 26th at the WANDARRA HALL (opposite the federation office). There will be stalls and guest speakers. Sorry for this, Sheila tried her best, making many phone calls. You can use your Free Government Bus Pass or hire your own as we are doing. Any questions please contact the office. Keep well and happy Aileen State President

EAST MADDINGTON WEIGHT WATCHERS

Inspired by a visit from the Federation President Aileen Addison, we decided as a club to post our 1st entry into the Federation News… We must have all listened to Aileen’s tips, or it could have been the visit from the Heart Foundation Dietitian – whatever it was we must have been doing something right. We had one of our best meetings last week Losses……… 17 ½ kilo Gains ………. 4 ½ kilo And 7 people stayed the same Our Queen of the month was one of our longest running members, Vi Stubbs with a 5 ½ kilo loss…. Our Slimmer of the Year entrant Bridget, had a fantastic 16 ½ kg loss and 16 of our members will be there to support her… Our newest member Christine has lost 9 ½ kilos in 8 weeks. We do have some fun, we exercise while we sing our songs and go on day trips. We all attend Weight Watchers for the same reason and that is to lose weight and support each other through our weight loss journey.

QUOTE:

Happy Shrinking

SUNSHINE SLIMMERS CLUB – GERALDTON Congratulations this month to Queen of the Quarter – Marilyn Heberle with a 6.6 kilo loss and Runner up Marilyn Chester with a 4.3 kilo loss. Princess of the Month - Toni Hooper had a 2.6 kilo loss and also Runner up - Marilyn Chester with a 2.4 kilo loss. These ladies all worked very hard the past months to lose their weight. Congratulations to all… It definitely is not easy to lose weight consistently but with exercise and a positive outlook it can be achieve. The main thing is not to fall “off the wagon” and to keep trying. Now that the weather has changed it is possible to walk and exercise daily. Of course swimming is one of the best exercises one can do. Some of our ladies from the club are now into lawn bowls and some are doing quite well at it. But the main thing is not to stop. Everyone needs exercise of some kind; whether it’s weights at a GYM or walking at least fifteen minutes a day. Do try not to eat a heavy meal at night and try not to eat too late at night….as one gets older, we only need a light meal in the evening plus it’s always a good idea not to drink to excess or to drink coffee late at night. Coffee is a stimulant and too many coffees can keep you awake at night-time. We all need a good night’s sleep and to relax. Perhaps try listening to some light music before going to sleep. On the 26th March, Sunshine Slimmers had its AGM meeting. The committee remains the same, so congratulations to all those members who will stay in their positions for the term of 2015/16. The President Marilyn thanked all her committee and everyone else who had taken on a new role for the next year. Sadly, we will be losing one of our “Oldest” members soon. Irma Matsen is moving to Perth. We shall miss Irma, who has taken on most rolls in the club and could always be relied upon at a moment’s notice when we needed her……….we wish her all the best for the future and I shall definitely miss us going for coffee after the meeting each Thursday. Already this year we have had a Valentines Morning Tea, an Easter Morning and now look forward to our Cancer Morning Tea on the 28th May. Until next time Florence

MANDURAH TRIMLINERS

Hello Everyone, Congratulations to Joan Balmer, our entrant in the Slimmer of the Year with a loss of 12.7kg. PRINCESSES - Eunice Du Busson and Neva MacRae each with loss of 2.1kg QUEEN - Lyn Allsop with loss of 3.5kg

On 24th March our club enjoyed a PICNIC IN THE PARK in Halls Head foreshore. The day was beautiful and sunny with about 30 members enjoying a light and healthy Subway. Nell our oldest Life Member played the mouthorgan as we sang along. We are once again having a competition with Safety Bay with ourselves hosting the morning tea.

Mandurah Trimliners have registered to host "A Biggest Morning Tea" as a fundraiser for Cancer in honour of members who have passed away. This will be in our clubrooms on 26th May.

It is with great sadness we note that long-time member Flora Shevlin passed away in February. Flora was a life member and held many various positions in the club over her time and will be sadly missed by all. Also another past member Nola Leckie passed away recently. Till next time, happy slimming... Members Mandurah Trimliners

MOORE RIVER WEIGHT WATCHERS

Moore River Weight Watchers celebrated their 20th Birthday at the Guilderton Country Club with a very nice lunch attended by 28 people, including members, partners, and special guests. Two of our special guests were Dot Branch and Carol Borwich who started MRWW in April 1995 and were presented with Life Membership badges. Dot told us some very funny stories from the beginning and read inserts from their first, handwritten, minutes book.

Our other special guests were Aileen Addison Federation President and Sheila Overton Federation Secretary who presented the Life Membership Badges, 4 Loyalty Badges and a very special badge for MRWW Slimmer of the Year Edna Flavell. Circumstances prevented us from entering Edna into Federation Slimmer of the Year and Edna had lost 45Kg over the year. She had been very ill and is now on dialysis but still makes the effort to weigh in and has been trying very hard to lose weight. So we believed she deserved the award. Now winter weather is fast approaching we will be planning more group exercises to counteract all the delicious soups we will be having. As always the motto "Moderation with all things" especially food and drink. We don't have to deprive ourselves just be aware of portion size. We had a good laugh amongst our members last week as we were each asked to bring in a toddler photo of ourselves. These were secretly stuck on a board with the members name on the back and a number below them. On a numbered sheet of paper we had to write down who we thought it was. It was not easy, and out of 13 photo's the winner only got 6 right!! Just a bit of fun. We will be holding our AGM at Sovereign Community Hall on the 6th May 2015 Until next month....Be kind whenever possible........it is always possible. Jae Watson President MRWW

GREENWOOD WEIGHT WATCHERS

Hi Fellow Weight Watchers, Our club is happy to announce we have a new Graduate Pauline Matthews. Congratulations Pauline!! Our club will celebrate her achievement at the Kingsley Tavern on the 29th April.

We celebrated Easter week with an “Easter Bonnet” competition and it was a fun evening. Our Winner for the best “Easter Bonnet” was Joy Easterby. Easter was not an easy to get through but knowing a Hot Cross Bun is 236 calories and an Easter egg in a box can be 500 calories made one think before we ate it. Ha! The Club did very well when we had a competition a few weeks ago losing 30kg. We have now reach a little plateau, maybe we need to get another competition going! Having a graph to look at our progress keeps us from going off the track. Hope you all enjoy the “Slimmer of the Year”. Congratulations to the well-deserved Winners! Susan Wetton

Hi All, It has been a busy month at Belmont. We welcome back Shirley to the club. Rosemary celebrate her 70th birthday with a yummy cake. Our queen of the month was Ros. Our Grads Jean C, Joyce, Ann and Marie have all stayed in their limit. A 4 week in a row loss daisy went to Maureen. Beryl Barker was presented with a Graduate ribbon. Well done to all these hard working ladies. Wendy received a black ribbon. On 24th March we enjoyed a lovely St Patricks Day themed bus trip to Mandurah, visiting Cape Bouvard winery for morning tea, had a look at 600 million year old Thrombolites, then Lunch at Friar Tucks and a quick side trip to The Spud shed before heading home exhausted. On 31st March, we enjoyed Hot Cross buns for morning tea and held a big Easter raffle thanks to Jean and the look on little Zane's face when he won a chocolate rabbit was priceless. The winners of our Easter weight loss competition were 1st Bev, 2nd Ros and 3rd Terri. Jean C was closest to her goal weight during the competition. Good work ladies. BUSSELTON WASPS

Hope you all enjoyed a lovely Easter and the school holidays. Busselton was heaving with tourists and holiday makers. Our little group also had a break for the school holidays. We are usually blessed with relatives and friends coming to stay so are not as free to count calories. The feeding of our visitors becomes a holiday mantra with little bits of something nice to tempt their appetites. Just one nibble won’t really show will it!! Our last meeting has Lois still tipping the scales and a new member, Sue showing us she has what it takes to achieve her weight loss goal. Think we may definitely have a contender for S.O.Y in 2016! We are anticipating that this term will continue to show we are losing every week and giving those extra kilojoules the shove. The raffle books will be distributed on Wednesday next when we meet. Going to be a Great Anzac day this year by all accounts. We will remember them. Please spare a thought too for our present serving men and women who are being called on to safeguard our society and Country from yet another peril. Try the way of losing weight....works for me Kind regards, Valerie (Hon sec )
