The Red Scare
Joseph McCarthy was a senator of Wisconsin. “Joe” McCarthy was a liar. He had won the senate election by lying about his opponent. To get re-elected, he felt that he had to lie again. McCarthy realized that the United States was paranoid about Communism, so he decided to scare the USA by telling them that he knew Communist spies in our nation. To gain attention, he made brash accusations against “Reds”. He told the press that he had a list of 205 names that had names of Communists.

The Red Scare (Cont.)
Joe McCarthy had help from HUAC, which stood for House Un-American Activities Committee. They also went around accusing innocent people. HUAC also targeted writers, directors and actors. With McCarthy and HUAC, many people were afraid to stand up and say what they thought. If they did, they would be accused of being a Commie! The Red Scare really ended when Joe McCarthy was censored.
