She said no. I asked why she wasn’t going and her answer made me think. She responded ”I really have no desire to go to that and I am working hard not to do things I really don’t want to do just to please someone else.” Wow! I thought it was a great answer. It all comes down to boundaries and standing up for our own needs. I understand there are often things we find ourselves doing that we don’t relish. Some things we can’t avoid, like doing our taxes, paying our bills, or listening to a friend who is hurting. We want to please others but just as crucial for our own well being is the ability to establish our own personal boundaries. In the words of Gael Lindenfield, “A good reason for not asserting yourself is, of course, that you think you are not worth the effort!” Trust me, you are worth it. How often have we taken on too much, or said yes to an invitation only to regret it later? We probably ended up frustrated and resentful. One of the keys to a healthy lifestyle is finding the ability to express what we need, believe and want. Face it; it’s ok to say “No” at times. Sometimes a “no” to another becomes a “yes” to ourselves. If you don’t feel comfortable writing that letter of reference then don’t. If you don’t need that one more box of Girl Scout cookies, politely decline. If going to the casino isn’t for you this Friday, go with your gut and just say no. According to P.M. Forni, “medical science tells us that nonassertive behavior is a health risk.” Setting healthy boundaries helps you decide how you will spend your time and energy. This journey through Lent has helped many of us focus in on what is important. We have denied some things to make room for other things. My prayer is that Easter will be a time to give thanks for life anew! Wishing you Easter Joy! Pastor Jan .

From Pastor Jan Recently I asked a friend if she was going to a certain event. She said no. I asked why she wasn’t going and her answer made me think. She responded ”I really have no desire to go to that and I am working hard not to do things I really don’t want to do just to please someone else.” Wow! I thought it was a great answer. In the words of Gael Lindenfield, “A good reason for not asserting yourself is, of course, that you think you are not worth the effort!” Trust me, you are worth it. Moe and Denise Helms shared their music on piano and French Horn. Special thanks to Liz Gdovin for playing her flute with the Bell Choir. We are busy rehearsing for Easter and are looking forward to having some folks from the Windsor UMC choir join us on Maundy Thursday. If you haven’t checked out the evening Contemporary Service you are in for a treat as the Praise Band leads us each month. Next service is April 9 at 6 PM. HOLY WEEK WORSHIP Maundy Thursday (April 13) worship will be in the sanctuary @ 7:00pm with Windsor UMC joining us. Good Friday “Service of Shadows” (April 14) will be at Windsor UMC @ 7:00pm. You are invited to Easter Sunrise Service @ 6:00am on the front lawn of Windsor UMC. Breakfast will be served inside following the service. UNITED METHODIST MEN

At the February meeting of the UMM, discussion was held as to interest in the men’s group continuing. What are your thoughts? Do you still want monthly Saturday breakfast meetings with church work projects? There was also discussion about meeting on a different day and having a bible discussion or book study, etc. Personally, I think Saturday is the best time. If it were during the week we would loose those men that work. Maybe we could meet quarterly? Whatever is your preference. We need the commitment of 10-12 men in order for it to work. Please share your thoughts regarding a Fairview United Methodist Men’s group with me or Alan Slocum. See us after church or we can be reached by e-mail [email protected]:[email protected]. You may also phone me at 724-0976. All men of the church are welcome to comment even if have not attended one of our gatherings. In order for this to work we must have some commitment. Thank you. ~ Joe Coons, Co-Chair

SISTERS OF LYDIA Calling all Sisters……our next meeting is April 3rd @ 6:30pm. Don’t forget to read chapter 2 in our new study book “7 Women.” Hope to see you all there!

WORSHIP COMMITTEE The Lenten season is a great time of the year to share your faith with family and friends. Take time to invite someone to join us in worship. The worship committee has put together welcome bags for our visitors on Sunday mornings. Our visitors will be greeted and given this bag which holds information that shares about all that Fairview has to offer. A little extra sweet treat is also included. Please make a point to make our visitors feel welcome. If you see an unfamiliar face carrying a brown bag with red tissue paper, stop and give a warm greeting. Don't forget to wear your name tags as another simple gesture to welcome our guests. Remember you only get one first impression. We are hoping to have our new sound system in the near future. We are looking for volunteers to help run the system. If you have any technology background or would like to learn, see Pastor Jan. Pastor Jan and our praise band continue to offer an evening service once a month. It is a great time of fellowship and worship. Please consider joining us on April 9th at 6:00pm. Don't forget to bring a friend. During this time of Lent do not forget to pray for the growth of our church. God Bless, Korin Spencer, Worship Committee

315-898-2000. The toll-free number, 855-424-7878, will remain the same. FINANCE COMMITTEE Your Finance Committee has been meeting monthly to creatively meet our budget needs. Our goal is a balanced budget for Fairview UMC! Back by popular demand is the “Krispy Kreme Eat & Share” fundraiser. We know most of us can only eat “so many” donuts, right? However, we can share donuts with others as tokens of thanks, caring and sharing. Please consider buying what you & your family will enjoy & then buying extra dozens for friends, neighbors, people at work and in the community. Last year we gave donuts to local businesses that support Fairview, Calvin Coolidge teachers, Whitney Place Rescue Mission, Good Shepherd Fairview staff, the local fire station and more. We will take orders from now until May 7th with delivery to the church on Mother’s Day, May 14th. Donuts will have been baked early that morning of the 14th!! They are $8/dozen and about half of that goes to the church as a fundraiser. Yes, they can be frozen as well. Look for a sign-up sheet in the narthex at church for suggested places to donate donuts (or add your own ideas). Please give checks & order forms to Dale Spencer or put in the offering plate. You may choose to mail the order sheet below to the church office. Please be sure to note the number of boxes you are purchasing in the Memo section of your check. ~ Blenda Smith, Finance Committee Scribe ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
