2011 JANUARY 1 THE FAIRVIEWAN
My beloved members,
Happy New Year to all of you! I hope that you have
enjoyed the holidays and are ready to face this new year with
renewed hope.
“Yesterday is already a dream,
and tomorrow is only a vision,
but today, well lived,
makes every yesterday a dream
of happiness and
every tomorrow a
vision of hope.”
- Author Unknown—
Will your yesterdays be dreams fulfilled and your tomorrows full of hope? As
you make your New Year’s resolutions, I hope you will determine to live each
day to its fullest. Do not dwell on the past or count on the future. Ask yourself
daily, “What would God have me do today?” and “How would Jesus handle
this?”
I am full of enthusiasm as we embark upon a new year as a church family.
As we reflect upon the past year, remembering our accomplishments and our
less than fulfilling moments as a Church Family, I encourage all of you to look to
the future, set goals that fit your beliefs, and “press toward the mark for the prize
of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). The present tense
verb translated I press on denotes Paul’s continued effort to “pursue the
impossible dream and defeat the unbeatable foe.”
In the race of life we concentrate on the path and we forget as we run. We may store
our achievements in our memory, but we do not allow them to slow us in our present
running. We may take them from our memory storehouse on occasion, but we do not
rest on our laurels, but to be energized for the race ahead.
Fairview, let us never forget the goal of the Christian race, “the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Let us ask God for His strength, guidance and direction for the year 2011, and
pray as Amy Carmichael once prayed.
“Make us thy mountaineers,
We would not linger on the lower slope,
Fill us afresh with hope, Oh God of hope,
That undefeated we may climb the hill
As seeing Him who is invisible.”
May we always be aware of the presence of “Him who is invisible!”

DO YOU HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP
WITH JESUS CHRIST?
If you believe in your heart that Jesus Is Lord, the Christ,
the Savior, the Son of the Living God, and you are willing to
turn from sin to God, then receive Jesus Christ now by faith
and pray this prayer:
Lord Jesus I am a sinner. Forgive me of all my sins, come into my heart
and save me. I do now confess you as my risen Lord.
Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me. AMEN

But He saves the needy from the sword, From the mouth of the mighty, and from

THERESA KIRKLIN, MINISTRY LEADER
2011 JANUARY 3 THE FAIRVIEWAN
Fairview’s 30th Annual Prayer Bowl was held on New Year’s
Eve, December 31, from 6pm to 12:30am The event was well
attended with what I estimate to be crowds from 500 to 900 in
attendance at each of the hour long sessions.
The congregation throughout the long night was enthusiastic
and each messenger was equally enthusiastic in their messag-
es from heaven that God had given to them.
Fairview’s Praise Team set the tone for the evening with a
spirited devotional praise period.
Pastor Kelly Booker from the New Union Baptist Church was
the first of six messengers and he stirred the attendees with a
message that he entitled “Shaking Things Up,” using Acts
16:25-26 as his text. God shook things up appearing in the
form of an earthquake at the midnight hour, freeing Paul and
Silas from their shackles and the Roman Prison and Jailors
that held them captive. Instead of bemoaning their plight,
they prayed and sang praises to the God who is worthy of all
of our praise. God rewards faithfulness and Paul and Silas
received their rewards.
The Guest Evangelist, and a close confidant of Pastor Reed’s
in the ministry was the speaker
at the 7pm hour. Rev. R. L.
Sanders from Fort Worth, Tex-
as, went to the Old Testament
book of Ezekiel and lifted a
beautifully crafted message
from chapter 3, verses 1-3,
that he entitled “Eat This
Roll.” The “Roll” was actual-
ly a scroll that was filled with
messages that God wanted Ezekiel to go to preach to a hard-
hearted people of Israel. God told Ezekiel that they would
understand the language that he would deliver the message in,
but because of their hard-heartedness, they would not listen to
nor accept the message. Ezekiel did as God commanded him
to do and again was rewarded for his obedience and faithful-
ness.
Pastor K. Gerone Free, from the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church
spoke during the 8m hour. I have heard Pastor Free preach on
several occasions, but this time he appeared more powerful
than ever. From the Gospel of John 8:2-11, he told the story
of the woman who was accused of adultery and chose the in-
triguing title of “Neither Do I Condemn You.” Pastor Free
had the entire house in an uproar as he related how Jesus once
again foiled his tormentors, who were intent on trapping Him
into sinfulness. Jesus challenged them by saying that, “he
that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her”.
Not one of them qualified to cast a stone and soon she stood
alone before Jesus. “Jesus asked her, woman where are your
accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, no man
Lord. Jesus said unto her, neither do I condemn thee; go and
sin no more.”
One of my favorite preachers was the messenger at the 9pm
hour. From the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor
Major Lewis Jemison was his indomitable self with a message
from on high that he entitled “When Where You Are Seems
Like Hell.” Read Jonah 2:1-2 and you can quickly see
where his inspiration for the title of his message derived from.
Pastor Jemison is a powerful speaker and he was in rare form
that night. He admires Pastor Reed and that admiration is
displayed each time he stands behind the sacred desk at the
Fairview Church.
Rev. Dr. Levi Lenley delivered a ringing message on “The
Enhancement of the Human Mentality,” Ephesians 1:18-
20. Verse 17, says “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of Him.” Understanding the spir-
it of his wisdom, enables us to fully grasp the complete under-
standing of what his death at Calvary means to our spiritual
well being.
One of Pastor Reed’s sons in the ministry, and another of my
favorite proclaimers of the Gospel, the Angel and Pastor of
the Greater Bethel Baptist Church, filled the last spot in the
lineup. Rev. Terron V. Gaddis was at his exhorting, fiery, and
powerful best as he rung in the New Year with a declaration
that “God Knows What He is Doing.” Romans 8:28-29 was
his stated text, but the message is found in verse 28 where the
Apostle Paul declares that “We know that all things work to-
gether for good to them that love God, to them who are called
according to his purpose.” Paul also declares in Romans 9:24
that “Even us, whom he hath called not of the Jews only, but
also of the Gentiles.”
Each of the messengers brought full choirs or a musical aggre-
gation to accompany them, with the exception of Pastor Sand-
ers from Fort Worth. The Fairview JR Inspirational Choir
provided the musical support for him. The music enhanced
the messages from on high given by the messengers.
Sister Willa Nero and the Culinary Ministry deserve kudos
for providing physical food to the large gathering throughout
the entire evening. They did a masterful job as usual.
At the concluding hour, we all sang a hymn and went out to
await the occasion of the 31st Annual Prayer Bowl on Decem-
ber 31, 2011.

2011 JANUARY 5 THE FAIRVIEWAN
The Ministry returns from the vacation/holiday
period ready to resume the work of the King-
dom, which plentifully lies before them. Our
prayer is that we will be of greater service dur-
ing this year which the Lord, by His grace and
mercy, has allowed us to be a part of. We
thank God that we have a chance once more to
be co-laborers with Him and once again get
those things right that we failed to get right dur-
ing the past year.
Men, we remind you once again to pray for
those who are standing in the need of prayer.
Lets remember to pray for the sick and afflicted,
the bereaved, and those who are in need of
God’s Special blessings.
My Personal prayer is that God will move in the
hearts of each of you to allow you to be of
greater service and become actively involved in
the activities of the Ministry. Our meeting date
is each Second (2nd) Wednesday of the month at
6 PM. We will not meet this month for this is
the evening of our Super Prayer Meeting and we
will be actively involved in that. I ask each of
you to be present that evening and give your
support to our Prayer Ministry as we invoke
God’s blessings upon all mankind. As our
Prayer Coordinator, First Lady Pat Reed, says,
“It begins and ends with prayer.” Prayer is the
key to the Kingdom, but faith unlocks the door
to the Kingdom. God rewards faithfulness and
I want to be the recipient of those rewards.
Scripture for the Month: Delight thyself also
in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires
of thine heart. Psalms 37:4

FAIRVIEW BAPTIST CHURCH DRAMA MINISTRY
PRESENTS
THE CHRISTMAS STORY IN SCRIPTURE-SONG-DANCE
On December 19, 2010, the Drama Ministry
offered us their version of the birth of our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The play was narrated by Bro. Bob Simmons re-
telling the “Christmas Story.” The congregation
began by singing, “Joy to the World.” Then the
scripture was read, describing the day Jesus was
born to Mary and Joseph (played by Sis. LaRhesa
and Bro. Dedrick Marsh).
On this day a child is born and the hymn, “O Little
Town of Bethlehem,” was sung by the
JR Junior Choir. The scripture was
read by the narrator describing the
visit of “The Three Kings” (Bro.
Ardis Franklin, Bro. Larry Epps, and
Bro. Ron Coffey), who boldly sung
the hymn, “We Three Kings of Orient Are.”
The scripture was read by the narrator describing
baby Jesus and the hymn, “Away in a Manger”
was softly sung by Bro. James Tobler. The Ladies
of LIFT presented a praise dance to Mahalia
Jackson’s powerful musical arrangement of “The
Lord’s Prayer.” Scripture was read of King
Herod’s desire to kill the baby. The
Angel (Sis. Laila Marsh) then
appeared and warned Mary and Joseph
of King Herod (Mark Johnson). Praise
Dance group, “In Touch With the Spirit,” danced
for us.
The program was closed out with the hymn,
“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” Closing
remarks and benediction were given by Sunday
School Director Bro. Ron Coffey. Additional
remarks were made by Hattie Marsh, Drama
Ministry Director.
Thanks to all who participated and made this
production possible!

there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things
are passed away.” — Revelation 21:4
In Memory of
Sister IONE BETTY LEE WESTBROOK was born to Prince
Albert and Minnie Mackey Westbrook in Perkins, Oklaho-
ma.
Sister Westbrook, well known as “Granny,” was a talented
seamstress. She loved her family and gave of herself to
provide for her children and her grandchildren.
Sister Ione was devoted to God and her church. She was a
faithful member of the Mt Zion Baptist Church in Stillwa-
ter, Oklahoma, and upon moving to Oklahoma City, united
with the Fairview Baptist Church. She was committed to
her Pastor and Fairview and attended until her health
failed.
Sister Westbrook is survived by a host of family members
and friends. The church family offer our prayers and sup-
port to her daughter, Peggy, and other family members.
May God continue to keep you in His loving care.
“Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are
the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”
“Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their
deeds will follow them.” - Revelations 14:13 (NIV)
