energy must be removed from blood to keep you healthy

Page 3: The Excretory System

Kidneys – filter out excess water, salt and chemicals as urine

Lungs – filter out carbon dioxide, CO2, from the blood. (respiratory system)

Skin – excretes water, as sweat, which contains some trace chemical wastes, including urea. (epidermis)

Function - filter wastes and excess water from the blood.

Importance – control the amount of water in body, tell body when to make new red blood cells, take harmful chemicals from blood

Other Info – located in back under ribsYou have 2 kidneys, but can live with 1

Kidneys

Page 9: The Excretory System

Function - tubes that take urine from the kidney to the urinary bladder.

Importance – after the waste is filtered from blood, it must go to the bladder for storage

Other Info – each kidney has its own ureter

Ureter

Page 10: The Excretory System

Function: a sack that stores urine/liquid waste

Importance: Holds urine until you go to the bathroom

Other Info: when full, a message is sent to your brain telling you to go to the bathroom

Urinary Bladder

Page 11: The Excretory System

Function- small tube that carries urine out of the body.

Importance – connects the bladder to the outside of the body, how urine leave body

Other Info – about 6mm wide
