Good evening and welcome toCuthbury for this Red Insure Cuptie against our friends and (al-

most) neighbours, Weymouth. Please, everyone, make our visitors feel at hometonight.

Saturday's game ended in another disap-pointing defeat, although I don't think I'mbeing too biased when I say that no-onecould have denied us a draw. DaveBriggs' video shows clearly that the late"goal" by Morgan Turner, which was dis-allowed for offside, should have stoodand we played well enough to deserve ashare of the points. However, there's nodenying that mistakes are costing us goalsand no-one knows that better than theManager and the players.

Anyway, tonight sees a break from leagueaction and we're up against a Weymouthside who have made a good start to theirPremier Division season.. They currentlylie third, just behind Leamington & PooleTown and look sure to be challenging forthe title come April. And with Dorches-ter in fifth spot, that's three Dorset sidesin the top five. We wish them all well.

There was a rather disappointing & mis-informed article in the Echo last nightabout Steve Cuss's position at the Club. The facts are - and this was explained toeveryone at the Fans' Forum before thestart of the season - that ex-ChairmanPaul Miller very kindly gave up his sharesin the Club as he was no longer involved. He gave them to Steve Cuss as a gesture

of thanks to Steve for all he'd done whilePaul was Chairman. Steve does not havea "controlling interest" in the Club whichis run by a Board of Directors who onlyhave Wimborne Town's long term inter-ests at heart. We are, first & foremost, supporters.

Steve Harvey and I had a useful and posi-tive meeting with Todd Govan of DCFAyesterday about the new ground and theimplications of going for a 3G stadiumpitch. That's the latest in quite a fewmeetings we've had with Todd and hiscolleagues, and you'll be pleased to hearwe've had 100% support from DCFA.We'll be having another meeting withWyatt Homes (the developers) in a coupleof weeks and we'll let you know whatcomes out of that. The planning applica-tion for the new ground and the surround-ing houses is due to be heard by the EastDorset planning authority within the nextmonth.

This Saturday we make the long journeyto Bishops Cleeve. There's a coach go-ing, and if you want to book your seat seeeither me or Ross Grant this evening.

Enjoy this evening’s game.

From the Dugout

Welcome to tonight's Red InsureCup game against Weymouth. We extend a welcome to Jason

Matthews and his management team alongwith players, directors and supporters.

Saturday's 2-3 defeat against Marlow con-tinued our frustrations of recent weeks. Al-though we had many positives, the result isall important and again we were left disap-pointed. New signings Luke Holmes andWayne Crutcher both fitted in well, and I'msure that they will prove good additions tothe team.

I read with interest James Stokoe's pro-gramme notes on Saturday where he men-tions that the players do read the Forumand press coverage. With this in mind (asthe interests of the players are at the fore-front of all my decisions) I thought it wastime for me to respond to the daily Forumchat.

I fully understand everyone's frustration butI would ask for two issues to remain at theforefront of everyone's comments. Firstly,to make any comments written factual. Ihave had to read various bits that are farfrom the truth and are written without be-ing in receipt of all the facts. And secondly, please direct all the negative comments atmyself. As the Manager I take full respon-sibility for the results, naming and thendirecting criticism at individual playersdoesn't help our collective aim which is toimprove the results. To all those peoplewho have called / texted / spoken with methrough this difficult period, I would like tosay “thank you”.

The truth is, I recently offered my resigna-tion to the Board. They met to discuss this, and they all wanted me to carry on. With

the respect I have for the Board, I will con-tinue to do my very best as Manager ofWimborne Town FC.

The article in the local paper about me tak-ing a controlling share in the Club is verywide of the mark. I do now own the sharesgiven to me by the previous Chairman(which was announced at the last Fans’ Fo-rum) but I have no desire to control theClub. The Board of Directors (which I'm ononly to assist) will continue to make jointdecisions to the benefit of the Club. Theshares will remain with me until the Boarddecide which is the best place for theseshares, and with which people.

We are all frustrated with recent results. Iwill continue to work as hard as possible toturn results around, and we all need to sup-port the players.

I personally will continue to work as hardand to the best of my abilities as I can, tobring some positivity to Wimborne TownFC.

Please continue to support this great club.

Thank you.

Enjoy tonight’s game.

From the Dressing RoomHi, and welcome to tonight’s Red In-

sure Cup game against Weymouthunder the Cuthbury floodlights. The RedInsure is our league cup, and early tiestend to be local games to keep travelling toa minimum. And there will be a result to-night, no replay.

On Saturday we were at home in theleague against Marlow. The back-line hada new look following Arnie and Cossy’sinjuries. Declan made his debut in thestarting XI, and I guess that was the firsttime many of you had seen him play. Inthe middle was Wayne. We didn’t knowthat he’d signed until we arrived at theground. I think Steve got his signature lateon Friday evening.

Declan came from AFCB and has a goodfootball background. He’s getting used toplaying senior football, and has got toquickly adapt to the physical side of thegame at this level. He’s assured on theball, had a good game on Saturday, andwill only get better with experience.Wayne has lots of experience. I vaguelyremember him at AFCB, but he was a cou-ple of years ahead of me. He’s been herebefore, but not during my first spell at theCuthbury. And it’s great to have Holmesyback. I understand that he was at trainingon Thursday. He’s good entertainment inthe Changing Room, so team spirits werehigh before Saturday’s game.

Marlow had a number of smaller, quickand sharp players, which is a bit differentfrom other teams we’ve recently faced. As I went back to defend a corner, and itmight even have been the one they scoredfrom, I said to the lads that we should tryto get to half-time without conceding!

Then they scored twice in 5 minutes, andsuddenly we were 2-0 down at the break. We didn’t change anything during the in-terval as we felt from the way we’d playedthat we could well have been on levelterms. Blakey had been getting in the boxduring the first half, and had had a coupleof chances. His back-header from Billy’sthrow early in the second half was proba-bly the hardest of his opportunities.

We’d just changed formation when theygot their third. Their no.7, who was a de-cent player, worked his way into the box,Oli cleared the ball, but it richochetedback to their lad who scored. And that wasfairly typical of our luck at the moment.Similar situations in their box ended withthe ball with their defenders.

Griff did well to hold off a defender to gethis head to a corner for our second goal. It’s great that Griff has now opened hisgoalscoring account for the season. We’veworked on set plays a lot this season andwe’re scoring goals from them.

In the changing room after the game, thelads were disappointed with the result. Onthe positive side we’d created plenty ofchances, and tested their keeper more thanthey had Jason. But at the end of the daythey went away with 3 points.

We’ll have to see how Holmesy’s hand isafter he was pushed into the wall. I heardthe thud from the half-way line, so he wasprobably fortunate it wasn’t a lot worse. The ref thought he fell into the wall.

As players you want to test yourselfagainst higher opponents like Weymouth. It should be a good game tonight. Enjoy it.

James Stokoe

Wimborne Town 2 Marlow 3 - 10 Oct 2015 - Ken Fergus reports

Despite both new signings in the startinglineup, Wimborne went down 3-2 to Mar-low at Cuthbury on Saturday.

Wayne Crutcher joined Declan Randall,Billy Maybury & Ian Oliver in a new lookback four, while the returning Luke Holm-es made up a midfield five with Sam Grif-fin, James Stokoe, Jon Blake & CarlPreston. Mark Gamble was up front andJason Harvell was in goal.

With Jon Blake looking sharp, Magpiesmade a good start and had a couple of halfchances to hit the front. Blakey's flick-onon 5 minutes gave Gambo a chance andthen an excellent ball set Sam Griffin freebut he overran the ball.

Luke Holmes made a great run on 16 min-utes which ended with him being uncere-moniously bundled over the bye-line andinto the retaining wall. It looked nasty fora while but Luke was able to resume aftertreatment from John Edwards.

Ian Oliver's shot was blocked by a defend-er on 22 minutes and two minutes later itlooked as though Mark Gamble had putWimborne ahead but his volley flew pastthe right hand post.

Wimborne were on top at this point al-though it certainly wasn't one way traffic.Billy Maybury had to make a great blockto keep the scores level before Marlowtook the lead on 35 minutes. A sensationalfingertip save by Jason Harvell led to aMarlow corner and when the ball was re-turned into the box there was Chris Oven-den to fire Marlow ahead.

Worse was to follow three minutes laterwhen a combination of defensive confu-sion and a lucky deflection allowed Jor-dace Holder-Spooner to double Marlow'slead.

2-0 to the visitors at half-time, then, and anuphill task facing the Magpies. They madethe best possible start to the second period, however, when Jon Blake scored with aheader on 49 minutes. Jon Blake glancedanother header wide on 52 minutes beforeMarlow had their best spell of the game.

Jason had to be sharp to tip over a 20 yardfree-kick on 63 minutes and at the otherend a Sam Griffin cross was headed overby Blakey. Franklyn Clarke came on forBlakey with 20 minutes left and, 5 minuteslater, Morgan Turner replaced WayneCrutcher. Mark Gamble had a chance on75 minutes but his quick shot from 10yards was easily gathered by the Marlowkeeper. Then, on 77 minutes, and with theMagpies pressing forward for an equaliser,Marlow broke and scored their thirdthrough Kunle Otudeko who took thechance well.

Carl Preston got to the bye-line on 83 min-utes and his intelligent cut-back was metby Luke Holmes who had his head in hishands as he shot wide. Two minutes later, though, and Wimborne were back within agoal, Sam Griffin rising highest to netfrom a corner. And Wimborne shouldhave had an equaliser shortly afterwardswhen Morgan Turner netted only to beruled offside. Dave Briggs' video clearlyshows there was a Marlow defender play-ing the Magpie forwards onside but, whenyour luck's out, it's out.

No-one would have said a draw was anunfair result, but facts are facts and welost! However, when the new look de-fence has had a few more games togetherand with Luke Holmes playing just offGambo, I'm sure the wins will start. Spon-sors' man of the match was Sam Griffin, although Jon Blake must have pushed himclose.

A fesity end to thefirst half saw McDonald dismissed after anangry exchange with referee Tom Rather-am as the players walked off.The hosts dominated after the break, withVeiga’s only action to gather a Mark Coop-er effort. The Reds, prompted by Osborne and JamieMolyneux, pressed, and only the bar csavedthe Terras on 65 minutes when George Car-line headed Osborne’s cross to the far post, but Jim Mutton’s shot hit the woodwork.Molyneux and Luke Shearer had strongruns, only to waste the chances, and Carlineand Osborne might have snatched it late on,but it was not to be.

Weymouth Football Club was founded in 1890 and will be celebrating their 125th anni-versary next year. Formed as an amateur club the club is nicknamed "The Terras" due tothe terra-cotta and blue quartered shirts they originally wore. The club's impact on Dor-set's football scene was immediate and we won the Dorset Junior Cup for the first threeseasons, prompting the Dorset FA to re-classify us as a senior club. After winning the Western League Championship in 1923, the club joined the SouthernLeague and adopted professionalism. However financial difficulties led to the club re-turning to amateur status and the Western League in 1928.After the Second War the club were forced to start again, in the Western League Divi-sion 2, gaining promotion in 1948 and then third place in Division 1 the following year.Weymouth returned to the Southern League for the 1949-50 season and remained untilbecoming founder members of the Alliance Premier League in 1979-80, finishing as run-ners-up in the inaugural season. The Terras became Southern League Champions in1964-65 and 1965-66.Weymouth have enjoyed considerable FA Cup success: in 1949 they became ManchesterUnited's first FA Cup opponents back at Old Trafford after the War and were not dis-graced in a 0-4 defeat, in the 3rd round. In 1962 we reached the Fourth round before los-ing 0-2 away at Preston North End.In 1987 the club moved from its harbourside Recreation Ground to the Wessex Stadiumand - for a while - it looked as if promotion to the Football League would materialize. After coming close, however, the club were relegated back to the Southern League(1989) - and even lower - before returning to the Premier Division in 1997.Following a succession of seasons treading water, the club was taken over in 2004 and anew board of directors installed Steve Claridge as player-manager with a mission tobring success to the club. Galvanising club and town, with league attendances averaging1490, Claridge led the Terras to runners-up spot in his first season and promotion to theNationwide South League. The club returned to full time professionalism in 2005 andcelebrated with the Nationwide South title at the end of that season. Our initial season back in the Conference resulted in an 11th place finish, but the clubstruggled the following season before being led to safety by manager John Hollins. His tenure ended at the start of 2008 and Alan Lewer became manager in January 2009.At the start of 2009 Weymouth's financial difficulties surfaced, leading to the resignationof chairman Curtis. Former chairman Ian Ridley replaced him in March and - days later -Lewer was replaced by former Welsh manager Bobby Gould. Despite his experience theclub was relegated, having only gained a single point since the majority of the first teamhad walked out in February. In May the club brought in Matty Hale - a popular ex-player- as their new manager, with another ex-player Ian Hutchinson as his assistant. After a disappointing start to the 2009-10 season Hale stepped down and Hutchinson wasappointed caretaker manager.Following months of financial problems and near liquidation, the club was taken over byGeorge Rolls at the end of November 2009. After defeat by Chelmsford City in mid Jan-uary 2010 Hutchinson was dismissed - followed by his assistant Andy Mason - and re-placed by ex-Birmingham City player Jerry Gill. However Gill only lasted 44 daysbefore he resigned leaving assistant Andy Harris in charge.

At the end of the 2009-10 season the club were relegated from the Blue Square South tothe Zamaretto Premier League. Ian Hutchinson and Andy Mason returned to the club atthe beginning of the following season with the task of rebuilding the Terras' squad on avastly reduced budget. After two post Christmas defeats Hutchinson was again relievedof his duties and succeeded by the vastly experienced Martyn Rogers, a former success-ful manager of Tiverton Town and ex-Weymouth player.Rogers successfully steered the club away from the relegation places, but was not award-ed a contract for the 2010-11 season as the club appointed local man (and another explayer) Brendon King to the manager's role with Mattie Groves as his assistant. In February 2012 a consortium of local men and club supporters, led by current Chair-man Nigel Biddlecombe, were able to buy the club and set about trying to both stabilizethe Terras and lead its recovery. After a good 9th place finish in 2012-13 results weredisappointing as 2013-14 got going and King paid the price when he was replaced by theclub's vastly experienced goalkeeper Jason Matthews, initially as caretaker, who has tak-en to the mantle of player-manager with fantastic enthusiasm. Jason certainly made hismark during his first season in charge but the Terras fell agonising short missing out onthe play-offs after being well placed at Christmas. With the club now stabilized off the field Matthews has been working hard to get thingsright on it and we are confident of a reasonable season as we prepare for the celebrationof our 125th birthday this year.

We travelled to Portland, last year’sLeague Champions, with only 12 players. The game started evenly with both keepersbringing off "hollywood" saves. The game ebbed and flowed for the open-ing 25 minutes. We seemed comfortable inpossession and had most clear cut chanceswithout testing our host’s keeper.25 minutes in and a miss-control fromPortland’s left footed striker, left 21 out ofthe 22 players facing the other way as sheswivelled and finished well.Heads didn't drop and we pushed forwardand within 5 minutes a through ball fromHollie Lemon fell to Jess Marshallsay whohad peeled away at the far post, Jess thencalmly lobbed the advancing keeper.

Half-time brought changes as Erin was un-able to continue in goal with an injury toher back, Sian taking the gloves. There were early chances at both ends asSian swept up nicely to prevent an awk-ward moment behind our back line, andKerry broke through their defensive lineand keeper, but was unable to steer home. Then Portland won a corner on the left, and one of their tall defenders headed in.

Liegh Bartlett broke down the left and justas she went past the full back her kneetwisted and had to be withdrawn. Going

down to 10 players seemed to spur on thegirls as we continued to create chances. 10minutes later Liegh felt able to return, to atleast cause a nuisance of herself. But thenext chance fell to Liegh who finished wellfrom the edge of the box to equalise.

Defensively we looked strong and organ-ised. Poppy Chapman and Lucy Cuff di-recting operations from centre back.Sophie Acott and Ella Dunford maintain-ing an attacking presence down the flanks, never neglecting their defensive duties.Midfield were dominating play, dictatingthe tempo of the game. With 12 minutes to go, we attacked downthe right. A ball into the box was headedclear to "Lemon" hovering outside the box.One touch, and she fired into the roof ofthe net to give us the lead.

Not resting on our laurels, we pushed on.A break through the middle gave a chancefor Jess to score her second.Kerry and Cait then linked well with Kerrysupplying the assist as Cait finished tomake it 5. The same combination and thesame result, Cait getting her 2nd and our6th. Hollie scored from distance beforePortland got a late consolation.

A massive performance from the girls.PoM - Caitlin Steele

Wimborne Town Reserves - Wyvern Combination

Stoneham got into their rhythm of playstraightaway and unsettled Wimborne. Itwas against the run of play that the visitorsworked an overlap down the left. Jake Car-swell crossed for Liam Parry-Murphy toscore from close range. This seemed tospur Wimborne to get their passing playtogether and show more conviction inmoving the ball. However, Stoneham con-tinued to dominate the first half.Danny Tourh was brought on for Wim-borne to support the attacking play and

give another option on the left. It tookDanny 6 mins to get on the score sheet todouble the lead. Five minutes later Stone-ham’s No7 scored a cracking goal from25yds to make it 2-1 at half time.

Wimborne were reminded to keep thingssimple for the next half. The players re-sponded well, contained the threat fromStoneham, and took control of the game. They went further ahead with a goal fromBen Knight which completed the scoring.

This was an interesting test for MartinClark's Under 18's. First teamer RyanJohnson showed commendable willingnessto play for the team.Sholing started with initiative and purposeand went one-up. Wimborne graduallycame into the game but with no real inci-sive attacking threat. Then Bonningtonscored after beating two men and rifled in-to the left side of the net. Sholing came

straight back and re-took the lead after adefensive muddle at a corner. Sholing wereby now exerting more control and scoredagain with a good low shot. A fourth Shol-ing goal made for a harsh scoreline.A fine spectacle it was. Hopefully moreWimborne fans will be encouraged towatch our Youth and Reserves games.

THREE goals in a blistering opening 20minute spell helped Weymouth ease pastWimborne Town in lthe Dorset Senior Cupsemi-final tie at the Avenue Stadium.Martin Underhay, Kevin Parker and MarkRobinson were all on target for the Terraswho meet Dorchester Town in the final.

Former Magpie Underhay got the ball roll-ing on three minutes when he latched on toMichael Dean's chip over a static Wim-borne defence and lobbed brilliantly be-yond advancing goalkeeper Geoff Sim.Town barely had time to digest the newsbefore the Dr Martens Premier Divisionside had doubled their advantage, courtesyof ex-Torquay United winger Kevin Park-er. John Waldock set it up with a seventhminute cross from the right and Parker waswell-positioned to score from ten yards viathe head of Wimborne’s Scott Cannie.

And it was effectively game over by the19th minute with another slide rule passfrom midfielder Dean again leaving theMagpies' rearguard for dead. This time itwas Robinson who raced through andsmashed a low drive against Sim's legs, butthe rebound popped up invitingly for theTerra who calmly nodded home.Weymouth were in complete control bynow, and the lively Underhay came closeto with a well struck volley.

Wimborne eventually made their presenceknown on 33 minutes when Paul Roasttook a quick free-kick from the edge of thebox which Terras’ gloveman Paul Payne

saved athletically. Aaron Turner shouldhave given the Wessex League outfit aglimmer of hope just before the break, buthis toe poke from close range was clearedoff the line by Mark Rawlinson.

Weymouth took their foot off the gas fol-lowing the interval but they still createdplenty of openings with Underhay's backheel from Robinson's centre almost foxingSim just after the restart. But the giantTown keeper could do nothing to preventDarran Rowbotham from netting numberfour on 65 minutes, with Robinson againthe provider from the left.

Turner's superb 25-yard strike gave theproductive Magpies a deserved consolationgoal 15 minutes from time and AndrewClasby could have set his former Wey-mouth team-mate's nerves jangling ifPayne had not saved bravely at his feetwith ten minutes remaining. SubstituteDavid Laws, playing his last game in a ter-ra cotta shirt before moving to NewportIoW, almost signed off with a 90th minutegoal, but he shot straight at a grateful Sim.
