Discover The Women And Passion Behind Picasso's Works Please join us Thursday 29 October from 1-3pm in the clubhouse for an interesting lecture entitled Picasso’s Ladies. It has been said that Picasso changed his companions as often as he changed his painting styles. For Picasso, his romantic relationships provided the inspiration for countless paintings, drawings and sculptures. This lecture will focus on eight of his major
relationships and their impact on his art.
Several Enclave residents have already taken a course with this instructor, Ann Wiker, and recommend her highly. Ann, who works as an art consultant and a painter, is the director of Art Exposure Inc. She has taught art studio, history and appreciation courses through the Hopkins and Towson State's OSHER Programs and Howard
Community College.
Don’t delay as attendance will be limited! The cost for the offering is $10. Please register with Barbara Lovett (301-604-7486) and make checks you provide to her payable to The Enclave at Ellicott Hills.

MINUTES OF ENCLAVE BOARD MEETING
August 4, 2015
Present: Diane Fadely, Pat Vogel, Sharon Garry, Charles Ackerman, Juliana Kopec, Mike Conron,
Phyllis Mitchell, Linda Gugliemelli, Lisa Shank
An Executive Session was held for 40 minutes prior to the open meeting at which no decisions
were made.
The meeting was called to order by the president at 6:35. A quorum was present.
1. OPEN FORUM: A committee member reported that the police department has an updated safety presentation which they would like to schedule for residents to attend. The OSM will
work with the committee to secure a date.
i. A resident inquired about the suggestion for marking the street lanes at dangerous spots. The sub-associations will poll their people to see if they wish to put in permanent speed humps. It
was suggested that a traffic specialist be consulted for their input for solving the problems.
ii. A resident made a request that the vote on the kitchen renewal be removed from the agenda until the committee has had a chance to look at the proposals. His position is that there have been only two proposals for this project which is contrary to accepted business practice and the committee’s flow chart. The committee is concerned that there are errors in the RFP which were not approved by the committee.
iii. A resident commented that he would like to see a return on his investment for the money that
he has paid into replacement reserves for renovating the kitchen.
iv. A resident who was not familiar with the issue has listened to the discussion and feels that there is no agreement about the process between the committees. Another resident feels there is enough of a lack of unanimity that it behooves the Board to postpone the decision on this
project until there is more agreement.
v. A member of the working committee of the Clubhouse Committee explained the scope of the
improvements in response to a resident who questioned what work was being planned.
2. TREASURER’S REPORT: Half way through the year, spending is $34,000 over budget due to snow removal costs. Landscaping is ahead of budget due to several large projects which were approved but have not been paid out as yet. We will be close to the budget by the year end. Replacement reserves are at $419,000; operating contingency fund is at $69,000. Applying the $34,000 budget shortfall against the operating contingency fund will leave a
balance of $35,000 in this account.
3. COMMITTEE REPORTS: No reports were received.
4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
i. Website: Three community volunteers will evaluate the new website.
ii. All the clubhouse renovations have been completed except for the game room table
refurbishing.
iii. The incorrect piece of gym equipment is due to be replaced soon.
5. ITEMS NEEDING BOARD VOTE:
i. A motion was made and seconded to ratify the decision to purchase the NuStep piece of
gym equipment. The vote was all in favor.
4
Dr
aft
ii. A motion was made and seconded to ratify the decision to agree to the request of Condo 1 to replace the deteriorating bench on HOA property at their expense. The vote was all in
favor.
iii. A motion was made and seconded to give the lifeguard the discretion to order an adult swim
for 15 minutes once an hour if conditions dictate the necessity.
iv. A motion was made and seconded to ratify the decision to approve the formation of a Nominating Committee to secure nominees for the next Board election. The vote was all in
favor. Juliana Kopec has volunteered to chair this committee.
v. A motion was made and seconded to approve the kitchen replacement with a ceiling cost of $30,000 with the stipulation that the various committees be given additional time to secure other proposals. These proposals are due to the Board for their working meeting on
September 17. The vote was all in favor.
6. OPEN FORUM: A resident reported that our lifeguard is getting married and there will be a
small farewell party held at 4:00 on Wednesday, August 5. All are welcome to attend.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:10.
An Executive Session was held from 8:15 to 8:50 following the Board meeting.
Respectfully submitted, Phyllis Mitchell, Secretary
Our Summer Lifeguard Gets Married Our residents presented Linnea a wedding gift of over $400 on her last day with us.
There was an impromptu small gathering, with cake, on the deck of the clubhouse with many residents attending to wish her all the best in her marriage.

On a delightful summer evening, 70 of our residents enjoyed "An Evening by the Pool with Elvis". This event, catered by Mission Barbeque, brought back great memories of our youthful days with so many songs we listened to during the 50's and 60's. As an added bonus we were serenaded by an additional performer who sang several Josh Groban songs. All who attended would agree that it was an evening to remember.

A beautiful picture of the storm and rainbow taken from the clubhouse car park on Tuesday August 4th.
Dear Neighbors,
What would you do if you get a sharp pain in your left shoulder or chest? Like most of you, I would have rubbed it and thought
it would go away.
On June 16th, I got these very pains.
Luckily I had my phone in my pocket and called 911. This call saved my life as I was having a heart attack. I ended up in Johns Hopkins and had surgery to repair the
damage and am now home doing very well.
I am writing this note so that it might give you a heads up and hopefully none of you will need this information but if you do,
keep this in mind.
Call 911 if you experience an unknown pain especially in you left shoulder, arm or chest. If it’s nothing but gas etc. The medics will know right away because they are a wonderful group and extremely
capable. Don’t be afraid. Joan Ryan

Do You Know The Story? Ragtime the musical is a world and society encapsulated in the three
families of E. L. Doctorow’s tale: One upper middle class WASP, one European-Jewish immigrant, and one Black who is a generation removed from slavery. Called by Time Magazine “A triumph for the stage”. This acclaimed musical is filled with pageantry, emotion and hope, bursting onto the stage like no other musical.

CAST IRON SKILLET PEACH COBBLER
It’s peach season. Sweet, juicy, luscious peaches. Yellow or white, they scream “it’s summertime” and “eat me right now!” If you can wait a little while between buying these beauties at the farmers’ market and eating them, try this cobbler. The cast iron skillet absolutely candies the peaches, sweetening them even more. And, if you ignore the butter, it’s really pretty good for you, too.
INGREDIENTS Topping:
INGREDIENTS Base:
DIRECTIONS
Topping: 1. Whisk flour, brown sugar, and salt in a medium bowl. 2. Rub in butter with your fingers until clumps form and no dry spots remain. 3. Set aside and make the “insides” of the crumble
Insides: 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. 2. Toast pecans on a rimmed baking sheet, tossing once, until slightly darkened in color, 8–10
minutes. Let cool, then coarsely chop. 3. Smear bottom and sides of a 10" cast-iron skillet with butter. 4. Toss pecans, peaches, brown sugar, granulated sugar, lemon juice, garam masala (if being
used), and salt in a large bowl to combine. 5. Transfer to skillet 6. Crumble topping, breaking up into large pieces, over
filling. 7. Bake crisp until topping is golden brown and juices are
thick and bubbling around the edges, 25–35 minutes.
The crisp can be made 1 day ahead. Store lightly covered at room temperature. It’s fast, it’s easy, it’s pretty healthy, and it’s soooooo good!!! And, in the words of the immortal Julia, Bon Appetit!
Please send your recipes to share with your neighbors through this column (editted @gmail.com)
