WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR

WELCOME to a new season at the Foote Theatre School, where we have a class for you no matter your age, interest, or level of experience!

WHAT’S NEW? • Playwriting for teens! (On page 18).

Ellen Chorley, local playwright, producer and performer, will help you find your dramatic voice. No experience necessary.

• Adult Performance Showcase – a full-year intensive course with admission by audition only. See page 8 for more information.

• We have changed the structure of our Adult Fundamentals of Acting course to accommodate your busy schedules. While the course remains a two-term class, you can now take Part 1 and Part 2 anytime! We will be offering a Part 1 and a Part 2 in every term beginning in the Winter of 2018. So you can take Part 1 this fall and then Part 2 in the Winter, or take Part 2 in the Spring. Take Part 1 in the Winter and Part 2 in the Summer – the combination is up to you. Just be sure to take both parts, in order, before moving on to our more advanced courses. See pages 6–7 for specifics.

• Performance Lab – we are pleased to partner with Azimuth Theatre in bringing a weekly drop-in class for artists of all persuasions. See page 5 for more information.

In addition to our regular acting and musical theatre classes for all ages, we are also pleased to continue offering the following courses:

The Citadel Theatre Young Companies offer an advanced training and mentorship program for aspiring artists between the ages of 16 – 21 who are serious about pursuing post-secondary education and a career in theatre.

There are four Companies, offering specialized training in: Acting, Musical Theatre, Playwriting, and Theatre Production (directing, stage managing, design and tech). The drop-in sessions will run weekly, with a blend of methodologies led primarily by Dave Horak and Amber Borotsik.

Actors, directors, creators, playwrights, dancers, performance artists, teachers, and active community members are all welcome. Although the sessions are set at a professional training level, the only prerequisite for the class is a commitment to the rigours of the work.

I Can Pretend! teaches children with autism how to play with peers and form relationships, something that children with ASD typically struggle with. Through drama, younger children learn imaginative play skills and older children hone social skills. It is a program that is based on research supporting how children with autism learn.

Created by a seasoned drama educator and parent of a child on the autism spectrum, and first piloted at Manitoba Theatre for Young People as part of a graduate study, our program uses best practice teaching for children with autism including picture schedules, familiar routines, repetition and reward.

Children currently enrolled in an intensive intervention program such as ABA, RDI or DIR/Floortime will benefit most from this program.
