INTRODUCTION
EGS is a leading international group of companies and has offices in the United Kingdom, Americas, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and throughout Asia. EGS provides global specialist multi-disciplinary support to the civil engineering, construction, telecommunications, power, maritime, hydrocarbon, dredging and mining industries.
EGS offers a full range of survey, project planning and engineering capability including:
Feasibility studies for coastal and offshore projects including provisional cable and pipeline route planning and selection
Pre survey archival studies
Design of project specific survey specifications and procedures
Terrestrial and Offshore geophysical & geotechnical survey
Pipeline and cable route engineering including burial and trenchability assessments
Survey support services to the offshore construction industry and IRM contractors
Metocean studies (short and long term)
Founded in 1974, EGS has now grown into an international network of offices. EGS also has strategic alliances with partner companies in various countries, enabling us to carry out surveys and studies virtually anywhere on the globe.
EGS has gained a reputation for professional excellence, being well known for our ability to find imaginative solutions to problems. Being proactive, we make sure that the service we provide is always tailored to satisfying our client's needs, which may explain why our reports are being hailed as setting new standards in our field.
EGS is an equal opportunity employment company that is proactive in employing a diverse spectrum of people not only from many professions but also different cultures. EGS’ large (over 350 permanent staff), multinational professional pool of staff offers a diverse experienced world-class service tailor-made to finding global solutions.
The quality of our service is complemented by our state-of-the-art survey equipment. We keep an impressive inventory at the company's regional centres. Our engineers, together with all necessary spares, can be rapidly deployed to sites to minimise downtime.
In 2005, EGS acquired their first survey vessel, the 61m class RV Ridley Thomas, which has been converted into a dedicated geophysical and cable route survey vessel based in Singapore. The purchase of the RV Ridley Thomas was followed by further vessel purchases such as the 47m long RV EGS Surveyor in 2007 and 75m long RV GEO Explorer in 2008. Additionally, EGS expanded its fleet with 2 vessels in 2010 with the RV Island Trader based in the Middle East and the RV EGS Pioneer which is positioned in North West Europe. With these vessels, EGS is now in a position to extend their survey services in the Oil & Gas sector to rig site and hazard surveys in addition to pipeline route and engineering type survey work. EGS’ expansion into the oil & gas survey market is well documented by survey successes for Woodside in Australia and BP in Indonesia.
EGS is able to provide near surface geotechnical survey services such as gravity coring, piston coring, 6m vibro coring and in-situ CPT measurements.

EGS QUALITY SYSTEM
The EGS quality system has been in effect since 1993. It received ISO 2002 accreditation in 1995, ISO 2000 accreditation in 2003 and ISO2008 accreditation in 2009. The following are some of the main features and objectives of the system, extracted from the QA procedures:
OBJECTIVES
It is the objective of EGS to provide high quality measurement services based on efficient and cost effective hydrographic, oceanographic, geophysical and related types of surveys. The surveys shall be of the highest standards to meet the needs and expectations of our clients.
TRAINING
All staff in EGS shall be trained and encouraged to contribute to the quality assurance effort, to help them maximise their personal potential and contribute to the quality objectives.
RESPONSIBILITY
To demonstrate the commitment of EGS to the principles of quality assurance, all operational responsibility for implementation of the quality policy has been delegated by the Board of Directors to the Quality Manager.
The company’s Quality Manager shall have the independence, authority and resources to check all aspects of the company’s work which affects quality. The Quality Manager shall be the Management Representative to implement the quality system. The Quality Manager will also:
Initiate preventive measures so that quality problems are less likely to occur Carry out internal audits Identify and record any problems with procedures or systems Recommend action to remove the source of problems Verify the implementation of solutions
Each member of staff is responsible for the quality of his or her own work. It is the management’s responsibility to assign work within the capabilities of the individual members of staff. For this purpose, the Office Manager maintains a file for each member of staff which records their qualifications and experience.
In the event a job is assigned but the individual member of staff does not know or understand how to carry out the work, all members of staff are authorized and required to advise their Department Head.
QUALITY SYSTEM PROCEDURES
Three main levels of documentation are included in the quality system: the quality assurance manual, procedures and records. This document is the quality assurance manual. The procedures document the steps to be followed when carrying out surveys for clients. The records document that the steps have been followed.
Both work procedures and the records are maintained according to documented procedure, to be referenced by members of staff, quality audits and the Board of Directors.
The Global Survey Force with a Personal Touch | www.egssurvey.com
- 15 - Capability Statement
QUALITY PLANNING
Quality planning is an integral part of planning of all survey projects. The quality of the results is usually equated with the resolution and accuracy of the survey results, which is incorporated into the planning and specification of survey projects
DOCUMENTATION
A list of quality systems procedures is maintained by the Quality Manager. A list of the procedures and record forms is included in the EGS Quality Manual. The procedures describe the records kept to show surveys have been carried out in accordance with the quality system.
INTERNAL AUDITS
Regular internal quality audits shall be an integral part of the quality system to ensure its consistent implementation.
CORRECTIVE ACTIONS
Corrective actions may be initiated by customer complaints, non-conformance reports, internal or external quality audits or other responsible authority. The corrective action shall aim to remove the root cause of non-conformance, to prevent recurrence of nonconformities.
Records of preventive and corrective actions shall be kept. Any changes to existing procedures shall be recorded. Both preventive and corrective actions shall be reviewed by defined authority to verify implementation, suitability and whether further preventive or corrective actions are required.
CONTROL OF QUALITY RECORDS
The Quality Manager shall be responsible for identifying, storing, filing, maintaining and eventually disposing of quality records, in accordance with documented procedures. All documents shall be legible and identifiable to the process concerned. They will be stored so that they are easily retrievable for examination by recognised authorities documented in the procedures. Quality records shall include:
Contract documents Calibration and survey data Non-conformance reports Reports on disposition of nonconforming services Records of equipment supplied by clients Training records Internal audit reports and subsequent reviews Reviews of internal audit reports by management Corrective and preventive action reports
Details of the methods, documentation and responsibilities shall be described in written works procedures.
