manifesto

To Artists We have access to use a 30ft x 50ft space to showcase work on a monthly rotation. The plan is to showcase eight artists from Camberwell College of Art and Design and four group shows throughout 2009-2010. The building itself is a Grade II listed art deco Church by architect Edward Maufe. The attraction to this building is a clean white space that has not been embellished with decoration. Planning for sponsorship for advertisement and private views is our first priority. You the artist do not need to pay to use the space, but extra advertisement, flyer, poster etc will have to be funded by the artist or group. We are not selling the work within the space itself, but this would be a good opportunity for people to see your work for future employment or commission. The first mile stone we hope to achieve within the first year is an association with another institution, PM Gallery House: West Londons premier Contemporary art space

is the closest situated gallery.

Our space: Has the use of a large, minimalist white church that can host large showcase exhibitions A free space to use, we will locally advertise and contact galleries on behalf of the artists. Any further advertisement and specialist materials will have to be funded by the artists. To promote UAL artists who are unable to curate/fund their shows due to limited resources To distinguish a foundation and centre for networking artists, institutions and communities to progress from the already over saturated independent gallery idea. Dedicated to aspiring artists who wish to promote their works in solo events. There will be a rotation of monthly artists and group shows A long term project run and co-ordinated by artists A fully functional church with weekly events and services that are a vital part of the community An exercise in communication and formality

Art has rules, believe it or not 1. We are beyond Modernism, art no longer is the rejection of history in favour of some idiosyncratic method. We as artists have to understand our art and its relation to situation. The space is first and foremost a church, it has had a long and productive

history with art, and because of this, it would be nice to retain the relationship that comes with it. Any proposed artwork exhibited that aims to insult/undermine any ideology will be rejected; all we require is sensibility and integrity. Great art may make us nervous, but it need not insult. We aim to create purpose to our work, Nihilism has no purpose. The EdwardMaufe Collection may not have a empirical philosophy, but it believes in art that is productive, not destructive. 2. All potential artists must submit a written proposal with a statement of intention of why and how they intend to use the space. Priority will be given to artists who have a large portfolio of work. 3. We will not sell work in the church, no price tags allowed. 4. We cannot provide a showcase to artists who wish to physically alter the space other than what we see possible. We are going produce innovative Curation but we wont be swinging from the bell tower for the sake of one idea, unless its a very good idea respectively. 5. Any decisions have to be passed by organisers of The EdwardMaufe Collection Contact: Jack Jones 07891034105 [email protected] This is by artists for artists, if you think you would be Beneficial to this group, jobs are available and Variable.
