Green Initiative Programs

MCAA and MSCA have developed five educational offerings designed to help your company compete successfully in the green and sustainable building marketplace. Programs provide a wide range of content, from the basics to the technical information you will need to gain your LEED accreditation. MCAA also provides green building elements in many of its other educational programs—such as the High Performance Estimating Conference—so be sure to check for detailed program information at www.mcaa.org/education.

Green 101 This unique, four-hour industry-specific course answers your most basic questions and addresses your most urgent concerns about the growing and increasingly important green building phenomenon. Designed for contractor and service professionals wanting to learn the basics of the subject, the course will cover topics such as: basic terms, definitions and technologies involving green and sustainable construction. The course is taught by Tim Wentz, associate professor at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, a registered professional engineer, a LEED Accredited Professional, a licensed heating contractor, and a licensed master plumber with more than 20 years of industry experience as a mechanical contractor. Green Awareness Training and Certificationnew for �008The Green Awareness Training and Certification program has been developed to help ensure all your company employees understand this new and emerging trend and all the new terminology, equipment, technologies and concepts associated with “green.” Special emphasis is also focused on the specification, purchase and application of energy efficient products. Industry Improvement Funds ConferenceLearn the proper use of industry improvement funds, including ideas for beneficial programs which they can sub-sidize. Labor Relations ConferenceThis program, sponsored jointly by MCAA and the UA, is aimed at strengthening communication between the two essential components of our industry—well-trained UA craftspeople and well-educated MCAA contractors. By coming together each year, representatives of labor and management carry out their industry stewardship by increasing mutual market opportunities. Estimating EssentialsIn this “working seminar,” participants will learn about issues involved in the bidding decision, the various con-tract documents, what to look for in technical specifications and plans and how to organize estimate prepara-tions. Advanced Supervisory Education Seminars These seminars are taught by John Koontz, MCAA’s national director for project management and advanced supervisory education. Claims Avoidance SeminarClaims have long been identified as one the most significant issues that face contractors, owners and architect/ engineers. Invariably, claims create an adverse environment that often prevents long-term relationships, the founda-tion of a strong company. Fundamentals of Project Management Seminars These seminars are taught by John Koontz, MCAA’s national director for project management and advanced supervisory education. John spent 15 years in a variety of positions with MCAA contractors, and then became a tenured associate professor with Purdue University’s Department of Building Construction Management.
