June is almost busting out all over and so is this months issue of the Ecton View.If you want you can have a knee’s up with an Oompah Band, celebrate theQueen’s Birthday in true Ecton style and get some fresh air and enjoy ourbeautiful country-side by going on Jude’s walk of the month. You can never say itsboring living in Ecton!
The Queen’s Birthday I know will be a lot of fun and a chance to “Wave the Flag”.It would be fantastic to have the village looking bright and shiny for the event.I would ask that everyone takes just 15 minutes to tidy up their own patch in timefor the Tea Party on 12th June.
Thanks to Jude, Bill & Sylvia for taking up the challenge of helping to keep Ectonlitter free, we still have a few free litter pickers and Norse Rubbish bags. We havesome of the village covered and would like 3-4 more volunteers to pick up onceevery week or so in West Street and Church View. Just give me a call or email ifyou can help.
For our advertiser, we are offering a leaflet drop service to all readers and e-readers of the Ecton View. If you would like details please contact myself or JaneJeyes. Big thanks to Steve and the Three Horseshoes for being our latest leafletcustomer!

St Mary Magdalene - Ecton
The month of June in the Church calendar is classed as Ordinarytime. After the celebrations of Easter, Ascension and Pentecost weenter a quieter period of time. The colour of the vestments changesto green and the Gospel readings focus on Jesus’ ministry. This givesChristians an opportunity to grow in faith as we hear how Jesus andhis disciples lived and preached the Good News. Green then is an appropriate colour, signifying growth, and June in the garden is certainly a time for growth. I’m sure theweeds in the Rectory garden are competing with the plants to see which can grow thetallest!
This year, however, in June we have a great national celebration in honour of the Queenwho is celebrating her 90th birthday and The Church of England has produced a specialprayer to be used at celebration events.
Heavenly Father,as we celebrate the ninetieth birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, receive our heartfelt thanksfor all that you have given her in these ninety yearsand for all that she has given to her people.Continue, we pray, your loving purposes in her,and as you gather us together in celebration, unite us also in love and service to one another;through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Queen is well known for her Christian faith and in her Christmas Broadcast she oftenspeaks about the strength she draws from knowing Jesus as her Saviour. In a bookproduced by the Bible Society The Servant Queen and the King she serves the Queen’s lifeand faith are shown to be inextricably bound together with both growing as herexperiences and years pass. She talks of Jesus as being her role model, anchor andinspiration. I have a copy of the book if you would like to borrow it and copies areavailable from the Bible Society’s website www.biblesociety.org.ukIf you would like to know more about the faith which sustains the Queen, please docontact me.Yours in Christ,Revd. ECTON SAFARI SUPPER -Saturday 8th October
(in aid of Ecton Village Hall & Ecton Church)
How does it work? All the guests go on safari, moving from house tohouse between courses. The evening will begin at 7.30pm as we all meettogether in one house for a pre-dinner drink and canapés. Everyone thenmoves to different houses - with different groups of people - for eachcourse. The evening will end with everyone together again for cheese, coffee and port.
Who can take part? Everyone! It’s a great way to meet friends andneighbours – particularly if you are new to Ecton.
What do I have to do? It’s up to you. We do need some people to host amain course or a pudding for 8 people, or to bring a plate of canapés tothe pre-dinner drinks house, but there will be spaces for those whowould prefer not to be hosts. It’s not a cookery competition – simplefood is fine! (There will be a financial contribution for the food and winefor those people hosting a main course or a pudding). Any profits will besplit between Ecton Village Hall and Ecton Church. We are also looking for someone to host the canapés at the start of theevening and someone else to host the cheese and coffee at the end. Please let us know if you are able to help.
What does it cost? Tickets are £15 per person.

The day in the life of a sheep!
The sheep are in the field outside my homeThey have plenty of fields in which to rummage and roam
Creatures of habit they really areWhen its feed time, they don’t venture far
It is so lovely to watch how they plan their dayThese sheep are the best mums in every way
The day starts usually when they awake in the field nearest to meThe lambs have been snuggled with mum – so lovely wouldn’t you agree
As the sun breaks through the hazeThe sheep seem to know it is time to graze
One by one they make an orderly line to the field near the laneHere there are trees for shelter in case of the occasional rain
The lambs rest right up close to the fence for the rest of the dayThey occasionally gambol and have a good play
Whilst their doting mothers graze keeping a watchful eyeEspecially when walkers with dogs go by
As the sun begins to setYou start to hear the lambs begin to fret
They know that David the farmer will come with his truckHe will come with some grain by any luckThey seem to know when he opens the gateThey run so fast – they don’t want to be late
The truck pulls up and the feeder is fullNo longer do they need to jump on top of it or give it a pull
The truck then drives to fill the next one alongThe lambs call in the air as if singing a song
They run behind the moving truckWith a squelch and a thud it drives through the muck
Once the feeders are full, the farmers job is doneThe lambs then wait for the going down of the sun
Their day has been so full of funLambs calling their mums fills the chill night with a humSoon they will be curled up together and joined as one!
