The driver of a vehicle is responsible for the vehicle assigned to him/her. Follow these regulations when operating a vehicle on company business:

• Operate vehicle in a safe and courteous manner at all times. • Immediately report safety defects in writing to a Supervisor. • Do not knowingly operate a vehicle that has a safety defect. • If you have been convicted of a felony involving a motor vehicle

used to transport or store illegal amphetamines, narcotics or other illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia you will not be allowed to operate a company vehicle or another vehicle on company business.

• Operating a company vehicle or any other vehicle on company business while under the influence of an illegal drug or while having a blood alcohol content in excess of the legal limit is prohibited.

• No employee will operate a company vehicle or any other vehicle on company business while under the influence of any medicine that has a specific warning against operating machinery or driving.

• All employees must have a valid State driver’s license for the State in which they reside.

• Driver will provide proof of insurance and a valid license when asked.

Firearms, ammunition, explosives or other dangerous

weapons may not be stored or transported in any vehicle

while the employee is engaged in company business.

purposes only.• Remove ignition keys from an unattended vehicle.

• Use the seat belt/shoulder harness at all times

while operating the vehicle. NO EXCEPTIONS!

• Report all vehicle accidents your Supervisor. • Stay at the scene of an accident unless you need medical attention. • Always show courtesy towards the general public. • Keep company vehicles clean. • Report receiving a citation while on

company business to the Supervisor. • Properly tie or strap down cargo. • Do not ride in a vehicle that is

being towed by another

vehicle.

Many workers are at high risk of injury and death from traffic-related motor vehicle crashes. About three workers die from these crashes each day.

If you manage or supervise drivers, insure the following:• Never allow an employee to drive if they are fatigued • Be familiar with the maintenance procedures for all vehicle

systems. • Conduct driver's license background checks before hiring

drivers. • Provide vehicles with seat belts for the driver and every

passenger, and require their use. • Train drivers to properly use vehicle safety features. • Proper maintenance of all vehicle systems. • Adopt the U.S. Department of Transportation regulations for

commercial motor carriers as part of your motor vehicle safety program.

If you work or employ workers who work in construction or maintenance zones • Wear or require workers to wear high

visibility clothing. • Use or require the use of barriers and

traffic control efforts when working on or

near public roads.

What To Do In the Event of an Accident• Stop at once to investigate and call the police. Call an ambulance or

doctor if necessary. • Take all necessary precautions to prevent further accidents, damages or

injuries: use triangular warning reflectors, flares or emergency flashers. • DO NOT sign anything. • Completed an accident report at the scene

of an accident. • Information that may be required to be

released to other parties: – Your name. – Your driver’s license number. – Your address and phone number. – Your employer, employer’s address

and phone number. – Proof of Vehicle Liability Insurance.

• NEVER admit liability or fault, even if you feel at fault.

• DO NOT give a written statement

to anyone unless approved by a

company management or the

company insurance representative.

• ALWAYS obtain names and

addresses of other drivers,

passengers or pedestrians,

along with insurance company information, including policy numbers

and insurance company address and telephone numbers.

What To Do In the Event of an Accident• ALWAYS obtain names and addresses of owners of property damaged.

• ALWAYS obtain witness names and addresses regardless of their version of the accident. If the witness refuses to give their name, get their license plate number.

• DO NOT argue at the scene of the accident. Be courteous and willingly share your license and insurance information.

• DO NOT move damaged vehicles unless it is absolutely necessary to prevent further damage or personal injury, or unless

directed to do so by a police officer. • DO NOT stop for an accident in which your vehicle

is not involved unless your help is needed.

• NEVER offer financial aid to anyone involved in an accident in which you are a party, even if you feel you are at fault.

• DO NOT operate a wrecked vehicle unless it is absolutely safe to do so.
