I can't believe that May is almost over! The Eta State Convention in Chapel Hill, "Dare to Lead", was truly a wonderful experience. Our chapter received the Excellent Award, an award for our newsletter, and an award for our website. The breakout sessions were hard to choose between, but I have some wonderful information for the fall meeting in September. The Eta State Convention is in Winston Salem next year so please think about attending. Even if it is just for the Saturday sessions you will be in for a treat! Make sure that you are saving the money for your dues as we will collect them at our September and October meetings. The banquet on May 5 was a special event. We inducted five new members this year! I am excited to work with our new members on some of the projects that were discussed at convention. Beta Omicron and Beta Xi did a wonderful job on the banquet this year. Everything was wonderful. Registration for the Leadership Conference is under way. Please consider attending this conference in June at William Peace University. More information is available on the Eta State website. Greetings Chi Sisters!

I can't believe that May is almost over! The Eta State Convention in Chapel Hill, "Dare to Lead", was truly a wonderful experience. Martha Alley attended her 50th college reunion (Class of 1965 Lenoir Rhyne College Hickory, NC) on April 24-25. The weather was cold and rainy. But it really was a fun week-end.

Betsy Hodge took a trip to Texas during April. She visited the Delta Kappa Gamma Headquarters in Austin and was given an informative tour of the offices and collections there. New video equipment was being installed to show events taking place in

individual chapters. It was enlightening to be there and see where DKG planning of events begins.

Glenn and I have been married for forty-four years. We met on a blind date through mutual friends. Our first date was in February and we were married on July 31st of that year. Our first home was an apartment in High Point and then we moved to Thomasville. We have lived in our current Davidson County home for almost thirty years. One of our proudest moments was when we adopted Jonathan and brought him home to be part of our family. We now have one grandchild, Aedan, who is ten years old, and a blessing to us. I feel like one of my strengths is being organized. Lots of times, I will feel the urge to get things in order. I am not sure if this is a gift or a curse! Probably one of my weaknesses is being too independent for my own good. I often will do things myself and not use someone's help that has been offered. Whatever comes my way, I feel like I can do it! Glenn and I have enjoyed antiques with some being family pieces from past generations that we now have in our home. We have collected and added pieces, but our collecting days are over since we have no more room at our home nor our mountain house in Virginia. We have enjoyed going to the mountains through the years. One of my favorite authors is Nicholas Sparks. The Notebook is one movie that I have seen many times and always manage to have a few tears appear. The Road to Rodanthe and The Best of Me are also great! Downton Abbey on PBS is a show I have enjoyed watching. I just wish they would have more episodes!

2015 Eta State Convention

“Dare to Lead” – April 24 – 26, 2015

The theme of the Pre-Convention Conference was “Leadership

Matters…Especially for Women,” using Linda Tarr-Whelan’s

book Women Lead the Way…Your Guide to Stepping Up to

Leadership and Changing the World.

President Patricia Taylor opened the FRIDAY afternoon

annual Executive Board Meeting at the Chapel Hill Sheraton

to conduct the business of the Society. Assembled were

presidents representing 104 chapters from eleven regions,

totaling 4226 members. Presidents received a three volume

set of Delta Kappa Gamma in North Carolina (1989, 1998, and

2009) for chapter libraries. During the weekend the following

announcements were made:

The Educational Foundation Board of Directors

announced:

o that IRS has approved the Eta State 501 (C)

(3) educational foundation,

o that pledges for the “100 Challenge” totaled

$16,270.00 and that the board members had

raised $5,620.00 in donations,

international websites are to be enhanced soon.

Eta State chapters gave $77,809.00 in grants-in-aid

and $9,931.94 in scholarships during the year ending

June 30, 2014.

changes in spring.

The Fall Executive Board meeting will be at Elon

University on September 12, 2015.

The 2016 convention will be at the Embassy Suites,

Winston-Salem, on April 22-24 (Region IX). Many,

represented. Chi Chapter

received certificates of excellence

for the newsletter and for the

website. Within the list of Chapter

Achievement Awards Chi

Chapter made the excellent

chapters earned the superior

level, and five earned the

Presidential Achievement Award.

On SATURDAY MORNING the Headquarters Committee’s

annual tradition of “Passing the House” netted $1668.10,

according to Patsyanna Barker, Chairman. Fifty per cent of

the chapters in the state budget two dollars per member every

State budget. Chi Chapter does this. The Fund is in great

need of donations at this time.

workshops divided into sixty minute sessions. Chi Chapter

sold forty-seven quilted badge holders for a total of $470.00

for scholarships.

On SATURDAY NIGHT Tonya Welch was recognized as one

of the chapter presidents. There were no scholarship winners

for 2015, and the committee solicited applications for next

year. There have been 131 Eta State scholarships from 1955

that have totaled over $378,000.00. Becky Sadowski,

International Society Representative, celebrated the

accomplishments of our state organization (20 Golden Gift

members, 59 International scholarships totaling over $300,000,

17 Cornetet winners in the last five years) and gave a bigger

picture of our Society: 84,000 members from 2500 chapters in

President Pat’s Message

“Life Changing Power” In her President’s Message this month, President Pat talks about the excitement, anticipation, and energy she’s been a part of in recent visits to chapters and at the state convention. She says, “Every gathering with our DKG sisters is an opportunity to experience this same energy! After all, at each Delta Kappa Gamma event, we are networking with key women educators, some of the most highly educated and recognized women in the field of education. How often does this happen? As a result, some life changing opportunities can arise.” She lists some specific examples and challenges us to always let our light of sisterhood and leadership shine.
