D ear all Teachers play a vital role in the lives of their students and often make a differ-ence without even knowing it. The Dedi-
cated Teacher Awards from Cambridge Learning is a global competition in which a student can nomi-nate a primary or secondary teacher for something memorable for what he or she has done. The stu-dent narrates a story to the world a story about why that teacher is so important! Here is one of the nominations that the Cambridge received for me:
Growing up with a speech impediment, I can promise you that I was not a fan of reading out loud in English class. Naturally, I hated the class. But in grade 7, we had a new Eng-lish teacher. When she got to know about my speech impediment, she stayed back with me after school hours and we worked on it. She continued to help me until I got a distinction in Trinity’s Speech examination – something I would have never imagined. She saw that I had a passion in storytelling and with her support and guidance; I wrote short stories and even acted in a few plays in school. Before her, a lot of people questioned if I should continue normal schooling. Now I’m pursuing an undergraduate degree in an-other country. A large part of my identity owes a lot to her faith in me. Picking just six finalists was an incredibly difficult task for the panel of judges, but they have made their final decision. I am delighted to tell you that I am one of the final 6 of the Dedicated Teacher Awards 2020. We Six Finalists will appear on a thank you page at the front of the new Cambridge textbooks from May 2020. An invitation to join their exclu-sive online community of teachers, as well as inclusion in their 2021 catalogues for the world to see. Navigate into the Cambridge Dedicated Teachers Awards’ site. The game is not over! Decid-ed by a public vote, one lucky winner will be named ‘World’s Most Dedicated Teacher’ for 2020! We will share the link with you on Managebac. The voting starts soon! Please vote for India to showcase the ‘World’s Most Dedicated Teacher’ for 2020! MEERA RANGARAJAN

“In play, a child always behaves beyond his average age, above his daily behavior. In play it is as though he
were a head taller than himself.”
-Lev Vygotsky 1896–1934 Russian psychologist

K1 students participated in an interactive learning engagement where they
were presented with 1 to 50 number cards. The students of both sections were asked to
pick up a card of their choice. They read their selected card’s number out aloud and
stood in a line according to the order of their numbers. Through this learning engage-
ment the students learnt recognition and sequencing of numbers. This activity not only
enhanced their math skills but also the students’ social, collaborative and critical think-
ing skills. All in all this activity was a fun!

K1B learners were engrossed in a creative activity in the lap of nature. They went
on a Scavenger Hunt where they collected pebbles, colorful marbles, twigs,
stones, dry leaves, fallen flowers, sticksand so on in the outdoor nature area.
They were also given these open-ended materials and given the freedom of
choice to showcase their creativity. Each child gathered these materials and cre-
ated artistic designs and patterns using them like birds, butterflies, slides in a
park, ladybird beetle, flowers, bridges, gardens, snakes, insects, monsters, smi-
leys and so on. They had a gala time collecting and creating these unique and
beautiful artifacts. This activity enhanced their creative skills, developed their
cognitive abilities and gave them a chance to work with and amongst nature!

As a part of learning, students of Grade 2 visited the Dashmesh Darbar Gurudwara - a
sacred place of worship of the Sikhs. Students learnt about the rich Sikh culture, its
tradition the script and witnessed the raagis (who sing Ragas) and explain, the verses
from the Guru Granth Sahib, in the presence of the worshipers. It was a day well
spent with lots to learn and lots to wonder about.

We plan our lessons based on students' learning styles. Also, we group stu-

manage our classrooms where we create a safe and supportive environ-

IPM also known as the INSTITUTE FOR PROMOTION OF MATHEMATICS is a mathe-matics field in which students from grade 2 to 9 can learn mathematics of higher lev-el than their grade. IPM gives us a jumpstart on concepts of topics such as Algebra, Bodmas, Unitary Method, and Equations. It also helps us to revise the advanced Mul-tiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction. There are exams held every year in April and only some students are qualified to go to the next level of Mega Final which includes the same syllabus but with complex questions. Last year’s IPM certificates were held to the RBKIA students on 13/01/2020, Monday.

On Wednesday the 8th of January 2020 we had a presentation by Mr. Arshad Shaikh, Regional Admissions officer from Ashoka University. His presentation was focused on Liberal Education, commonly referred to as Liberal Arts Education. The major factor differentiating this approach from the traditional one was the ability of the student to select their pathway in meeting the requirements for the award of the degree. Ashoka University is a pioneer in its focus on providing a liberal education at par with the best in the world. The aim at Ashoka is to help students become well-rounded individuals who can think critically about issues from multiple perspec-tives, communicate effectively and become leaders with a commitment to public service. An Ashoka education carries a strong emphasis on foundational knowledge, thorough academic research based on rigorous pedagogy, and hands-on experience with real-world challenges. The 1400 students on campus, drawn from over 28 states and 98 cities in India as well as 17 other countries, receive a world-class interdisciplinary education through undergraduate and post-graduate programmes led by internationally renowned faculty. The students attending the session were intrigued by the model and many filled the enquiry forms in order to get further information from the college. Devanssh Shah IBDP 1
