TRANSCRIPT
The days may be getting shorter but the fishing goes on and some excellent catches are being recorded. Take a look…..
What a nailbiting wait it was for anglers finishing top of the leader board after the first day of
the Durban Ski-Boat Festival recently.
Gerard Blignaut barely slept a wink – wondering whether a bigger fish, than his 28.15kg Couta,
would snatch away his prized first spot.
Relief and jubilation followed the news that Rowan Coleman’s 26.20kg beauty was next in line
on Day 2, and Gerard was finally declared the winner. He was the envy of every angler, winning
the top prize - consisting of a Yamaha powered SeaCat, a Lowrance Elite-9x, as well as loads of
other goodies.
After the first day of this popular event was cancelled due to inclement weather, the 827
fishermen (in 311 boats) were delighted when they finally got the green flag to “go fishing” on
the Sunday!
Among the total 116 fish caught were 87 Couta averaging 14.9kg.Other species included: 10
Bonito, 12 Yellowfin Tuna, six Queenfish and 16 Dorado. Frans Badenhorst took the Junior prize
with a Couta of 16.85kg and Fahmida Shaik’s 13.50kg Couta clinched the Ladies prize.
Our team enjoyed meeting up with anglers and familiar faces in the industry - many of whom
are old friends of Lowrance.
We had the latest units on display and lots of fisherman came to inspect them and used the
opportunity to ask questions.

NEW Waterwolf Accessories:
Just in …. There are new accessories available for the Waterwolf camera,
including the very exciting bottom-fishing kit (for carp fishing).
Have you ever wondered what goes on below the water? Our Waterwolf
camera becomes your eyes on your rigs - whether trolling, casting, float or
bottom rig carp fishing.
See how fish react to your bait and rigs!
The new bottom-fishing kit is used in conjunction with the Water Wolf camera, for recording stationary rigs on the bottom.
The patented drop off lead system ensures fish safety, and gives you a chance to retrieve the camera even in case of the
mainline breaking on the cast.
• Easy click on, allows you to change camera in seconds.
• Attach it to your fishing line and cast out, or use a bait-boat.
• Control the amount of tension needed before the lead drops off, and the camera floats.
Casts well and falls straight through the water, and lands on the lead every time.
What’s included in the bottom-fishing kit:
1. Polycarbonate Water Wolf body mount
2. Base weight 75g
3. Tapered rubber sleeve (2x)
4. Quick change pins (2x)

FABULOUS FISHING
Well done to Chris Hill for this good mixed bag caught from his Stealth paddle ski off the
North Coast.

Great catches:
There’s just no stopping him!
Top paddle-ski angler and Lowrance Brand
Ambassador, Roscoe Rautenbach, keeps on catching …
taking full advantage of his Elite 4 Chirp unit!
He’s caught lots of fish off Umhlanga - including this
Yellowfin Tuna (pictured right).
He recently fished the Umgeni Kayak Fishing Club (UKFC) ski competition – in which 84 Anglers took part
– fishing from Umhlanga to Zinkwazi.
It took Roscoe just 45 minutes to land three good Cuda (in the last hour of the competition) – after using
his Elite 4 Chirp to show their depth and downrigging his bait accordingly.
The biggest of his haul had to be handed to a fellow angler to bring to shore as his fish hatch was so full!
“It was insane fishing to say the least!”
The top four spots (allocated to different species) were awarded for the heaviest Cuda, Tuna, Snoek and
Kingfish. Roscoe biggest was 22,3kg (just 200 grams shy of the fish which took first place) - but due to
the competition rules he ended in fifth place.

Y-BASS
Team Lowrance is currently top of the charts in the popular Y-Bass series of competitions
being held monthly!
After the fourth event of the season held at Inanda Dam last weekend, Eugene and
teammate Gareth Potgieter head the field with 23.108 points.
This follows their success at Midmar Dam last month where they came in second with a
four- fish bag weighing in at 4.432kgs. This earned them the 2nd heaviest bag prize of R4
000.
(At the same event - Neil Button took the Lowrance big fish prize with his 3.364 kilogram
beauty. The next biggest fish was 1.925kg!)
Neil Button caught the biggest fish in
the Midmar Dam leg of the
competition last month.
Team Lowrance will be determined to keep the momentum going as the series
progresses, with Team Yamaha (21.237 points) snapping at their heels to snatch the
coveted first place.
Congratulations to Morne du Plessis who won our R1 000 cash prize for a Lowrance
owner - with his catch of 3.905 kgs.
His fishing partner, Tommy Rainbird, landed the second biggest fish of the day weighing
in at 2.330 kgs.

CROCKANGO BONANZA
These competitors were quite clear about their support for Lowrance
during the 2016 Crockango Angling Bonanza.
Team E.S.B Boats Mercury were spotted on the Kavango River which
separates Angola and Namibia and pours into the Okavango Delta in
Botswana.
This Species competition targets Tigerfish, Breem (including 3-Spot and
Nembwe), Barbel and Squeakers and attracts around 300 anglers from
Namibia, Botswana, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Fishing started from 6am to 5pm each day – and anglers often travel as far as 130kms downstream to fish their favourite spots.
At stake is a magnificent boat, motors and trailer from Aliboats - one of our Lowrance dealer’s in Botswana.
BRAND AMBASSADORS - REEL ‘EM IN!
Lowrance brand ambassador Mark de la Hey from Reel Africa has
been busy.
Look at the Marlin he’s caught recently.
A Black Marlin caught off KZN in April and this beauty on Sunday.
Watch Mark on Wednesdays on Reel Africa on Super Sport 8.
Morne du Plessis won himself
R1000 from Lowrance SA
A recent fishing trip along the North Coast saw some great catches from Lowrance brand
ambassador Brett Bartho - who proudly shows off this huge 35.2 kg Yellowfin Tuna, caught off
Zinkwazi,in just 15m water.
Having spent the morning further out catching a number of nice-sized Couta and some small
Tuna– Brett, brother Darryl and their friend decided to move closer inshore. Before long the
fight was on and this beauty was landed at about 3.30 that afternoon.
Brett says they made good use of their HDS 8 Gen 2 and HDS 7 units – swearing by Lowrance as
– ‘the only brand we use and trust’! “We’ve used Lowrance units ‘forever’ – starting with an
LMS 240 when we were youngsters fishing with our grandfather Leo King. We progressed to an
LCX- 37 combo unit which we used for years and this helped us win our first couple of competitions!”
Brett recently went on a surfing holiday in the Maldives – and of course he managed to squeeze in some fishing – catching a
12kg Wahoo. Nothing stops an avid angler!

WHAT WE DO FOR FUN
Our bookkeeper Michelle Botha is an avid rugby and cricket fan.
She’s a huge Sharks supporter and if she’s not at the games at Durban Stadium,
you’ll find her in front of the TV screaming her head off – especially if they’re losing!
Her favourite rugby player is J P Petersen.
She prefers the 20-over cricket matches – David Miller is her hero - and she’s
looking to catch one of those R1-million sixes soon!
Michelle and her husband Allen (who loves fishing) and sons Dylan and Jordan also enjoy bike riding along the beachfront
promenade – from UShaka to the Umgeni Bird Park.
In between these time consuming activities, she is also studying for her Financial Accounting diploma.
JOHN’S TIP
Installing units to boats
Wire size 2.5 mm (my preference - silicone stainless coated)
Heat shrink and solder all wires. DO NOT TWIST WIRES TOGETHER. Use proper connections.
Always use recommended fuses on all 12v devices.
All devices must go through a switch panel, never connect it direct to the battery.
If the fuse blows do not replace it with a bigger one, there is a reason it has a recommend size, rather find the fault to
protect your unit.
