Great Work Last week I had the opportunity to visit K/1H and K/1G during the daily 5. I saw students fishing for words and doctors were putting words back together. I also visited 2/3W and gave every student a dojo point as their behaviour and work habits were excellent. I spent some time in 3/4G who were showing me how they were making structures to support the weight of books and Hannah from 1K showed me the carrots that were harvested from her class gar-den. I had some students visit to show me their great work. Kurt from 3/4G dropped in to tell me he has jumped 5 reading levels, Kara 2/3W shared her neat handwriting and Hayley, Millie and Jack 2T showed me their Mr Twit descriptive writing. Well done guys, keep up the great work. Kindergarten Orientation Last week it was great to meet our 2014 Kindergarten students and their parents. Our second Kindergarten Orientation session will be this Wednesday 6th November from 9:30pm-11:00am in the hall. Parents will be provided with information about attendance, Best Start and school banking. The 2014 Kindergarten students will have the opportunity to meet 2013 Kindergarten students and their Year 5 buddies. Our last Kin-dergarten Orientation visit will be on Wednesday 20th November 10:30am-12:05pm.

Morisset High School Video Conferencing Last Thursday our Stage 3 students participat-ed in a video conference with Dora Creek, Bonnells Bay, Morisset Public School and Morisset High School. The teachers presented a PD/Health/PE lesson to the students and used ‘Bridget’ to show a powerpoint and a vid-eo of programs offered at the high school. Mega raffle The P&C have planned an end of year MEGA RAFFLE to raise money for the school. We are asking that each family donate a prize for our raffle between the value of $5.00 - $15.00 and that it be new or store bought. Prizes could include games, toys, novelty items, stationery items, gift vouchers etc. We would also appreciate prizes from any interested community groups who are able to donate. We are aiming again for over 100 prizes. The more prizes we receive the more successful our fundraiser will be and the more we will be able to give away to the students the day the raffle is drawn. Each student in the school will receive a book of 5 tickets which will be sold for $5. Extra raffle tickets are availa-ble from the front office. Raffle tickets and money are to be returned to the class teacher before Thursday 12th December 2013. The MEGA RAFFLE will be drawn at Wyee Public School on Friday 13th December 2013 at 12:05pm in the school hall and parents are welcome to attend. Your support is greatly appreciated and will help make our fundraiser a success. LMG P&C Meeting The next LMG P&C Meeting is at Morisset High School on Tuesday the 26th of November from 6pm to 8pm. Please RSVP by Monday the 18th of November. Debating Last week our debating team of Tahlia, Annalise, Maya and Kaiyah debated against Wangi Wangi Public School. We had to debate the negative side of “single gender classes improve student achievement of outcomes”. While our students didn’t win, we were very competi-tive. Thank you to Miss Kettlewell for judging the debate and to Mrs Godfrey for coordinating debating this year. Update Information Through the course of the year, families have relocated, had new phone numbers and have different emergency contact details. If you have relocated and have different contact details can you please provide them to the school so our records are up to date. Year 5 Singing Last week 5C entertained the school singing ‘Keep On’. The song was from Music Count me in Too and was sung nationally at 12:00 last Thursday. Well done 5C. Year 6 Ice-cream Fundraiser On Tuesday 12 November, Year 6 will be holding an ice-cream fundraiser to raise mon-ey for the Year 6 Farewell. Ice-creams will be sold at lunchtime for $1. Swimming Scheme We have one place left in the Special Swimming Scheme, if you would like your child to participate please send in an expression of interest. Thank you to Matt Naylor for locating volunteer drivers for the buses over the two weeks of the swimming scheme.

Hunter Maths Competition Our Stage 3 students completed the Hunter Maths Competition. We achieved 2 Distinctions and 9 students achieved Merit Certificates. Well done to Harry, Jay, Aaron, Bryce, Sarah, Cassie, Georgie-Lee, Jack and Dannielle who achieved certificates of Merit and congratulations to Matthew and Nikki-Lee for achieving Distinctions, a great result. It may seem like every week there is a new game they want to play, and the cinema always has something showing. This website gives detailed reviews on most films and games, including information about the types of messages, role models, violence, language, consumer-ism and drug use in the content, as well as skills they may learn from participating. Every child is different, and this can help you decide based on your relationship with your child. - Talk with your child about it before, during and after they watch or play. Some helpful questions may include: Why do you want to watch/play it? What makes it cool? What is the goal of the game? how do you achieve it? How do the main characters solve problems? What is important to the characters in this? What are the consequences for doing the wrong thing? Your child's answers will help you determine if the content fits with the values and behaviours you want your child to learn. It can be helpful to hire a game or movie before you buy it, to enable you make an informed choice. Understand what children want and need from their parent/caregivers

Children want and need boundaries set by their parent/caregivers in much the same way as society needs laws. Children need to know that those boundaries are consistently applied and the consequences of defying the rules are applied, not in anger but fairly. Children also need to know their parent /caregivers support them. Support does not mean parent / caregivers accept everything the child says as truth. We all know peo-ple can shade the truth to suit their purpose or perception. Trying to be your child’s best friend often means they have no adult to count on when they need one.

Encourage fairness

When children see their parent/caregivers treating others with disrespect when angry, they learn from exam-ple that the way to deal with their anger is to do the same. When they see their parent/caregivers treat others unfairly, they learn that unfairness is OK as long as you are the one being unfair, not when you are the recipi-ent. Respect, fairness and integrity are encouraged through good role models. Your child will learn to respect other people by seeing you do the same. They’ll accept the staff’s decisions when they see you value the staff and accept their decisions.

Keep your emotions in check

As an adult you should leave the stress and tension of daily life behind when dealing with your son/daughter. Concentrate on the bigger picture and which of YOUR characteristics you most want your child to emulate. If you want your child to copy your calmness and non-judgemental attitudes, then this is what you need to show them.

Outright bad behaviour, such as losing your temper, swearing or aggression is totally unacceptable. It will em-barrass your child and sets a poor example.

Respect the staff

Staff at schools play an essential role in providing a positive educational experience for children. Without them there would be little or no educational or behavioural progress for your child so they need to be treated with respect and courtesy. If you want to see or speak to a staff member, please make an appointment through the front office.

Uphold the ‘CODE OF CONDUCT’

It is important that you uphold this Parent/Caregiver’s Code of Conduct. Any person contravening the code of conduct would be setting a very bad example to their child and the provisions of the Enclosed Lands Protection Act (1901) and its Amendments may be evoked. Should issues arise in relation to students, parents and staff, please bring them to the attention of the Principal. Your cooperation is sought in making a safe and happy school.
