the cup and the spoon

As the spoon moved by the cup,


It tapped against it’s side.



It made a lovely, ringing noise.

“That note is my sound,”

the cup cried.

The teapot said,

“It’s nice to have a sound,

The teapot said,


I hope I have one as well.”

The teapot said,



The spoon tapped the side of the teapot.

It sounded like a bell.

The dish, sugarbowl, knife and fork were next.


They all gave out a clear ringing sound.



But when the spoon hit the table,

It just made a dull thud, they found.

They tried a very soft cushion,


And found it made no sound at all.



Then a man outside with a big hammer,

They heard a very low rumble.


“That is my sound,” said the wall.

And for that wood and fabric are no good.”

“Things made of metal or ceramic,”


Said the piano, “Are stiff and can vibrate.”



“The table and the cushion are too soft.
