CATHOLIC SCHOOL
MATTERS!
Students are wrapping up their studies over
the next few weeks! Please keep
them in your prayers!
Times
The continuity and preservation of
Catholic culture and philosophy will
necessitate the re-promulgation of the
classics into the heart of Catholic edu-
cation and living. The new evangeli-
zation should play an important role
in this. After all, in Confessions, Augus-
tine stated that reading Virgil and Cic-
ero had brought him to belief in God.
Beauty is the brilliance of truth, and as
Augustine said, “All truth belongs to
God.” And we know where that road
ultimately ends.
--Paul Krause, “A Defense of Beauty and Excel-
lence from the Classical Tradition,” Crisis Mag-
azine (May 17, 2017)

Austin Prochko, Class of 2012 and
Hillsdale 2016 graduate, came in to
substitute one day this week! Send-
ing him off are Mrs. Treviño and
Mrs. Joiner.
Baseball Playoffs last weekend!
Crusaders placed 3rd in the baseball state tourna-
ment in Houston this past weekend. Also, Shawn
(above, right) was awarded "All Tournament Player.”
Some of our students at
Junior-Senior Prom at Eilan
last weekend!
On behalf of the Crusader Booster Club, thank you to all
the Atonement families, teachers, and friends who came
out to support the Second Annual Crawfish Boil!
It is safe to say that it was a huge success.
Families were eating and dancing, kids got their face
painted or jumped in the Bouncy, or just helped “clean”
the crawfish in the kiddie pool. Everyone had a great time.
I would like to thank Gus Rodriguez with Hammer
Strength for their generous donation. We also want to
thank our friends at H.E.B. on Bandera & 1604 for their
support. We wouldn’t have had face painting without the
work of talented Atonement parent Mrs. Christine O’Bri-
en. The Dopp family help get things jumping by donating
the Bouncy and T-shirts.
I personally want to thank all the Booster Club members
who came out to help set-up, serve, clean-up or donate
baked goods. Thank you to the Schott family, Semrad
family and friends, Echols family, Dopp family, Cantu fami-
ly, Matthews family, Berlanga family, Musquiz family,
Jones family, Groh family, Flores family, Wick family, as
well as Xavier Cantu and Cliff Roberson.
Thank you to all the Honor Society kids who helped set up
and to all the non-Booster club parents who donated tasty
baked goods. Without all of your help, this would not have
been possible. If you missed out, you’ll just have to wait
until 2018.
God bless,
Brian Schott

to join outstanding High School students from around
the world and is proud to represent The Atonement

the United Nations Security Council as she investi-
gates, debates, and seeks solutions to the vital chal-
lenges facing our world and our future. She will visit
some of the most important diplomatic institutions
such as the US State Department in Washington, D.C.
and the United Nations in New York City.
We wish Ana a safe and fun trip and look forward to
hearing all about it when she returns.

Last week’s MS & US Concert featured
presentations to Pastor Emeritus Father
Phillips as well as to music director Je-
sus DeHoyos by the graduating seniors.
Many of the choral pieces were lovely,
a few were ambitious, and once the
Honors Choir was on stage, they were
definitely crowd pleasers! On Tuesday
night, our 3rd through 5th grades capti-
vated the Atonement community audi-
ence, too. Two of the presentations
included student conductors, too: 3rd
grader Heaven Villarreal and 5th grader
Isabella Restrepo! Well done!
It’s Choral Concert Season!
The results were tallied and Crusaders came through to help raise funds for our “Sister School” in Jifna, in the Holy Land! We raised a total of $5,311.12 ($3,274.57 in the last week)! Top ranking class was Mrs. Czech’s 4th grade girls, but please acknowledge Mrs. Wiessing’s 5th grade boys in a special way, as the raised the most over all: $818.71. Heavy sabotage kept them out of the top three! The top three classes are as follows: 1st – Mrs. Czech 4th grade girls 2nd – Mrs. Cisneros 1st grade 3rd – Miss Donohue 4th grade boys Thank you to both Mr. & Mrs. James (Freddie and Sara’s parents) for all their hard work on the set up, collecting, storing, and counting! You are wonderful assets to our Atonement family!

Communications
and Social Media
We have been cautious about jumping on the
social media bandwagon, but we are convinced
that it is one way to maintain a presence with
our families and prospective families! You
control how much or how little personal infor-
mation appears! Even if you use a Facebook
account solely for purposes of communicating
with school families, we encourage you to do
so. Our school has a Facebook page (look for
The Atonement Academy), and our PTC main-
tains Atonement Exchange for quick commu-
niques with families as well as for a uniform and
textbook marketplace. We have posted several
videos you might enjoy, too!
THE CLASS OF 2017
