Dear Friends and Guests,

Thank you for joining us this weekend. We love people at The Crossing Church, that’s why the third principle of our vision is People: We see a church compassionately loving people. Everything that we say and do is because God has commanded us to “love our neighbors as ourselves.” We pray that you will make our church a home for you and your family.

Sincerely,Greg and Tamara Dumas Lead Pastor

THE VISIONPeople1 Timothy 2:1-6Luke 15:1-7 Lead Pastor: Greg Dumas

WELCOME TO THE CROSSING CHURCH

SCRIPTURE

1 Timothy 2:1-6 (NIV) 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.

Luke 15:1-7 (NIV)1 Now the tax collectors and “sinners” were all gathering around to hear him. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” 3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

• The term repentance means “to change your mind, heart, or attitude.”

• A connection of love and compassion is able to draw anyone to Christ.

• Personal and corporate faith abound in the context of a hope filled community.

• The church must see beyond social stigmas, races, classes and cultural barriers.

• The church must bring care, warmth and helping hands to a hurting world .

• The church must demonstrate the love and compassion of Christ by being His redemptive agent in the world.

• Radically changed lives (RTL’s) are the single most compelling statistic for the validity of God’s transforming love toward mankind.

OBSERVATION

Lord, thank you that you are The Father to the fatherless! Thank you that you love beyond what we can imagine-that you forgive, and that you do not count our sins against us. We are the church- your living and moving body on the earth. We take our rightful place as your divine agent in the world. We do care, and we are moving, loving and reaching out. I will use whatever means you have given me to join you in your redemptive work right here in Brandon and to the utter most parts of the world.

LIFEGROUPS

Use the following as a resource for your LifeGroup to go deeper with this week’s

message. We hope this helps you as you “do life together”.

Opener:

This week the message was on the “People” segment of The Crossing’s Vision. We all

have favorite “people” in our lives. Take turns answering the following questions in two

categories—family and friends. Who are some of your favorite people? Why?

Digging Deeper:

The church is not a building; it is the “people.” If we are to be a “church” who

compassionately loves people, we must demonstrate (live out) compassion. A good

definition of compassion is: “The ability to recognize one’s need or suffering, coupled

with a strong desire to do something about it.” Consider the verse Pastor Greg taught

on this week: “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes or daily food. If one of

you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about

his physical needs, what good is it? Discuss this verse and also read the parable of the

Good Samaritan found in Luke 10:25-37. Discuss what it means to be a church who

compassionately loves people. What are some examples of this at The Crossing?

Application:

You received a 24-Handout. This is the application. May it bless you as you use it within

your LifeGroup.
