We have reached the midway point of the school year. This is good news for many of our students as they are one step closer to summer break. Our students have been working hard on increasing skills and meeting grade level goals, but it is critical that we ensure the proper support system both at home and at school for the remainder of the school year. Students in Mrs. Lazzaro’s 8th grade ELA class are reading the novel Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine in which the main character has Asperger’s. The book is trying to

encourage readers to have empathy and understanding. Along with the novel, the students are writing essays comparing autism and Asperger’s. Mrs. Clavero and Ms. Dowd

visited the classes to answer questions and show the students what it’s like to follow directions for someone who has autism.

A special congratulation goes to Isabella in Mrs. Grubic’s class. She was the 1st place winner in the CAP poster contest. This is the first time a student from Hudson County has won in 12 years.
