Demographics: Hopewell Valley Regional School District is located in Hopewell and Pennington, New Jersey. Comprised of four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school, the Hopewell district serves more than 20,000 community members including 3,900 students across a 60-mile radius. This district is set in a suburban community, approximately one hour north of Philadelphia. Mission Statement: “The mission of our physical education program is to develop physically educated students who

have gained and practice the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to participate in a lifetime of physical activity.”

Curricular Goals: * Please See Attached Content Area Definitions: Individual and Dual Sport – physical activity governed by formal and informal rules that involve competition against a single opponent or oneself and are engaged in for fun, recreation or award. Dance/Rhythmical Activities – bodily movements of a cadenced or patterned succession usually executed to the accompaniment of music. Fitness – a set of attributes that people have or achieve that relates to the ability to perform physical activity. Locomotion - the act or power of moving from place to place Educational Activities - fun, entertaining, and enlightening experiences that produce a sequence of actions, movements, and behaviors that follow broad guidelines to produce a set of desired outcomes. Aquatics – physical activity taking place in or on water Camping and Backpacking – a combination of experiences that involves various skills and attributes including but not limited to planning, physical fitness, cooperation and teamwork, safety and first aid, and knowledge about traveling and survival in nature. Gymnastics and Tumbling - physical exercises designed to develop and display strength, balance, and agility, especially those performed on or with specialized apparatus. Team Sports - physical activity governed by formal and informal rules that involve competition between teams of players and are engaged in for fun, recreation or award.

1. All students will demonstrate various locomotor patterns that involve balance and coordination to help develop and maintain a safe, healthy, and active, lifestyle.

1. All students will demonstrate mechanically correct form and posture during physical activity to develop and maintain a safe, healthy, and active lifestyle.

1. All students will display effective and efficient movement forms to develop and maintain a safe, healthy and active lifestyle.

2. All students will demonstrate fundamental motor skills that necessary to participate in developmentally appropriate games, sport, dance, fitness and other recreational activities, to support a safe, healthy, and active lifestyle.

2. All students will perform a variety of movement skills that challenges their range of motion, balance, posture, and ability to react in a dynamic environment to promote a safe, healthy, and active lifestyle.

2. All students will self-evaluate their own movements and be able to physically correct mistakes or ineffective movement styles or patterns to develop and maintain a safe, healthy, and active lifestyle.

3. All students will exhibit proficiency in non-locomotor skills and movements to create and maintain a safe, healthy, and active lifestyle.

3. All students will create meaningful and purposeful movements that can be used to support a safe, healthy, and active lifestyle.

3. All students will display strategy in developmentally appropriate games, sport, dance, fitness and other recreational activities, to support a safe, healthy, and active lifestyle.
