Smelter for a period of three months from 5 th June 2018 to 6th September 2018 in the field of

Metallurgical Engineering . Nchanga Smelter is a BSI OHSAS 18001 :2007 certified business unit and

has direct to bl ister smelting technology.

Whilst on internship he was assigned to carrying out the following duties on a daily basis .

► Feed preparation at raw material handling, Blending, Concentrate drying and

conveying . . ,

► Flash furnace operations, control of parameters on DCS and Off G.:is h.:indling. ► Steam generation at waste heat recovery boiler, Monitoring of Electrostatic

precipitators ' operations parameter and effectiveness on trapping dust from the Gas.

► Operation of Compressors supply ing air to plant instruments.

► Pollution control at 1850tpd acid plant and monitoring of operations parameters.

► Recovery of bl ister from slag cleaning furnace, monitoring electrodes, slipping and

control .

► Recovery of cobalt alloy from cobalt recovery furnace by reduction reaction in electric

furnaces. ► Fire refinery, Reduction and Oxidation at anode furnaces.

► Casting of molten copper into copper moulds.

► Supplying of treated water to different sections of the plant at Nchanga Smelter for

cooling of furnaces and Gas.
