through in our philanthropy . . . school supplies to Fairchild AFB; basic supplies to our firefighters during the horrible east side fires; food, clothing & dollars to New Hope Resource Center during our Christmas luncheon; and finally our year long efforts to raise dollars for Vanessa Behan Crisis nursery. You ladies are amazing to sending me to the point of tears. Our interest groups, which are our hallmark, have continued to grow stronger. Thank you for a wonderful year!!!!! I’m so proud of our Board, of our members and what we’ve accomplished together. Sending you my deep appreciation for being you.Fondly,Shari Russell

Compass Club's Grand Coulee Dam Tour.

The day dawned overcast and drizzly. I woke around 4:00 and roused John from bed at 5:00, as instructed by the yellow sticky tag on the coffee pot! My very grumpy husband came upstairs complaining "This is why I don't do tours!" I, wisely, ignored him. (After having his shower and a couple cups of coffee, he apologized.)💕

When we boarded the coach, Vicki greeted us with her wonderful smile (What's not to like about that?). We settled into our comfy reclinable seats and John unfurled his Wall Street Journal. Others came and soon we were underway in our gently swaying vehicle. Morning person, that I am, I found myself fighting the urge to take a nap!

After introducing us to our driver, Terry, and giving us a brief outline of the day ahead, Vicki put in a DVD on the history of the dam, a most interesting lead-in to our eventual on-site tour. Though John and I had been on a tour of the dam previously, our docent this time was more knowledgeable so we learned much more about the dam building project. I remember thinking, the first time through, that 77 deaths was an awful toll. However, when compared to the 7,000 men employed during the building of the dam, it was actually just a tiny fraction of the whole number.

After the tour, our driver took us atop an overlook where the impact of the project on the surrounding area could readily be seen from the enormous "mountain" of excavated earth to the Lake Roosevelt recreational area created by the building of the dam. Lunch at La Presa (The Dam) was outstanding and most of us accompanied our meal with Modelo Negro or enormous Margaritas, which led to a very quiet bus as we resumed our journey to see the Palouse Dry Falls, then slowly wind our way back to Spokane.

Several of our intrepid members had the foresight to pack wine and glasses and, for them, Happy Hour began promptly at 5:00! My "grumpy" man had a great time and is now looking forward to next year's adventure with Vicki! RoThank you to Herb Beck for the pictures.
