MANITOBA MASTER GARDENER

ASSOCIATION

The Manitoba Master Gardener Association was formally organized in 2011 as a supporting and networking body for Master

Gardeners in Training as well as Certified Master Gardeners in the Province of Manitoba. Experienced in gardening

knowledge, they pass on knowledge through various mediums such as seminars, workshops, or helping organizations begin

gardening programs.

Check out their web site for a list of workshops open to all gardeners

ww.mggardeners.ca.

Information on the Certified Master Gardeners Course fall 2016 will be available in July.

The International Peace Garden has thousands of transplants done and more to do! Our teams of volunteers have completed as many as 7,000 transplants in a day. This is essential to ensure Horticulturalist Connie Lagerquist and her team get started as early as possible on flowers that will be seen by thousands of visitors to the Garden. Planting a 25 acre formal garden means the design for the year ahead must be in the minds of the horticultural team even before fall’s first frost.

While known for its formal garden, the International Peace Garden always looks to try some-thing new. This year will see the addition of a pollinator garden and expansion of the raised beds for growing edible plants. These additions to the Garden create greater opportunities for education and beauty on the grounds.

The pollinator garden adds to Horticulturalist Johann Olwage’s responsibilities in the sunken garden and the cactus conservatory. It will be designed to meet the needs of pollinators like bees and butterflies; hopefully expanding and sustaining their numbers in the Turtle Moun-tains.

The Peace Garden is open year round but spring certainly marks the start of the busiest time of year with official seasonal kick off happening on Mother’s Day with brunch and green-house tours.
