“The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross”

Host Henry Louis Gates, Jr. shared the history of African- American people, from the origins of slavery to a nation led by an African-American President. They ended up using Historic Jamestowne as a back drop for the episode. He discusses how jamestown was the first English colony to have slaves arrive.

“Mondavi winemaker hosts a Williamsburg Inn evening on Nov. 5”

California winemaker Peter Mondavi Jr. will visit the Williamsburg Inn on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to host an evening of his Charles Krug wines paired with dishes prepared by the Inn’s culinary staff.

The six wines selected are Chardonnay Carneros, 2011; Sauvignon Blanc, St. Helena, Napa 2012; Merlot, Napa 2010; Cabernet Sauvignon, Yountville – Napa 2010; Family Reserve Generations Estate Bottled, Napa 2010; and a limited release Zinfandel port, Lot XVI, Napa.

Beginning at 7 p.m., guests will be able to move between different stations to sample the food and wine and talk to the winemaker and chefs. Food pairings developed by Exeuctive chef Travis Brust include whole roasted duckling and foie gras torchon, hand-crafted Cavatelli pasta with braised bison osso bucco, Chesapeakejumbo crab, vegetables grown in Colonial Williamsburg’s colonial gardens, rockfish and Chateaubriand.

Dessert selections include candied bacon and Virginia peanut cupcakes, mission fig compote, Tilston Blue Point cheese, chocolate cardamom ice cream and roasted walnuts with apricot honey.

Tickets are $75 per person, and reservations are available by calling 888-965-7254. Wines will be available for sale by the bottle following the tasting experience
