Golf NewsMeredith Kiernan shot even par 72 in the first round of the Women’s Club Championship Saturday, then followed it up with a 75 on Sunday for a 147 total to win the event. Her win ended a seven-year reign for runner-up Cathy Moss, Cathy has had the parking space since 2011, she said the last time she lost a club championship the player did not have a license. Mere-dith played in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am last fall representing the First Tee of St. Petersburg and just recently the inaugural Major Champion’s Invita-tional hosted by Nick Faldo.

Jackie Keller shot 183 to win low gross in the first flight and Barbara Ina won low net with 143. Peggy Peseckas won first gross, Joan Saimond won first gross in the second flight with 185 and Cheryl Amico and Jung Yum tied for low net with 146. The greens were FAST and the breeze was up. Nice playing ladies and thank you for playing!

Mike Barkley won his fifth Club Championship and three in a row. Mike won 4 + 3 over qualifying medalist P.J. Penrose. They were tied after the first eighteen, P.J. birdied 16 & 17 to take his second 1 UP lead, but then Mike squared the match with a par on 18. Mike shot one under par the last nine holes of the match. Both players hit a lot of great shots and made several momentum pars to turn the match their way. Mike was five of seven out of the bunkers for par and P.J. twice made par from off the back of nine green to the middle tier. Congratulations to all the winners and runner-up finishers. Phil Powell won the Consolation Flight with a 1 UP victory over Richard Hope. Matthew Smith won the First Flight 6 + 4 over Gill Lazenby, and Nigel Hilliard won 1 UP over Guy Helgeson to win the Gold Tee Flight. P.J. Penrose was the medalist in the qualifier with 74. John & Pam Binnington shot 55 to win our Mixed Championship. Paul & Charlene Doughty won low gross with an even par round of 72. Flight winners were Randy & Cathy Moss (61) and Ken & Linda Garrity (64).

The “Sundowners” game is in full swing with the time change, this is a great way to break up the week. The game is played on Thursday afternoons with players teeing off any from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Players may play in their own group or be paired by the pro shop. The format is blind draw better-ball net, skins and closest-to-the-hole. The maximum handicap for the nine holes is 12 strokes; the Skin game is by gross score. The Entry Fee is $15.00, wom-en and guests are welcome; the guest fee for Sundowners is $20.00. Please call ahead of time to let us know you are playing.

Please remember to use your Store Credits before May 1st.

Tennis Tip: Confidence!

Confidence is a key to success in tennis at all levels. Here are 3 tips to help you to maintain your confidence.1). Practice Your Strengths!Doing something well gives you confidence , and repeating your strongest shots will remind you to hit them most often in matches.2). Don’t Beat Yourself Up!Don’t judge yourself too harshly. Evaluate and move on. A short term memory works best.3). Let Repetition Take Over:Hone your skills until they become automatic. When this happens, you make your game plan successful even when you’re nervous or doubtful. There’s only one way to do that: Practice!

Be CONFIDENT and have Fun!See you on the courts!Tom Judson
