The City House

Foundation

Established in 1981 through the joint efforts of the Parents’ Guild (formerly known as the Mothers’ Guild), the Advisory Council (formerly known as the Advisory Board) and the Society of the Sacred Heart (Canada), the City House Foundation is a non-profit organization with the purpose of providing financial support to the Sacred Heart School of Montreal. The trustees of the Foundation support an annual program to raise funds to be retained and invested. The 2016-2017 objective was $250,000 in addition to the Capital Campaign. The income generated is used to fund three types of activities: Building Improvement & Enhancements through the Capital Campaign, Enrichment Programs, and Bursaries.

Bursaries

The Sacred Heart School of Montreal believes strongly in encouraging the development of a diverse community. Enrolment is not limited to students whose families are able to afford the tuition and it is for this purpose that the Bursary Fund was established.

In this current academic year (2017-2018):

•  25% of Sacred Heart students (1 in 4) received bursaries

•  $310,000 in financial aid was awarded to 52 students

•  The average bursary is $5,900.

The financial aid is funded by The City House Foundation, thanks to the generous support of alumnae, parents, past parents, faculty, staff and our

community and through special fundraising initiatives such as the year-end Golf Tournament, the Benefit Concert and the

Annual Telephone Campaign, in addition to, email and direct mail appeals.

Every effort is made to provide some financial assistance to as many as possible.

The Sacred Heart

Message from the Director of Advancement & Communications

It is thanks to the dedication and hard work of our wonderful community that we were able to raise $373,000 this past year. A special thank you to the school’s Advancement & Communications team: Lili Hollinrake Le Fèvre, Major Gifts Coordinator (past parent ’13) and Isabel Brinck ’92, Communications Coordinator, for their continued support.

The future at heart Capital

Campaign

In the spring, the school celebrated its 156th anniversary with a gala at Montreal’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel, followed by an announcement that it had proudly raised $2.1 Million toward the 3-year, $5 Million Capital Campaign. All proceeds will help fund the building of an Auditorium, a Wellness Center and other miscellaneous capital improvements.

Fundraising remains our primary focus with the help of our community including current and past parents, current and past faculty, members of the Board of Directors, The Parents’ Guild, the Alumnae Association, and the Foundation.

Summary of 2016-2017 events

and net income:

• Benefit Concert $1,550

• October e-mail: $19,800

• Telephone Solicitation Campaign: $15,000

• Direct Mail Appeal: $2,000

• 156th Gala: $53,000

• Golf Tournament: $37,400

We make it easy to donate

We continue to provide online payment options and installment plans that have helped simplify the donation process. The Planned Giving program is another donation option through an estate gift, that ensures that Sacred Heart will continue to be a place

where scholarship and values matter, all the while, helping you achieve your tax and financial goals.

I would like to thank the

members of the Sacred Heart Community for their continued support, and I celebrate their commitment, generosity and

kindness of spirit.

Annette Kopec Brawley (past parent ’13) Director of Advancement & Communications

Your Support

Matters

The Sacred Heart School of MontrealMessage from the Head

of School

The Sacred Heart School of Montreal relies on tuition and the Foundation contributions to fund its operations. Tuition fees cover all the things a school should reasonably provide to enable its students to graduate and be successful at post-secondary institutions. Donations provide the necessary help to those families that are seeking a Sacred Heart education but need a little help in making up the gap with their own ability to cover the fees.

Your Donations at Work

In the last academic year, the net fundraising revenue has increased by 53% and an additional $118K of donations were invested in our facilities through our Capital Campaign.

Thanks to the outstanding generosity of our donors and an ever growing demand for enrolment, both domestic and international, The Sacred Heart

School of Montreal is experiencing a resurgence. Through the interest and support of our alumnae, current and past parents, current and past faculty and friends of the school, we are positioned to make significant progress in the years ahead. The future is bright when you have L’avenir à coeur.

Without your generous support none of these achievements would be possible. Specifically, the re-opening of our boarding facilities. After an almost 25 year absence, we have international students once again living on the 4th floor, with a capacity for 14 students. We anticipate opening up the 5th floor for an additional 20 students in September 2018.

So many of our school’s strengths come from the generosity of our donors. From the launch of one-to-one computing with the use of Chromebook laptops, to updated classroom technology,

such as, smartboards, to new percussion instruments, such as tubular bells or chimes, for the music department.

My sincerest thanks to our

community of donors and supporters for helping us to provide the best education at the pre-eminent all girls English Catholic high school in Montreal.

Message from the City

House Foundation

President

It has been an exciting year for The City House Foundation. We have embarked on a 3-year, $5 Million, Capital Campaign which is the largest in the school’s history. It has been almost 25 years since we built the gymnasium and we are very excited to begin this new phase in the school’s fundraising history.

As a golfer, I take particular pride in this year’s 16th annual golf tournament. It was a record breaking event with our largest participation in terms of golfers and raised almost $40,000 for the Capital Campaign for the building of a new auditorium. I enjoyed meeting with many parents, alumnae and supporters of the school. A heartfelt congratulations to all those on the golf committee who helped to make these events

welcoming to all within our community.

As the school continues to thrive and grow its enrolment, it is more important than ever that we create a meeting space - like an auditorium - that can hold our current and future students, their parents and our community at large. I see this new state-of-the-art performing space as a warm welcome to the Catholic community that will be able to take advantage of this reception area. Not to mention the school’s award-winning concert band and our ever popular yearly drama productions.

I am concluding my third and final year as CHF President, and I thank the community for its continued encouragement in supporting English Catholic all girls’ education in Montreal. I look forward to helping

continue to fundraise for the Capital Campaign and meeting with our community at our various events like Open House and the Benefit Concert.

Sincerely,

Valerio Bittichesu, President, City House Foundation
