NOTES FROM THE BOARD CHAIR Carol DeFiore, DeFiore-Jorgensen Funeral Home Thankful for the opportunity…Feeling Blessed It has been two years since I accepted the position of Chair for the Huntley Chamber of Commerce. Like many things in life, I can honestly say it was not what I thought it was going to be. It has been an amazing, challenging, growing experience. Not only have I learned a great deal about the many strong, determined businesses in the Chamber but I have learned a lot about myself too. In the past two years, I have learned that everyone, every business has a story. Those stories are what make us successful. Those stories are what allow us to connect to people and learn more about others and ourselves. Many of those stories are stories of decisions, outcomes that we never pictured, or could never have been imagined and yet we are better for going though them.

Let me briefly digress and share my story. In 2007 Bill and I decided to build a funeral home. I moved to Huntley to start that process. In my naivety I thought how hard could this be? Surprise it was much harder then I could have ever imagined but so worth it! The very first thing I did was to join the Huntley Chamber. To date it continues to be one of the best choices for the funeral home. The Huntley Chamber also has a story, and a great history. The hard work and vision that created this Chamber continues to grow and evolve. Today the Huntley Chamber is strong and growing. In the last year we have hired Sunday Graham, as the new Executive Director, she brings an excellent background and many strong skills that already and will continue to serve us all well. The Chamber is getting financially stronger and more importantly fiscally responsible every day. As business owners we can all appreciate the challenges, the skills and the time it takes to run a business well. The Executive Board has served with me for the last two years, Brenda Slavik, Janet Sisson, and Dave Novalinski, the four us were a great team. There were many difficult decisions that we never thought we would have to make, but just like running a business it was a necessity. And we always made the decisions thoughtfully and carefully hoping to serve the best interest of the Chamber, not one person or one business. I am thankful for all of the team and their dedication to the Chamber; I could not have done this job without them. Michael Flood of Caulfield and Flood has served as Chair of the Finance Committee for the past two years. Not only has he spent many, many hours helping the Chamber get to a healthier financial position but he has taught me so much and has been a person who truly supports and believes in the Chamber. He has also been a believer and supporter in me. The Chamber and I are better today because he has believed in us and for that I am grateful. I believe that the Huntley Chamber is awesome and will continue to grow and evolve and that every day is a great day to do business in Huntley. Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to help lead such a vibrant organization. I am so very grateful to have been given such a great opportunity. Thank you!

 ACTS is Coming to Huntley  

 Harvard, IL – November 12, 2014 – Founded in 1949, Adult & Child Therapy Services (ACTS) has provided physical, speech and occupational therapies to men, women and children in Woodstock for 65 years. Starting Monday, December 1 ACTS will bring these services to Huntley with its first satellite location at 12151 Regency Parkway.    ACTS opens its doors on December 1 from 1 – 5pm and is offering free Fall Risk Assessments to Huntley residents. Appointments for this event can be scheduled by calling 815‐338‐1707. Therapists will be at this event to provide answers to any questions about the facility and additional therapies offered at ACTS.  “I can’t imagine a stronger way to celebrate our 65th anniversary then to open a second facility in a new community” said Lori Harms, President of ACTS’ Board of Directors. “My dad was one of the two founders of this organization when it was Easter Seals, and I know he is looking down and smiling on us today.”  ACTS’ mission to inspire hope, develop independence and promote well‐being in patients and their families through one‐on‐one physical, speech and occupational therapy is a promise to the families and communities they serve on a daily basis.    Adult & Child Therapy Services provides physical, speech and occupational therapy to more than 300 men, women and children of all ages. This year, more than 150 children under the age of three will receive service from ACTS. More than 100 seniors will come for therapy, fall risk assessments and individualized exercise programs.   Contact: Kristine Ensor, Director of Development 815‐338‐1707 kensor@adultchildtherapys.org
