In today’s complex world, balancing work/life issues is more challenging than ever. 20% of employees experience significant mental health challenges that disrupt their lives and their productivity at work each year. Unaddressed these problems impact productivity, absenteeism, presenteeism, direct medical costs, and suicide costing over $200 billion each year. In a recent study, the CDC found that construction/extraction were #2 for industries with the highest rates of suicide and #1 for largest numbers. While the majority of people who die by suicide are working age, most workplaces are woefully unprepared for this tragedy. Without support these challenges can progress to significant mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and addiction. Some become so overwhelmed they succumb to suicidal thoughts. These losses bring a considerable emotional cost on close friends, family and the workforce. Increased productivity: Increase mental well-being and employee confidence; cut absenteeism and presenteesim (showing up to work but not being able to function due to feeling overwhelmed). Enhanced mental resilience: Increase your EAP service utilization by 50-60% when well-being problems are small and create a mentally healthy workplace; improves employee morale, retention, and satisfaction rather than react to highly disruptive and catastrophic outcomes of life-threatening addiction and severe mental illness. Improved safety: Instill mental health awareness and suicide prevention as the next frontier in safety; equip and empower leaders and supervisors to confidently communicate with employees and to recognize the need for mental health interventions before tragedy strikes. Decreased risk of litigation: Learn more about how reasonable accommodations related to mental health conditions and avoid unnecessary legal battles.
