SNOW DAYS By Jasmin Carrasco

Have you ever wondered why was I home

from school on a day I thought I had to go? Well,

because you had a snow day!

Why do we have snow days? What can we do

during snow days? Why don't we go to school

sometimes during the week? Here is the answer to all

your questions.

In some states, they don’t have snow days

because well they don’t have snow. The reason they

don’t have snow is because they have a warmer

temperature.

A snow day is a day you have off from school

because the weather is not allowing you to go to

school. Some things you can do during a snow day

are:

1. Make a snow man

2. Have a snow ball fight

3. Make a snow angel

Although, just because it's a snow day, it

doesn't mean you have to play in the snow. If you

want to you can just make crafts, lay in bed, or just

simply watch TV.

Enjoy your next snow day!

How to Keep Your House Clean By: Marielle Jean

First, you can start with the back room of the house. Next, pick-up everything on the floor. Then if you need to vacuum, take out the vacuum and vacuum. When you are finished, you can put everything back in its place. Keep doing the same thing to all the rooms that have a carpet and are very messy. Then, when you get to a room with no carpet you can take a broom and sweep the floor. For example, if you reach the bathroom you could take everything out of the room, sweep the floor and move everything back to its place. When you get to the kitchen you can ask an adult if you can mop. If the adult says no just sweep really good. If the adult says yes, take a bucket and put just the right amount of water in the bucket. Then when you are finished putting the water in, take the mop and mop the floor. Then, when you are finished you can take a break until the next time you have to clean.

Hamilton By Noa Snyder

Hamilton is a Broadway show stopper that through music, tells the story of Alexander Hamilton. The story takes place between 1776 and 1800 throughout the Revolutionary War. Hamilton (in my opinion) is the BEST musical ever! Hamilton was created by Lin Manuel Miranda who originally played Alexander Hamilton in the show. I know that when you first hear about a musical about history you’re thinking BORING! But trust me with the rap and diversity of this musical you will soon fall in love with it.

Alexander Hamilton was one of America’s founding fathers who most people do not know, in my opinion, because he died at a very young age.

Alexander had a son named Phillip who sadly died at a very young age due to a bullet lodged beneath his hip.

Alexander Hamilton had 8 children they included: John, Angelica, James, Alexander, William, Eliza, Philip, and a second Philip who was born a year after the older son Philip died.

Alexander Hamilton was America’s first treasury and George Washington’s “right hand man.”

Alexander Hamilton has a very interesting life!

The Secrets of Star Wars By Joseph David Barbanel

Here are a few secrets in Star Wars. I hope

you like them.

Who is Snoke? Below are some people who

may be Snoke:

1. Mace Windu: When Mace Windu was

fighting Emperor Palpatine, the former was

struck by force lightning and was thrown out

of the opening where the window used to be.

The force lightning may have caused him to

have scars on his face, just like Snoke. In

addition, Mace Windu has his own particular fighting move, and Kylo Ren is the only other

person who uses this move. Snoke trained

Kylo Ren, so it is possible that Mace Windu is

Snoke.

2. Darth Maul: Darth Maul has the same

voice as Snoke. You might think that Darth

Maul has horns growing out of his head but

Snoke does not. But what if he cut them off to

make people think that he is someone else. It

would also make sense for Kylo Ren to use

Mace Windu’s move because he uses the

same style of fighting.

3. Someone from the old Republic: If you

saw the last Jedi trailer then you saw a

machine in the background. What if that

machine sucked up force power and put in

Snoke so he would stay alive. But what if

before that he got beaten up and that could be

why Snoke has his scars.

Darth Maul returns: If you watched the

Clone Wars then you would know that Darth

Maul is not dead but let me explain how he

survived. When Darth Maul fell down in a pit

with his legs just cut off by Obi wan Kenobi,

Darth Maul used all his anger to survive. He

got into his ship and flew to a garbage planet

where he fell into a hole but years later he was

saved by his brother Savage Ompres. Savage

brings his brother to Mother Talzin. She made

Darth Maul some robotic legs with magic.

Months later, Savage and Maul take over a

city also killing Dutchess Setene.

Rey Palpitene: We’ve been wondering who

Rey’s parents are for a long time. The last

Jedi trailer proves that she is a Palpitene. It

proved it because when Luke said that he only

saw a power like Rey’s once before. That was

when he was struck by Darth Sithios. The

junior novel says that Rey heard a voice and

that voice could have been the voice of Darth

Sidious. For those reasons Rey is a Palpitene.

How to Make Perfect Sugar Cookies

By Jack Carson

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened 1 cup white granulated sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 egg 3 cups all-purpose flour ½ teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons baking powder

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350F. 2. Cream together the butter and sugar with a

mixer until smooth. 3. Beat in the vanilla extract and egg. 4. In another bowl, combine the flour, salt and

baking powder and mix together. 5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet

ingredients a little at a time and continue using the mixer until everything is combined and the mixture is crumbly.

6. Wet your hands and knead it by hand. Separate it into 2 or 3 dough balls. Cover the remaining dough balls with plastic wrap while you are rolling. (Don't chill the dough)

7. Place the dough on a floured surface, sprinkle a small amount of flour on top to keep the rolling pin from sticking and roll it out until it's about ¼" thick.

8. Using your favorite cookie cutters, cut out the shapes, then use a metal spatula to transfer the shapes to a parchment lined cookie sheet.

9. Bake at 350F for 8 to 10 minutes.

Q&A with a Photographer on

How to Take a Good Photo By Noa Snyder

Q: How do you take a good nature photograph? A: The first trick of taking a good nature photograph is you have to be in nature, take a long walk, find something beautiful and try to look at it in a different way and use a small aperture. Q: Is there a certain time to take a portrait photograph? A: No because with a portrait photograph you can always lighten it. Q: Is there any special training involved on how to take a good photograph? Did you go through any training? A: Yes, it’s not formal training but there are some books written by an artist named Ansel Adams which pretty much tells you everything you need to know about taking a good photograph. You can also go to a school for photography.

TOP THREE CRAFTS

By Jasmin Carrasco

Looking for something to do when

you’re sooooo bored that you’d actually

consider taking a nap? Well, here are the top

three crafts to keep you from getting bored.

These crafts are: squishy stress ball, gummy

bear slime and galaxy jars. You most likely

already have all the ingredients you'll need in

your home.

The first craft is a Squishy Stress Ball.

It's fun to play with. You will need: a water

bottle, water, clear glue, glitter in your

favorite color, and a white or clear balloon (or

any color you want).

The first step is to fill up your water

bottle half with water and half with glue.

Next, add glitter to your water glue solution.

Then, you will take your balloon and blow it

up to your desired size. Once you have the

size you want, twist the top part so the air

won't escape. After that, attach the balloon

opening to the top of the water bottle. Once

you are sure it is on properly, hold the balloon

to the water bottle with one hand and pour

your water glue solution into the balloon.

When it is filled up, tie the end of the balloon

and you've got your own squishy stress ball!

The second craft you can make to keep

you entertained is Gummy Bear Slime! The

ingredients you will need to make this are: 1

cup of gummy bears, 2 tablespoons of

powdered sugar, and 2 tablespoons of corn

starch. Your first step is to melt the gummy

bears in the microwave for 10 to fifteen

seconds. Take it out and stir, repeat this step

as long as you need to until your gummy bear

solution looks like slime. The next step is to

stir your powdered sugar and corn starch into

the gummy bear solution in equal amounts

until it looks like activated slime. You are all

ready to play with it…and eat it!!!!!!!!!!!

The third craft option you have is to

make a Galaxy Jar or Bottle. The things you

will need to make this are: 3-4 colors of

acrylic paint, an empty water bottle, cups and

a funnel, cotton balls, glitter, a pencil and

water.

You will start by stuffing a few cotton

balls, about five, into your empty water bottle.

Use a pencil to poke them flat. Then, put a

generous amount of glitter into the water

bottle. Next, you will fill a cup about half way

with water and add three to four squirts of the

first paint. Mix it well, until the color appears

and is smooth. Then, pour it on top of the

cotton balls. Repeat these steps with all of the

colors you decided to use. Make sure to glue

the lid on the bottle when it is finished so it

doesn't leak. You're ready to hold the galaxy

in your hands.

I hope that these crafts can help you the

next time you are bored and have nothing fun

to do.

Shepadoodles by Joseph Barbanel

Table of Contents

Introduction ..........................................................................

Origin ...................................................................................

Shepadoodle Health Issues ...................................................

Information About the Breed………………………………

Conclusion………………………………………...……….

Introduction

Shepadoodles are not a purebred dog. Rather, they are a mix of a Poodle and a German Shepherd, both of which are working dogs. A Poodle’s main job is to carry buckets of water to be placed into a well and the German Shepherd’s main task is to round up sheep.

Origin

Shepadoodles originated in the U.S.A. It is believed that the U.S. Army developed this breed in the 1960’s as a military police dog. Bred from herding dogs that were noted for their superiority, German Shepherds were introduced in Germany in the very late 19th century and were first noted in the United States in the very early 20th century. They are strong, agile and beautiful dogs. The Standard Poodle, on the other hand, is older, having first been noted during the 15th century in Europe. Bred for hunting, it is a proud and intelligent breed with a rich history. Both breeds exhibited extensive service in World War II. The Shepadoodle is a relatively new hybrid, and there is not much history about them. It is rumored that the mix was conceived by the U.S. Army, and while this may or may not be true, it is well-known that they make good guard dogs, are intelligent, sociable, loyal and easily trainable.

Shepadoodle Health Issues

Hybrids, or mix dogs, such as the Shepadoodle, can either be immune or highly prone to the diseases of their parents. This will depend on the quality of the cross breeding, the dominant parent, and the genetic makeup of the parent and the offspring. Most common diseases that the German Shepherd Poodle mix is susceptible to are hip dysplasia, Von Willebrand’s disorder (a blood clotting disorder), skin problems, epilepsy, and bloating. Due to their long coats, these mix breed dogs are also prone to flea bites and tick infections.

Information About the Breed

Shepadoodles make great guard dogs, but unlike some other guard dogs (the bulldog, for instance), the Shepadoodle does not drool. The Shepadoodle needs two walks a day. The Shepadoodle is a quick study, easy to train and rarely barks.

Height: They stand about 22-28 inches tall

Weight: 50-90 lbs.

Lifespan: 12-14 years

Group: not applicable

Best Suited For: Families with children,

active singles, watch dogs, service dogs and

houses with yards

Temperament: Intelligent, loyal, loving and

eager to please

Colors: can be white, black, and is rarely red.

Conclusion Shepadoodles make great pets because

they are a mix of two very intelligent dogs. They rarely bark and are easily trainable. Also, as you can see from the pictures, they are adorable. Finally, I hope to convince my parents, with this article, to adopt a shepadoodle puppy as a pet.

German Shorthaired Pointer By Noa Snyder

German shorthaired pointers are sweet dogs with incredible hunting skills. Here are 7 interesting facts about them.

1.The German Shorthaired Pointer was developed in the late 1800’s in Germany. Breeders were trying to create a dog that would perform many different hunting-related tasks, based on instinct rather than training. They wanted a dog that could hunt prey of any size, both furred and feathered; point out animals to the hunter; retrieve the animals that had been shot; and track wounded animals. As if that wasn’t enough, they also wanted a dog that would be an excellent family companion. They did this in the German shorthaired pointer.

2. The German shorthaired pointer’s coat is short and thick. Although it’s relatively soft on the ears and head, the rest of the coat feels tough to the touch. Most of the breed shows that their coat color can be solid liver or a combination of liver and white. These dogs shed, and regular brushing with a grooming glove or rubber horse brush can help keep stray hairs under control.

3. These are smart dogs that want to please people. You can help keep your German shorthaired pointer’s mind moving with short and simple training sessions from the time he is a puppy. Be aware, because they are so intelligent and curious, they can become destructive if they’re bored. Find activities and toys that will keep your German shorthaired pointer’s brain active to prevent him from making his own destructive fun.

4. German shorthaired pointers need to be physically active, too. Their hunting background means they have a high activity level and need an outlet for their energy, including daily exercise. If you don’t hunt with your German shorthaired pointer, be sure to give him other ways to tire himself out, such as going for a run or playing in a fenced area.

5. This breed is relatively slow to mature. It’s not until they reach two years of age that most German shorthair pointers feel mentally adult. It’s important to be prepared for at least one year of a strong and muscular fully-grown dog with the mind of a teenager.

6. Remember that German shorthaired pointers were bred as a hunter's helper and as a family member. These friendly dogs need lots of time and interaction with their human family to reach their full happiness. Overall, this breed is good with kids. They seem to respond with care and protection toward small children that are fine with their unpredictable behavior. However, as with all dogs, it’s important to socialize them with children and supervise their actions.

7. The German shorthaired pointer has a strong need to work. These athletic dogs were bred to adapt to all things athletic, which means the whole world of dog sports is open to them. Their personality, intelligence, and physical traits help them excel at many activities such as dock diving, agility, field trials, hunt tests, and even search and rescue. Finding a way to fit your German shorthaired pointer into your free time will give him the chance to spend time with you and work for you, leading to a joyful and well-adjusted companion.

Rocks and Gems By Aaron Barbanel

Rocks and gems are marvelous things. Rocks and gems can be made of different things. For instance, rocks and gems can be made by volcanoes. This happens when lava cools, and minerals crystalize into solid rock. Some crystals are harder to break than others. For instance, there is a hardness scale. The least hard is Talc, then Gypsum, then Calcite, after that Fluorite, then Apatite, after that is Orthoclase, the next is Quartz, next is Topaz, then Corundum, and the hardest being Diamond! This paragraph is about, “Birth Stones”. If your birthday is in January your birthstone Is “Garnet”. Garnet is a red and shiny gem that people often use as jewelry. If your birthday is in February, your birthstone is Amethyst, which is a gem prized for its bright purple color. If your birthday is in March, your birthstone is Aquamarine, which is a blue, shiny gem that not many people know or think about. If your birthday is in April, your birthstone is a Diamond, which is one of the most expensive gems, depending upon its size and heaviness. If your birthday is in May, your birthstone is Emerald, which is a translucent green color. If your birthday is in June, your birthstone is Pearl. This is a gem often used for necklaces and other jewelry. If your birthday is in July, your birthstone is a Ruby, which is a red gem that most people know about. If your birthday is in August, your birthstone is a Peridot, which is a shiny green gem with which most people are unfamiliar. If your birthday is in

September, your birthstone is Sapphire, a blue gem which few people know about. If your birthday is in October, your birthstone is an Opal, a gem which comes in two types. The first, a Bolder Opal, looks like a regular rock. The second is a Fire Opal, which has red and orange colors in it, making it look like it is on fire. If your birthday is in November, your birthstone is Topaz, a pretty orange/pink stone. If your birthday is December, your birthstone is Turquoise, a blue gem which sometimes contains black lines. I hope this article has convinced you that gems are awesome.
