CBI & climate change – China Low Carbon Case Studies
British Airways: Carbon offset projectsWind farm in Inner Mongolia
The wind farm in Inner Mongolia has 33 wind turbines and will save 121,757 tonnes of CO2 a year or the equivalent to taking 22,300 passenger cars off the roads per year.
HEP plant in Gansu:
The hydro-electric power plant in Gansu can save 36,000 tonnes of CO2, which is equal to taking 8,000 cars off the roads per year or 4,696 households’ electricity use per year.
Conclusions
Action needs to be taken now and a global climate change agreement reached in Copenhagen in Dec 2009.Priority
Consumers, business and government must work more closely together to achieve targets.
Inter-dependency
Business in China needs to be green to grow – and UK business is well placed to assist.
Green to grow
