Pre-K News PRE-K UPDATE Bailey Rountree, Preschool Director

#welovnewcov

April for Preschool has been a smooth and steady month with lots of fun learning activities. It’s hard to believe we only have a month and a half left of this school year. This month our students have been learning and growing in so many ways. In each of our classes our teachers are helping the students to fine tune their skills as they prepare them for the next school year. We have had several Tornado and Fire Drills at school this month and our students have done a great job with listening and following the directions of where they need to go. It is especially sweet to watch friendships grow between our students; our students look forward to recess when they all get to play together.

We are excited about how the Lord continues to grow our school through the preschool. We now have the space to have three K4 classes for 2016/2017 school year! There are still spots available in all of our classes: 10 spots in K2, 2 spots in K3, and 6 spots in K4. If you know of anyone looking for a preschool for 2016/2017 school year let them know we still have these openings. Prospective preschool families can call the school office at 224-5675 or email our Preschool Director, Bailey Rountree, at [email protected].

PTO NEWS/UPDATES Teaming up for a Brighter Future

It is with much sadness that New Covenant School will say goodbye to Mrs. Debbie Smith this Friday, April 8th. Mrs. Smith is moving on in her career as she has become certified for medical/insurance coding. Mrs. Smith has been a long term servant for New Covenant School. She has taught Elementary, Middle and High School science classes. She has taught music, been the school nurse, helped with many of our theater productions and worn many, many other hats. NCS is extremely thankful for all that Mrs. Smith has done.

She will be missed by our faculty, parents and most of all our students. For the remainder of the school year, Mrs. Heather Van Wieren, who is our Preschool Music Teacher, along with the Music Ministries Director at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church and a Music Instructor at Sing & Play Upstate, will take over and teach all of Mrs. Smith’s music classes. Many thanks and blessings to Mrs. Debbie Smith!

Congratulations, 1st Grade!

Family Testimony

I am a senior in the New Covenant school 2016 graduating class. Ever since I came to NCS in the 7th grade I have made a second family. Everyone looks out for each other no matter the circumstance. The teachers are always there and happy to help when needed. The Christian environment and education has aided me in my journey of faith. After I graduate, I will be attending Anderson University to major in Commercial Music and minor in Business. Thanks New Covenant’s chapel leadership and talent shows opportunities, I have been able to gain experience in performing that should help me in my musical career. After college I plan to work in the Anderson/Greenville area and if possible help chapel for NCS in the future. If I have learned one thing from my time here to pass on to the younger students, it would simply be to take school seriously, do your homework, and make lots of friends.

When I agreed to write this month’s family testimony, I imagined an easy task. After all, with a graduating senior, I have over ten years of experience with New Covenant School! Little did I realize how overwhelming it would be to condense this amazing journey into a short testimony. Instead, I will share three experiences that illustrate some of the key lessons that Becca will take with her as she leaves New Covenant School. The first lesson requires a flashback to third grade with Alisa Lamb. She roped off the lawn in front of the church in the exact size of Noah’s ark. Mrs. Lamb marched an enthusiastic group of eight and nine year olds around the lawn “inside” the ark. She made the Bible and its stories come alive to these children. Becca takes with her the knowledge and experience that the Bible is God’s real history of interacting with His people. For the next lesson, fast forward to seventh grade with Coart

Ramey. To demonstrate the beginning of World War I, Mr. Ramey helped the students act out the “shot heard ‘round the world.” Becca was shot and killed with her husband, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Other students played countries who quickly jumped into the war based on their alliances. Becca takes with her an understanding of history that came alive in the classrooms of New Covenant School. Finally, fast forward to senior year English class with Joel Wilkes. In between occasional Starbucks runs and weekly life lessons during Wednesday Wisdom With Wilkes, Mr. Wilkes has taught his students to write the classic five-paragraph essay in preparation for college. Becca takes with her the ability and confidence to communicate her ideas in writing. These are just a sample of the experiences and lessons from New Covenant School. Yet, the best part of the journey was having my daughter in a place that was home to her and to me. I could always be confident that she would be loved by her teachers and taught an invaluable Christian worldview.
