3. Eligibility for Application

Classification Details

Nationality▶ The applicant and his/her parents all possess foreign nationalities.

▶ Those who do not have a dual nationality or statelessness.

Education▶ Those who graduated from an overseas/domestic standard curriculum equivalent

to that of South Korea’s elementary and secondary curricula.

Language

Proficiency

▶ English language level

Those who obtained a score equal to or more than the following points on an

English proficiency test: TOEFL (PBT 550, CBT 210, iBT 80), IELTS 5.5, TEPS 550

▶ Korean language level

A. Those who obtained a Level score equal to or above Level 3 on TOPIK, or

Level 3 in the University’s Korean Language Proficiency Test.

B. Those whose language proficiency is acknowledged as being equivalent to

the above stated description (Those whose Korean communication skills are

acknowledged during the University’s interview examination)

※ Applicants who don’t submit their Korean language score will be restricted in the number of

credits taken and must first complete the Korean language curriculum designated by the

University.

※ Those who acquired a foreign nationality due to a change of nationality are not eligible to

apply.

※ Home-schooling, Cyber learning, High school Graduate Equivalency Test for self-study are not

recognized as academic backgrounds.

※ A minimum of Level 4 TOPIK must be acquired for graduation.

※ Other significant matters of concern will be dealt with according to the University’s policies.

4. Evaluation Method

The interview examination will determine whether the applicant is

eligible for taking classes lectured in Korean, as well as in learning

one’s major.

※ Those who do not meet the application requirements will be disqualified regardless of their

admission evaluation score.

may not be accepted even after being reviewed by the University’s admission committee,

regardless of the number of applicants.

B. Instructions on documents submission

1) Applicants are entirely responsible for any consequences that maybe caused by the

submission of incorrect application information. Applicants are also held responsible for any

disadvantages resulting from incorrect (outdated or omitted) contact information and failure

to receive notice from the university.

2) All copies/versions of the submitted documents must be original. In the case of unavoidable

circumstances where the applicant must submit a photocopy, the document must have been

certified as an identical copy with the original. In addition, the submitted documents and

application fees cannot be returned at all.

3) Documents not written in Korean or English must be translated into Korean and verified.

The documents must be submitted in its original verified copy.

4) If the name or the date of birth on the submitted documents are different, the applicant

will need to turn in a document verifying their identification that is issued by country’s court

or diplomatic office.

5) Applicants who are expected to graduate may submit original copies of the certificate of

expected graduation and transcript at the time of application. However, copies of the high

school diploma, certificate of graduation and the final transcript must be submitted before

However, bank statements with an expiration date are valid until

the expiration date. (Please note that such bank statements are

valid for up to 6 months from the day of issue.)

▪ The deposit balance indicated in the bank statements must be

maintained during the entire period of allowance. In cases where

the bank statement is issued by a short-term deposit and

withdrawal, the bank balance may be rechecked for evaluation

after some time duration.

admission. Those who fail to satisfy this requirement will be automatically disqualified, even

after being accepted.

6) Applicants who fail to submit documents verifying one’s academic credentials (degree) will

not be issued the standard admission permit, necessary for visa application.

7. Application FeeA. Application Fee: 100,000 KRW

B. Please note that once the online application period is over it cannot be cancelled, nor can the

application fee be refunded.

※ If applicants cannot take the screening exam due to unavoidable circumstances beyond

one’s control, documentary evidences must be submitted and according to the discretion

of the admission committee, his/her application fee (excluding handling fees) may be

partially or completely refunded.

8. Enrollment and RefundA. Enrollment period : 2020.01.06(Mon) ~ 01.08(Wed) during bank working hours

B. If the accepted student does not pay the tuition fees by the due date, admission offer will be

automatically withdrawn.

C. Students who receive more than one acceptance from several universities must enroll at one

university only. In case of multiple enrollments, all acceptances from universities that the

student has enrolled in will be cancelled.

9. Points of CautionA. Screening

1) Academic decisions concerning the eligibility for application and submitted documents are

made comprehensively. Individual contact may be made during the screening process if

additional documents are required to be submitted.

2) Applicants who do not comply with the University’s prescribed screening procedures and

rules, or those with incomplete application materials, which render the screening impossible,

will be disqualified.

3) Applicants must bring their application identification slip and identification card on the day

of the interview examination.

4) If a student is found to have applied through illegal means, such as submitting false/forged

documents or false facts and employing a substitute during examinations, or does not meet

the specified qualifications, he/she will be disqualified. If any of the above-mentioned facts

are discovered after the admission is granted, the acceptance and admission decision will be

revoked.

5) If the admissions committee decides that the applicant’s academic credentials do not meet a

suitable level, he/she will not be selected.

6) None of the information concerning the admissions screening results will be made public.

7) All screening and decision-making will be made by the University’s ‘Admissions Committee’. Other

matters related to admissions will be processed in accordance with the rules of the University.

8) Applicants are selected according to their total evaluation score. In the case of equal

evaluation scores, both applicants will be accepted.

B. Other Miscellaneous Matters

1) If the Ministry of Justice refuses to issue a student visa (D-2) for the applicant, the

admission will be revoked. In case that the successful applicant could not receive a student

visa (D-2) within 2weeks from the beginning of the semester or does not enter the country,

he or she may be reported as a non-entered person and enrollment will also be revoked.

Applicants are entirely responsible for the visa refusal and delay.

2) Unless otherwise indicated by the University’s regulations, students cannot take a leave of

absence during their first semester after admission.

3) It is mandatory for all new international students to maintain proper health insurance

coverage during their study at the Catholic University of Korea. The types of health

insurances include ‘insurance purchased in one’s own country (which allows the student to

receive medical coverage in South Korea),’ ‘local health insurance,’ and ‘international student

insurance by a Korean accident insurance company’. Detailed information will be delivered

to successful candidates after the acceptance notification.

10. Submission of documents for academic credentials verificationA. Submission of documents for academic credentials verification by overseas High School graduates

Applicants must submit their High School diploma and transcripts (proof of enrollment) from

overseas High Schools after being verified by one of the three methods listed below. If submission

is to be delayed, accepted applicants must submit these documents to the Office of Admissions

during the designated period (Documents issued by overseas Korean international schools approved

by the Korean Ministry of Education do not need to be verified by the consulate)

1) Academic credentials and documents (High School diploma and transcripts) verified by

Apostille.

2) Academic credentials and documents (High School diploma and transcripts) verified by the

Korean Consulate in the country where the applicant’s school is located (Consulate

certifications may be substituted by ‘Foreign Education Validation)

3) <Chinese applicant – Regular high school>

11. Scholarship and Inquiries

A. Students who did not obtain their language proficiency scores as required during the

admissions process will be restricted in the number of credits that can be taken in the first

semester and will not be considered for a scholarship in the following semester (second

semester).

B. Students who change their nationality to Korean after admissions will not be considered for a

scholarship.
