“You have cancer.”

“I’m sorry, your son/daughter/spouse

(fill in the blank) has been killed.”

“Business is down; you are being laid

off.”

Life can change in the blink of an eye.

Just a few short weeks ago my wife and I

were eagerly preparing for a trip to Italy.

With the COVID-19 outbreak, a reality that is

now hitting home, we wonder what is to

come in the next several days, weeks and

months. Look at how all of our lives have

changed within the past week.

As we began our Lenten journey this

year, many of us may have wondered what

our journey would be like leading up to the

celebration of the Resurrection on Easter.

Our linked parishes decided to focus on “The

Last Judgment” from Matthew 25:34-36. In

this scripture passage there are basic truths

of our faith and that Jesus Christ identifies

with those in need: the hungry, thirsty,

naked, sick, and the imprisoned. We are

asked to follow Jesus and to love and serve

those people as well. Hence, we chose the

local food pantries to be the recipients of

our Lenten project this year and using the

theme “Neighbor to Neighbor, Hand to

Hand”.

John’s (lengthy, but insightful) gospel

this weekend tells the story of the miracle

performed by Jesus in healing the man who

was born blind. But the story is also about

the Pharisees, who continue to look for a

way to condemn Jesus. In healing the blind

man, Jesus shows all that he is the light of

the world. Just as in last weekend’s gospel

with the Samaritan woman, the blind man

recognizes Jesus as the Savior and commits

to following him through his faith.

As you hear/read the gospel, notice

that the man that is cured is not the only

blind person in the story. The Pharisees are

also blind. They have forgotten the basis for

all of God’s commandments, to love God and

to love one’s neighbor. The Pharisees have

their sight, but do they really see what is

going on around them? Many of us have

been blessed with the gift of our eyesight.

But in what ways are we “blind”? What can

we do to open our eyes to change in our lives?

With this outbreak of the COVID-19,

how can we be more open to showing our

love of God and neighbor? How can we

support the food pantries? Perhaps providing

financial support or assisting them at the

pantry or delivering goods. What opportunities

are present for us to help the elderly, the

sick, or shut-ins? They may appreciate a

phone call to let them know we are thinking

of them or running a much needed errand

for them. How can we use our “at-home”

time to strengthen our relationship with our

God and family? This may be the perfect

opportunity to pray together or have a family

Bible study or to reconnect with each other.

During this challenging time in our

lives, it is important to remember that Jesus

is walking with us on this journey. He is

always with us. This is the cross that we are

bearing at this time. Jesus is with us with

every step that we take.

Remember to keep the faith; Jesus, I

trust in you!

Be safe, and blessings on this Lenten

journey!

Wednesday Is 7:10-14; 8:10/Heb 10:4-10/Lk 1:26-38 Thursday Ex 32:7-14/Jn 5:31-47

Friday Wis 2:1a,12-22/Jn 7:1-2,10,25-30 Saturday Jer 11:18-20/Jn 7:40-53

Sunday Ez 37:12-14/Rom 8:8-11/Jn 11:1-45

Join us next week as our readings’ focus is: “Those who believe in Jesus, and walk in his ways, will never die.” Our worldly desires bind us up in burial cloths fashioned from our sins that block the will of God from our sight. By putting aside selfish ways and trusting in God’s love and mercy, we allow Christ to call us forth from death so that we might lead a resurrected life in the Spirit.

Lenten Regulations

Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays in Lent and Good Friday. In addition to abstaining from meat, Catholics who have celebrated their 18 th birthday until they celebrate their 59 th birthday, are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Those who are bound to this regulation may only eat one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted, if necessary, to maintain strength according to one ’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted.

Best Lent Ever

Once again this Lent, Dynamic Catholic is offering a free email program called “Best Lent Ever”. Those who sign up will get a daily inspirational email with a short video or a practical tip attached. No strings attached

Most of us are not quite as generous as we might think we are. How often do you give to those who do not so much as offer a thank-you or a smile in return? If you do it once, would you do it again? Are you generous with neighbors or relations who consistently ignore your wishes and feelings? Truth be told, most of us are good to those who are good to us. But Jesus welcomed everyone to join him at the table and freely offered them healing, forgiveness, even friendship—no strings attached. Jesus encourages us to stretch in that direction.

Mass Intentions

Thank you for your understanding.

Bishop’s Appeal Each parish is over two-thirds of the way to their goal! Thank you to all who have already made their gift. If you do not have a pledge card, extras are available in church or go online to www.catholicfoundationgb.org/give.

Bank Bill Pay While Stewardship Giving – putting your contribution in the offering basket as a loose offering or a check in your giving envelope - is the most common opportuni-ty to give, many of our parishioners have asked for the option of making a payment automatically through their bank's bill pay option. Automatic Bank Bill Pay, sometimes called Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), is set up directly with your banking institution; many banks offer this as a free service to their customers (some with requirements like having direct deposit, e-statements & a debit card). Talk to your bank for specific details they may require. This payment method allows you to set up an automatic draft withdrawal from your checking account without having to write or mail checks. If you pay your bills on-line, you are already familiar with the "Bill Pay" service from your banking institution. You may use this same service to make contributions to the church by setting up Holy Rosary, SS. Peter & Paul or St. Ann as one of your "vendors". (If you know your church envelope number, please put that on the "account number" line.) The church will receive the check and will easily be able to credit your account. Your contribution will appear on your giving statement. To set up an automatic bank bill pay you will be required to contact your banking institution directly; logging on to the bank website is the most convenient but a phone call or visit to the bank may also be an option. You can set up a one-time payment in an amount of your choosing or set up recurring payments. You choose the frequency of payments and when during the month the payments are made. Most banks send email reminders. Payments can be changed or stopped at any time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bishop David L. Ricken suspends all public attendance at all Masses in the diocese

GREEN BAY, Wis. (March 17, 2020) – Bishop David L. Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay announced today that effective Friday, March 20, 2020, ALL PUBLIC ATTENDANCE AT ALL MASSES (this includes daily and weekend Masses) in the Diocese of Green Bay is suspended indefinitely to be reviewed in mid- April.

“I have been working closely with the bishops of the state of Wisconsin and diocesan staff, as well as professionals from Catholic health care over the last week,” says Bishop Ricken. “Based on their advice, the latest directive from the CDC regarding limiting public gatherings to no more than 50 people (Fed. Gov. recommends 10 people), and after much prayer and discernment, I made the difficult decision to suspend public attendance at all Masses indefinitely to be reviewed mid-April.” Bishop will celebrate a 30 minute Mass each Sunday during the suspension of public attendance and it will be broadcast over the local CBS affiliate, WFRV Local 5 at 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass is also available diocesan-wide via broadcast television on ABC affiliate WBAY at 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning, and on CW14 at 8:00 am. Radio Mass is available on Relevant Radio, 1050 AM at 9 a.m. Parishes throughout the diocese are also livestreaming Mass. Check your parish website for details. As additional resources are made available, we will keep the public informed.

Daily Mass is livestreamed Monday through Friday from the campus of Relevant Radio here in Green Bay. You can access the Mass at the Relevant Radio app, or at this link https://relevantradio.com/faith/daily- mass-video/.

The diocese is also compiling resources to provide the faithful with spiritual support during the COVID-19 emergency. You can find resources online at www.gbdioc.org/covid19.

We need prayer now more than ever as we traverse the unknown and make the best decisions for ourselves and our families. “Be strong and steadfast; have no fear or dread of them, for it is the LORD, your God, who marches with you; he will never fail you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6. May God watch over us and bless us during this national emergency.

All Masses, and Parish Events/Gatherings Canceled Until Further Notice

Yes, these are challenging times and for some, fearful times, but each of us is being asked to do our part to protect our neighbor and ourselves. This is a time we have never seen before, so our churches are being asked to do their part to keep our parishioners and visitors safe. This virus is highly contagious so we are asking everyone to keep a safe distance away from each other and wash your hands a lot. Most of us who may get the virus will be fine, but for many who have health issues they may not be. We don’t always know who those people are. Please keep everyone safe and do your part. We are not trying to create more fear just asking everyone to do their part. Put your concerns and fears in God’s hands and He will help us get through this. Be God like, safely check on your neighbors, especially the elder to see if they need anything.

So, until further notice all Mases and events at Holy Rosary, SS. Peter & Paul and St. Ann are canceled. This includes choir practices, Holy Hour, Parish Mission Planning meetings, Potato Pancake Supper, Stations of the Cross, all Faith Formation classes and events, Food & Fellowship, the Mother/Daughter & Father/Son Breakfast, Rosary, Book Club, Marian Devotions, etc. This is until at least the middle of April.
