This year Patek Philippe introduces a new perpetual calendar split-second monopusher chronograph model, Ref. 5951, launched in platinum only and housing the newly developed manually wound movement CHR 27-525 PS Q. This model features a black alligator strap with unique red hand-stitching, as well as a black gold dial. The chronograph functions are all displayed using red-painted hands.

Ref. 5960 was launched with great success in 2006 also in platinum, but with a two tone anthracite dial, to be followed in 2009 with a rose gold version. The new platinum version launched this year features a matt blue sunburst dial with a silvery tone and complements the existing platinum and rose gold models. This Annual Calendar Chronograph houses calibre CH 28-520 IRM QA 24 H, being the first self-winding Patek Philippe chronograph, which continues to be one of the most sought-after type of complication.

Released only in rose gold, this exceptional timepiece features a silvery-opaline dial adorned with 136 full-cut round diamonds and is fitted with a hand-stitched brown alligator strap.

Chopard 2010

A good time was enjoyed by all as we gathered at Longueville Manor in June where we celebrated Chopard’s 150 year anniversary.

At the heart of St. Helier and at the heart of island life. Hettich is a keen supporter of the Jersey Battle of Flowers and last year was no exception. Sarah Watson was crowned Miss Battle of Flowers 2010 and was presented with a piece of Baccarat jewellery by Jeffrey Chinn.

Our doorway was specially decorated for the occasion and made a perfect frame for this gorgeous seasonal picture.

Worn by the most glamorous people in the world, it’s hard to believe that the TAG Heuer luxury watch brand started 150 years ago in a small workshop in the Swiss mountains.

Edouard Heuer was only 20 when he set up his workshop, where he created a number of watch firsts, including an independent crown mechanism for pocket watches and the Oscillating Pinion – still “the beating heart” of almost every mechanical chronograph made today.

By 1895, Heuer had patented water-resistant watchcases. He then perfected dashboard chronographs for planes and cars and, in 1924, took the chronograph from the pocket onto the wrist, where it has remained since.

The creation of the Autavia, a dashboard-mounted timer for racing

cars, kickstarted an enduring love affair between Heuer and motorsport and, in the late Fifties, Jack Heuer entered the family firm. Jack set his sights on America and soon presidents and Hollywood stars were sporting Heuers – a tradition that TAG Heuer brand ambassadors, such as Leonardo di Caprio, carry on today.

Jack also loved motorsport: having received a patent for his Monte-Carlo stopwatch, in 1964 he named the Carrera after the Carrera Panamericana race. In 1971, film star Steve McQueen wore the square-faced Heuer Monaco in the race film Le Mans and Ferrari made Heuer its official timekeeper.

In 1985, Heuer joined the TAG group and created the TAG Heuer Formula 1. It reintroduced vintage models: the Carrera in 1996 and the McQueen Monaco in 1998. In 2001, new chief

executive Jean-Christophe Babin reintroduced Jack Heuer as honorary chairman. TAG Heuer has continued to rack up notable firsts, such as the Calibre 360 Concept Chronograph, the first mechanical chronograph accurate to 1/100th of a second. It has also inaugurated a series of radical concept watches, including the V4 –designed to emulate a car’s engine.

This year’s innovations include the Pendulum, which features an “invisible” spring powered by the tension between two magnets, and the Calibre 1887, celebrating Edouard Heuer’s revolutionary Oscillating Pinion movement.

It’s a fitting 150th birthday tribute to Edouard Heuer that his passion continues to embody the spirit of TAG Heuer watches today.
