Our Little Rose Buds Program is for children birth to 9 years of age. Once the child turns 10 they can officially join the Order of Confederate Rose as a full member. All children mature differently therefore it is up to the parent’s discretion as to whether the child is mature enough for this step. We encourage each parent to do what you think is best for your child/family. Please keep in mind these children are the future of the Confederacy. We need to keep them involved & motivated, otherwise the confederacy has no future.

Thoughts and Prayers:Thoughts and Prayers: Laura Nance – I will be at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem starting December 15th for up to 10 days. My seizures still aren't under control as I am having several daily even though I'm on 4 medications. I will be hooked up to an EEG and under video surveillance 24/7. I will be in a very nice room with cable and a DVD player and a rec room with games and a mini fridge down the hall. Anyone can visit me and visiting hours do not apply. Also, anyone who visits me gets free meals and a bed. The doctors really want me to be with someone as much as possible. I am sad that I will be missing out on so much of the holiday season. I would LOVE any and all visitors. (see page 4) Wendy Benton - from Chapter 53 in your prayers. She went into the hospital this am for a scheduled neck surgery. Debbie Allmon - from Chapter # 57 as she is having gall bladder surgery. Mike Brewer -is in Iredell Memorial Hospital with a small bowel obstruction. Please pray the obstruction will clear without surgery. Mike is the husband of Jane Brewer our Black Rose Coordinator. Wendy Benton – from Chapter #53 prayers for her husband Wolf as he was in a bike wreck over the weekend. Betty Shelley- from Chapter #53 she went to the hospital with chest pains, but is home now. Patricia Hart – Chapter #10 had surgery for 2 cysts removed from the base of my spine. Will keep everyone updated.

Mourning our Loved One’s

Kim Hall from Chapter 62, her husband's Great Aunt, Dixie Hall Edmiston passed away this past Sunday morning April 23 at the age of 102. She was an avid quilter, loved to cook and was the local historian for the area and traced all the family history. Also, my husband's grandmother, Connie Hall, passed away in near Mother's Day 2015. She and his great aunt Dixie would make a weekly run to town. His grandmother died at 94. She drove up until a month before. I got the pleasure of going to town with them on many occasions, and I miss those times. Both still had their minds until they passed. Truly blessed women and we the family were truly blessed to know and love them!

The Virtual Rose was created early on for the convenience of our members. Our members are very important and communication is the key to a strong society. We never want it said that our members are not informed. The newsletter is a very essential part of our success, but it is not enough as news comes to our attention between newsletters. The Virtual Rose is a tool for us to us in getting important information to our members between our official newsletters. When your officers or individuals send a VR to be published the message includes who is sending the message and who to respond to. I know it is easy to just hit “reply” which goes directly back to our WebMistress Anne, but then Anne has to resend the message to whom ever send the original VR. We are asking all members and chapters to reply directly back to whomever sent the original Virtual Rose. If you have not received an email in the last 2 weeks please send Anne your email address.

This February we again were invited to the U S Capitol to participate in the UDC annual ceremony to honor Robert E. Lee. We were restricted to a limited

number of attendees and our allotted time was brief. I remember not too many years ago we had a large audience, flags, music and

the Capitol would stop by to listen floral tributes. And visitors to us

with approval. My, how times have changed. Our annual ceremony at St Anne's Cemetery in Annapolis was also cancelled due to a "misunderstanding" by the church representative, but we later received an apology so we hope to be able to have it next year for Confederate Navy Day. We gave greetings for our chapter at the SCV Md. Div. annual convention in April, and as always were well received. Several of us are members of the Civil War Heritage Foundation and were at the Heritage Center in Gettysburg the following weekend. April 29 was the annual Confederate Decoration Day at the lovely Mt.Olivet Chapel and Cemetery in Frederick, Md. and as always our chapter presented a floral tribute to our fallen warriors buried there. May and June will be, as usual, very busy months for us. Every weekend is filled with ceremonies and parades, including the most visible D C Memorial Day parade. As long as they will have us, we will march with our flags unfurled in the face of all this political incorrectness! This spring has also been a sad time for us as we lost our dear Rose Mary Fritz, and Mary Houser lost her beloved husband, and ask for your prayers. We look forward to visiting with our sisters in Memphis this summer, and ask God to bless the South and Save our monuments. Southern Hoke Rose #35 Lincoln County: No news reported Ellen L. (Chapter news continued from page 6) Katherine Davis Whiting-Magnolia Belles # 46 Wilmington: con’t OCR #46 members visited at Brunswick Town State Historic Site on February 19 during the Commemoration of the Fall of Ft. Anderson. We feel that it is important to support these events. The fort was built over the ruins of an old colonial town, Brunswick, and was abandoned when Ft. Fisher, just across the river, was attacked and overrun by the Union. Shown among the sutlers’ tents are left to right Judy Ward, Brenda Shadrick, Lisa English and Linda Lashley. The color coordination is what they call a “happy accident!” At the March 18 quarterly meeting, MOSB Commander Donald Watson looked over donations from OCR # 46 that completely covered a 5 foot table. The items were for goodie bags being provided to attendees of the National Convention of the Military Order of the Stars and Bars. The Commander was well pleased with the hard work by our chapter members, who have been instrumental in helping to plan the convention coming to Wilmington in July. Entertainment and tours for the wives while the men are in business meetings has been thoughtfully planned and included by OCR members who have been part of the year-long Planning Committee. Our ladies will also be at the MOSB convention itself to decorate and assist checking-in people. What would they do without us? Our chapter was in attendance on April 29 at the dedication of a new historical interpretive marker being placed at Ft. Fisher’s Battle Acre by the NC Division UDC. The marker honored the sacrifices of the Confederate soldiers, sailors and marines. OCR members in

widow's weeds placed flowers at the foot of the UDC Confederate Monument to commemorate Confederate Memorial Day at Ft. Fisher. This OCR sub-group, Society of the Black Rose, is recognized as an important part of any commemorative event. The "Mourning Ladies" will also have a significant part in the 148th Confederate Memorial Day Service on May 7 at Oakdale Cemetery. They will march in with the SCV's uniformed color guard and will be seated in a special section, later placing flowers of remembrance at the foot of the Confederate Mound. OCR #46 President Yvonne Brown will place a wreath on behalf of the NCOCR and our own local chapter.
