Greetings and Happy New Year Carolina Club Members!

We are eager to welcome in this New Year and all the many wonderful events and experiences for our Members at The Carolina Club. Each year brings new opportunities to be a part of Member’s visits and we strive to provide an atmosphere for enjoyable, fulfilling and valued experiences for all occasions. We are excited about the Club’s outlook for 2020.

To assist the Club in creating memorable visits, I am delighted to introduce two new Employee Partners to our Leadership Team. We welcome Food & Beverage Director, Alan Andrews and Private Events Director, Victoria Harper. Alan has a vast executive management experience having been in the Triangle area hospitality industry the last two decades. His experiences include being a part of The Carolina Inn, LaPlace Restaurant, Capital City Chop House and The University Club in Durham. Alan is coordinating and overseeing all Food & Beverage service operations throughout the Club and working with Executive Chef Bryan to enhance the overall Club dining experience. Alan is a faithful Alumnus of UNC Wilmington and Cameron School of Business.

Victoria brings her sales experience to the Club from her time at Carolina Trace Country Club, Brier Creek Country Club and at the Bald Head Island Club. She brings a love for coordinating and planning special events from the small to the ornate. Her experience adds another detailed person to our already experienced Private Events Sales Team. She is a graduate from the University of Arizona and has been an immediate fit into our Carolina Club family.

The Carolina Club’s goal is to be one of your first considerations when planning an event, when deciding where to dine and as a great place for your friends, co-workers and acquaintances to consider joining as a Member. Simply, the Club is a better Club when Members are using the Club. We know that without active, satisfied Members, the Club fails and so does the quality of your experience. The Carolina Club is staffed with many talented, passionate people striving daily for Members to enjoy our Carolina hospitality each visit to the Club. We are anxious to welcome you and make your visit the very best possible.

Book Club – Expand your literary knowledge by discovering a new book each month. Join in on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.for insightful and lively discussions.

Carolina Women – A powerful group of women from The Carolina Club connect monthly over inspiring topics, interesting classes, and life’s simple beauties..Golf Club – The Golf Club meets seasonly on a monthly basis. Join these men and women as you explore your benefits at the participating ClubCorp Country Clubs and other local courses.

Arts & Culture Enthusiasts – ACES meets to explore and experience arts and culture through Club programming.

Bridge Club – The Bridge Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month to enjoy each other’s company and compete in a friendly game of progressive bridge. The winner each week receives a complimentary Chef’s Table for two. Bridge is played in groups of four, so be sure to RSVP!

Business Builders – Business Builders meets on Thursday mornings for networking with other Carolina Club business professionals to share ideas and learn from the best in various fields. Business Builders also hosts Lunch & Learns and Cocktails & Connections.

Cocktails & Connections – Come to the Club the third Tuesday each month for cocktails & connections! Mix and mingle with Members, enjoying your first drink, compliments of The Carolina Club.

Wine Society – Wine Society members enjoy tastings, dinners, and cooking demonstrations that showcase various selections of wines, foods, and spirits. Annual Fee Required.

Brew Crew – Brew Crew members receive exclusive benefits when dining at the Club; 20 oz draft beer for the price of 16 oz, a percentage off all Club sponsored beer dinners, $3 draft beers every Wednesday, and complimentary quarterly beer tastings. Annual Fee Required.

My favorite part of Membership at The Carolina Club: Pre-game Tailgates, the Member Connect Committee (if you get a chance to serve, I heartily recommend it), and especially our Club outreach such as Tar Heel Thanksgiving, which provides Thanksgiving meals for Carolina students who can’t be with their families, and Pasta with Purpose, which raises funds for local charities.

Happy New Year!

As I’m trying to write this quarter’s Chef’s Corner, I keep reflecting on 2019 and what a great year it has been. My favorite events include: A night in NOLA – Farmer’s Market inspired Italian Dinner – Rafting down the Rhone Wine Dinner – a “Low-Country Boil” – my annual Barbeque Bash – ALL the Brunches and Holiday events – and maybe my favorite-favorite: Beam family Bourbon Dinner.As culinarians we are always inspired by different people, places and life events. This past year I had several special experiences that have influenced some new dishes and upcoming Club events.First, this past summer my wife and I had a long overdue quiet vacation split between Charleston, SC & Ashville, NC. I ate and drank too much! But it was worth it. The trip immediately spawned several summer dishes with peaches, peanuts, barbeque, seafood and more. Our new winter menu continues to feature flavors from the coast to the mountains, along with local products and producers.Second, I was honored to be selected along with 23 other ClubCorp Chefs and Food and Beverage Directors to participate in the 2019 Greystone Incentive Program. In September we spent a week at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) Copia campus in Napa, California attending hands-on professional development courses. Even though the first morning we were tasting and discussing whiskeys and gins; We worked hard! Don’t let J.R. tell you differently! Throughout the week we had the pleasure of touring farmer’s markets, culinary gardens and wineries. Expectantly we had very exciting dinners at some of Napa Valley’s top wineries and restaurants, plus I dined at my first Michelin Stared restaurant. The experience has already influenced some new dishes, encouraged rethinking cooking techniques, and to eat and drink more (not sure the last one is a bonus – I’ll let you know after my next doctor’s visit)With a little more focus and planning over the next several months, keep an eye out for: • a Napa Valley Wine Dinner • Global influenced Bowls • Plant Forward Dishes & Dinners • Farm to Table Innovations • East Coast & West Coast Oyster and Beer Tasting • and much more… #LifeIsACabernetI look forward to welcoming you to The Carolina Club.
