WHAT DO YOU NEED TO

APPLY?

It is important to know that youtypically do not need letters ofrecommendation or your testscores to submit your application. The basic parts are: biographicalinfo, coursework, personalstatement, work/activities, whoyour letter writers are andadmission test date.

Plan ahead...

VERIFICATION

VMCAS will have your primaryapplication go through a processcalled verification. This is whereVMCAS "verifies" what you haveentered in for coursework and thatit matches your transcripts. Theywill also calculate the various GPAsVet Med schools use to evaluateapplicants. This process can take 2days or up to 4 weeks. Apply early!

Start the process...

TIMELINE OF APPLYINGARE YOU READY?

Determine if you are ready toapply based on your academics(GPA, completed pre-reqs), testscore (if applicable), experiencesand letters of rec. Do you feel likeyou are competitive for theprograms you want to apply to?

First step...

APPLICATION OPENS

The application to veterinarymedicine schools (VMCAS) opensnear the end of January eachyear. Applicants can build theirapplication, and then add vetmed programs in the middle ofMay. VMCAS closes the middle ofSeptember.

Know your dates...

TIMELINE OF APPLYING

SECONDARY APPLICATIONS

Once your application is submittedand verified, you can work onsecondary applications orsupplemental questions. Someprograms will have questionsembedded in VMCAS or have aseparate application (secondary).

Check your email...

WAITING GAME

One of the most anxious times for pre-health applicants is waiting to hear backfrom programs on interviews or decisions.Depending how long you have waited, you can submit an update withsignificant information. Otherwise, knowthat if you haven't been denied, then youstill have an opportunity!

No news, is good news...

INTERVIEWS

Being invited for an interviewmeans that you have met what theyare looking for on paper. This is youropportunity to talk to individuals atthe programs about why you arepassionate about the field and thatspecific school. Do your research!Come prepared with your ownquestions! And don't forget topractice with a mock interview!

Again...check your email!

ADMISSION OFFERS

Vet Med programs may send admission offerswithin a couple of weeks of interviewing.

Programs usually send out decisions inbatches. It is possible to receive multiple

offers, but also be denied or waitlisted.

Be ready

DECISION TIME

If you have received an admission offer,be mindful of due dates for deposits tohold your seat. Plus, applicants need tobe aware of decision deadlines. Readcarefully any information programshave sent you!

If you did not receive any offers, makesure you think about a plan B and whatyou need to do to reapply.

Understand your options

HOW DO I GET HELP?
