Our Mission is all about Knowing Jesus & Making Jesus Known in the Heart of Bethel
September 2018
On Sunday, August 26, we held our "north meets south"
picnic at our North campus in Gaylordsville. God blessed us with great weather
and our hosts, Kathleen and Jeff Weinzierl had their farm looking beautiful.
Everyone enjoyed great food, swimming in the pool and petting and connecting
with the horses and goats. A special thank you to Chuck Murad for donating all
of the meats and rolls for the event....and helping to cook it all as well! We had
so much food including some great desserts that everyone enjoyed. Nobody
left hungry! The two campus folks enjoyed meeting and getting to know one
another in such a beautiful setting. Mark your calendars as we join north and
south again on September16 in Bethel at Bennett Park for worship!
See you in church! Pastor John

This is not a Bible study but more of a time to discuss matters that effect our lives today. We start with a core piece of scripture, some de-votional time that speaks to our topic and then look at some pointed questions that will help us go deeper in our faith and get to know one another a bit better at each meeting. You can talk or you can just listen. You can come eve-ry week or once in a while! We start on time and end by 8:15pm.
Questions? Men, see Pastor Esposito or Pastor John. Ladies see Maria Parille or Pastor John.
Community Bible Study Evening Class Our local CBS (Community Bible Study) class will begin its new year on September 10th, 2018. We will study the gospel of Mark, followed by Job and Philippians. CBS is an international, interdenomina-tional ministry. CBS classes meet in local host churches throughout the world, and Ridgefield Baptist Church (325 Danbury Road) has graciously welcomed our local evening class to use its facility. Approxi-mately sixty men and women attend the class on Monday evenings, from 7:30 to 9:00, September through April. Anyone interested in looking into the Bible in a friendly, caring atmosphere is invited to visit or become a member of the class. Beginners, as well as more experienced Bible students, are always welcome. This year's 30- week course covers the book of Mark, Job, and Philippians. Jesus brings good news to a hurting world, a world like ours today, filled with people who have real questions, fears, and hopes. The study of Mark, Job, and Phi-lippians will reveal how we can receive true forgiveness and enjoy everlasting life in God's kingdom, by believing in who Je-sus is, and what he has said and done. Through our studies this year, may we draw strength from remembering the hope we have in Jesus and the faithfulness of God when we go through difficult times. Perhaps we will come to respond as Paul does in Philippians 4:11, "...I have learned to be content in whatever circum-stances I am." For more information about CBS go to http://RidgefieldEve.cbsclass.org<http://ridgefieldeve.cbsclass.org/> or call (203) 431-9491. If anyone has any questions about this Bible Study opportunity, please also feel free to call Peter Eckert of BUMC who has been involved with CBS for 15 years.
WE NEED NEW CHOIR ROBES! As many of you know, our current choir robes are over 20 years old, and were cus-tom fit to the choir personnel at that time - our members (and their sizes) have changed! With your help, we'd like to pur-chase new robes, which you'll see in ser-vices more often. Our fundraising goal is $6000. Here's how you can help: Donation of any amount: Your name will be included on a poster that will hang in the choir room in thanks for your generosity! Bronze Donation ($100+): Choose a hymn to be included in a Sunday service of your choice (to be planned in conjunction with the music director), your name included on thank you poster. Silver Donation ($250+ - sponsor a robe): Choose the choral introit or benedic-tion to be included in a Sunday service of your choice (to be planned in conjunction with the music director), your name included on thank you poster . Gold Donation ($500+): Choose a choral anthem to be included in a Sunday service of your choice (to be planned in conjunction with the music director), your name included on thank you poster. Platinum Donation ($1000+): Music Direc-tor for a day! Choose ALL of the music sung at a Sunday service of your choice (to be planned in conjunction with the music direc-tor), your name included on thank you post-er. Donations can be placed in the offering plate (please mark "choir robes" on the envelope) or arrangements can be made by contacting Jessica Bardelli ([email protected]).
It is that time of year again where everyone is asked to think about what your summer 2019 is going to be. If you are looking for a week where you and/or your youth will build relationships with others and God, learn about your faith while also learning about dif-ferent forms of home repairs, help others in need while gaining knowledge on their cul-ture then ASP is a trip for you.
"ASP is for volunteers of the ages 14 and up that helps to make homes warmer, safer and drier. Depending on where they place us we could be working in Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, or North Caroli-na. You'll return home stronger, wiser, and closer to God. ASP is a Christian ministry open to all people, that inspires hope and service through home repair and replace-ment in Central Appalachia. Asp is more than a building program, it's a relationship ministry where you will have the opportunity to spend time interacting with the family of the home you are assigned to serve. You will learn lessons that will enrich your faith and build character for the rest of your life."
BUMC's ASP sign up meeting will be held Sunday September 30th at 12:00 at the Bethel United Methodist church; 141 Green-wood Ave. Bethel CT. We will meet prompt-ly in the sanctuary. There are 24 slots available for the 2019 ASP trip. If you are committed to joining us please reach out to me or come to our ASP sign up meeting with a $100 deposit, or if you would like to be added to our waiting list and interested in learning more about ASP please join us as well. All those who are 14 or older are wel-come. If you are interested in learning more about ASP please email me back at [email protected].

Using entertaining vid-eo lessons and powerful small group accountabil-ity, FPU empowers you to make better decisions about money, eliminate debt, build wealth, and it will enable you to give like never before. This program will give you the tools to bring your finances under control and bring you true financial peace. It will meet here at BUMC starting on Tuesday, September 18
th and it ends November

The Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is delighted to announce the hiring of Wendy Williams as the new Church Children's Ministry Coordinator, replacing Claudia Schaefer who stepped down from the position. What does the Children's Ministry Coordinator do?... The coordinator will vision, plan, and advocate for children, particularly in the areas of bible knowledge, faith development, safety, and disci-pleship. The coordinator will work with other leaders in the congregation as well as parents to assure that policies and procedures are in place to help keep all children and the adults who care for and work with them safe. The Co-ordintor will recruit, train and encourage a team of teachers and assistants coordinating sched-uling of teachers to fill all needed classes and other events for all classes through Senior High School.
She will begin the first Sunday in September which will give her three weeks to get acquaint-ed with folks in the church. Sunday school will begin on the third Sunday in September. Wendy is the wife of Doug Williams, who serves on our Finance board. Doug is also very in-volved with Brotherhood of Christ. They have two daughters, Lauren who is in sales for Madi-son Square Garden, and Becca who will be starting her junior year at western Connecticut university. They live in New Fairfield.
